Saints still haven't agreed a settlement with Adkins, who is on 'gardening leave'

Saints should pay the full value of his contract up without quibbling. What is there to argue about? he was doing a good job when he was sacked.
doesnt work like that though, does it.....

It would be great if a club want NA's services so much they will pay his compo to get him earlier. NC could string it out for months. I hope NA gets a good job and salary

This is how most sackings are done now. Relieved of duties, placed on gardening leave and continue to be paid until the earlier of the contract ending, or finding a new job.

I'm sure there was a big thing about this regarding Tony Mowbray's dismissal from Celtic

Not surprising at all given that it is pretty standard practice.

Yep. Nothing exceptional here. Nigel will still be getting paid in the mean time, will be sure to be paid off handsomely (albeit not to the full amount of the remainder of his contract) when terms need to be agreed so that he can talk to another club.

If Leeds really want him then they will have to talk to both parties. Maybe the issue here is that they cannot afford to pay any kind of compensation to Saints for a man who is essentially still under contract.

Before the usual planks start piping up, how about for once taking your heads out of your backsides, and realising this is entirely standard.

There are dozens of examples in recent times of managers still being on gardening leave after leaving once post, before moving into another.

Alan pardew for one.

It's actually normal at every club.

He's still being paid his monthly wages, he's just not being asked to do any work.

Nobody ever pays up the whole of the remaining contract, as much for cash flow considerations as any other.

There's always a deal to be done

Also, I'm sure we won't be after any compensation for releasing him from the contract.

We'll just be looking to avoid paying some of the wages.

It's good business when you think about it.

If not Managers would sign a contract, then get sacked, get fully paid up, then get anther job, and make a killing. Sven springs to mind

And that's all this is - someone trying to infleunce the terms of whatever deal is done...

I would suspect they want him, but don't want to pay any more then they have to.

I meant the fans commenting on the article rather than the club itself :)

I getcha! They are a bit special up there to be fair.

Fair point....although I liked the line about "get someone in who can attract more than Portsmouth rejects" :)

Saint Armstrong loves a good newspaper article link!

Wasnt Sven on gardening leave until he found another job after leaving the England job?.

Sven has the best garden in football. He's always on gardening leave.

I always wondered what sort of Forum member goes around posting links to other threads as if to say 'Oy you git, we're already talking about this over here!'

Now I know. It's Trousers. Should have guessed

I thought the same. Some of those South Americans are related to Franco you know?

Errrr....you know many of those who were persecuted by the Franco regime (writers, businesspeople, other opponents etc.) actually ran off to those countries for asylum, right?

********. get a ferkin grip Cortese - you dont want him, you don't want him. Fine., But stop jerking him around.

When we make people redundant its because their job has gone, like Atkins. Any self-respecting person wishes them the best in their future career, thanks them for their efforts and moves on. Not Cortese, mean-spirited
