Real Madrid make first move for Tottenham's £50m Bale

Real Madrid have asked Tottenham Hotspur to inform them if Gareth Bale becomes available for transfer, as the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez considers a £50 million summer bid for arguably the Premier League’s best player.

My question: do we have a sell on clause? Let's hope so!

Just for the record, Forecast's record on loan to Gillingham this season is :

1 match in the JPT, 1 match in the FA Cup, and 20 minutes as sub keeper when the real goalie got sent off.

On the bright side, his days of pretending to be a goalkeeper will surely be over within a few months. He's had a hell of a run.

Yep. and that tw*t considers himself an astute businessman...

I'm one of Lowe's biggest critics but to use the Bale thing as a stick to beat him with is retarded.

The position we were in we need cash in the bank, not a the chance of maybe getting some more 5-10 years don the line. You don't need to be Brain of Britain to work that one out.

Suppose ones opinion on this is driven by whether you feel he was already showing strong signs that he was going all the way to the top. For me he was, therefore we gave him away.

And whichever way you cut it, Forecast being a part of the deal was utter incompetence. Did anyone ever bother watching him first ? Seems to me like Lowe thought that bringing a warm body in the opposite direction would somehow mask the magnitude of the give-away. I am just wondering how the WHL heirarchy managed to avoid laughing during the negotations.

Anything over £5m for a second tier left back was serious money and we still did pretty well out of the deal given our precarious postion and the pittance he could have gone for if our financial state was more widely known, and as for "strong signs of going all the way to the top", tell that to the Spurs fans after his first 20 matches for them all ended without a win.

Forecast was obviously an attempt at slashing the wage bill along with playing the kids, and he was bought with the lower leagues in mind, seeing that at some point he was good enough to get signed by Spurs. That he turned out to be even worse than League Anything was actually a fairly unexpected outcome.

Quite possibly the most deluded and incompetent man in sport but after his comments from his last destructive stint, I have ascertained he was merely not for real. Trying to wind up the fans with his comments (i.e. he thought he did well for us! WTF?!) and he should never be engaged or taken seriously again. Wind up merchant who was the most destructive chairman in our chequered history. Thank f**k for admin. and finally ridding ourselves of the parasitic reigns of the self-serving chancers! Write off the Bale debt, yeahh.....nice one! Even at the time, no matter how desperate, it was a bad idea. With one foul signature, that self-appointed "power broker" wrote off a good few million from SFC coffers. Nice one Einstein!

was ir lowe that organised rthe use of the bristol satelite to the academy that allowed us to get bale. As i remember (and i could easily be wrong) lowe managed to organise this due to us having alot of water in our catchment area and therefore we could widen our search area to compensate. If so thats a good bit of business, doesnt make up for other failings but maybe bale is a bonus we can only argue about becaue of lowe?

The biggest load of Lowe apologia we've seen on here in a quite a while. As if the opinion of a bunch of meat-headed Norf London yobbos counts for anything..

I see Woodward has come out of the woodwork saying he recognised "greatness" in Bale (and Walcott) at an early age. Whilst he credits others with their development (very generous) I doubt he's so keen to associate himself with others at Southampton during his time with us.....Simon Clifford for instance.
