Saint Charlie Posted 19 February, 2013 Posted 19 February, 2013 I wrote a little blog article about Maya. Let me know what you think. He is fast becoming the signing of the season for me, has adapted to this level very well and has most of the attributes you need in a good centre back. http://wp.me/p3bfBY-1w
shurlock Posted 19 February, 2013 Posted 19 February, 2013 (edited) Much better:) Agree that there's a lot of value in places like Japan - a player like Nagatom could have been picked up for peanuts before he went to Inter. As much as Lee has failed to impress, it's worth pointing that he has not a regulat starter at international level. Edited 20 February, 2013 by shurlock
Colinjb Posted 19 February, 2013 Posted 19 February, 2013 The subject matter has slightly preempted my next blog. Nice sentiment in there.
Dig Dig Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 Bothered mate. In all seriousness, an excellent article on Yoshida. One of the buys of the season but only Saints fans are likely to recognise that.
pingwing Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 This pleases me greatly. Not great as a left back but as a CB he has come on leaps and bounds, the Norwich game and the Newcastle game are especially good examples of him playing as an intelligent footballer (though both had all 4 of our first choice back 4 playing very well too). It's good this sort of stuff is picked up upon eventually.
CityRanger Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 His performances have become more consistent after a very shaky start to his Saints career. He cost us two points against Wigan by completely missing the ball, unchallenged, defending a corner. He was good again though against Man City. I hope we see more of the City performances and less of the Wigan's!

I am sure we will see the bendfit of Forren's 'integration period' when he plays, we didnt have much choice with Maya but ordinarily you wouldnt choose the path he had. dronskisaint Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 A good read, thanks, echoes many of the conversations that I've had about him. I also agree that he should be the first central defender on the team sheet...his two-footedness is a major bonus for us. Could yet be the signing of the season?
tajjuk Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 A good read. Probably a case of 'who' for many fans when he signed but the 'committee' obviously did their homwork on him. He's been improving all season, for me he's got a whiff of Cannavaro about him, not particulary dominant in the air or physically, nor with great pace but he reads the game well, add that to good positional sense and marking, and you have the makings of a decent defender. At 24 hopefully he can keep improving.
Dan Johnson Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 Maya is the best CB we've had at this club since Michael Svensson. Our best summer signing by a country mile! Will be one of 4-5 players I'll be considering as player of the season.... Maya Lambert Punch Spiderman Cork
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 He is a brilliant reader of the game and a very fierce competitor. Prone to the occasional lapses in concentration but I think that is something that he will eliminate from his game rather than being just who he is as a player. Competes well in the air and is quick enough (though not massively quick). Would like to see him emerge as more of a leader but he is young and time is on his side. At £2m he has been great and adapted very quickly.
110_Persaint Posted 20 February, 2013 Posted 20 February, 2013 Although very impressed by Yoshida this season, after reading that article I was more impressed by Charlie's eloquence and rhetoric. You a writer mate??

davefizzy14 Posted 23 February, 2013 Posted 23 February, 2013 Agree with that, Maya has been very good
Plumstead_Saint Posted 23 February, 2013 Posted 23 February, 2013 Good article. I think the Japanese national team have a lot to thank Saints for, as Yoshida has clearly improved with every premier league game he has played.
Ohio Saint Posted 23 February, 2013 Posted 23 February, 2013 Good article. I charge $10 for a quick comment like that. For $30 I can fit in words like boobs and ticklestick.
