Fantastic news. Both massively important players to our successful under-18 side, especially Ryan Seager who seems to score for fun. Will look forward to seeing them strut their stuff in the Premier League next year should they get the chance.

Dominic is Captain of Saints under 18's, plays midfield. Parents still live in Bridport I believe but played his football for one of the Weymouth Youth teams before joining Saints. He has given a good interview on Saints Player last Friday in the post Man U build up for the under 18's. Seems a bright and intelligent young man.

Anyone know about these players to give a brief description of where they play/playing style? I'm clueless.

Seager and Gape both play for the under-18s, although have both made the step up to the under-21s on a couple of occasions.

Seager is an out-and-out striker, the top scorer for the under-18s, and a real prospect for the future.

Gape is a midfielder, sometimes plays on the right and sometimes in the centre. Good all-round player, passer and tackler, a Cork-style figure if you will. Also a great player, already featured on the first team sub bench this season.

Has Matt Targett (or Taggart) signed as yet ? another rated youngster, who I read was a left sided player,( a month younger than Shaw but described as his "successor" ?)

Hopefully soon. An amazing LB who is already playing regularly for the under-21s because he's too good for the 18s. Will be our second choice soon enough, although might move on if Shaw stays.

I wonder if it's possible for Shaw to step up to LM later ala Bale, allowing Targett to move in at LB, if he is indeed able to make the step up.

But then where would Lallana go? Shaw isn't showing anywhere near the same attacking prowess as Bale did, although it is only early days I admit. I hope he stays in defence, because I think he can develop into a fantastic full back who can tackle, pass, and intercept; he just needs to work on his positioning and awareness (I'm thinking corners here).

Yeah I tend to agree, when you consider Bale was running games for us from LB, albeit in the Championship, and was a huge creative outlet.

Although I don't feel we've seen the full extent of Shaw's attacking abilities yet.

You'll notice he started very reserved and kept it simple in his starting games and wasn't making runs like Chelsea away at the early stages.

He has made a few good runs as of late, and obviously full-backs want to get involved in the game, but I really value the RB and LB of old, who don't get forward and who actually work as 3rd and 4th defenders. Shaw will be great, whatever he decides he wants to do.

Isn't Targett meant to be the more attack minded of the two ? In which case he might be the LM option.

As for where will Lallana go ? On the right perhaps.

I've not seen much of him to say to be honest, perhaps worth checking out a future U21 game to see what he's about.

Looking forward to seeing some of these youngster breaking into the team like Shaw did though, I don't think many thought we'd be seeing a 17 year old establish himself as our number one LB at the start of the season. Although you would think the club were confident in his ability by our lack of strengthening in that position.

I see Seager scored his first goal for the U21s yesterday - good to see him being fast tracked through the ranks. The next Saints "goal machine"...?

Btw, does anyone know how much input Pochettino is having in the U18s and U21s in terms of who gets selected for "fast tracking" or has he left that side of things alone thus far?

I think he's had quite a big say in terms of selection. I remember reading about how at Espanyol he would encourage the youngsters to play a year ahead and it seems with the likes of Gape, Reed, Seager etc that they have been pushed up to the U21's.

Yep that's right, MP was very involve, although that maybe partly down to having to promote them after losing so many players from the first team with the club having to sell.

With our players, they'll only move up when ready for the challenge, I think the management team are acutely aware that players develop at different speeds and they will be given time and the right environment to help reach their potential.

I was speaking to a chap by the name of Mr. Dodd and he told me that Seager is **** hot and, although there are many, he is the one to watch.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him on the senior squad bench before the end of the season when we're mathematically safe...

Next big thing?!

Wouldn't be surprised if Pochettino 'fast tracked' him through the squads this season. Seems to be a player who 'scores for fun' at every level he's played at thus far...
