CFSFC Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Gets said a lot that ex players aren't looked after by the club? The above 3 are surely a counter argument to that. Could it be Benali and Tiss have the ego problem?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Paul Williams..... Channon and Moran have also been guests of the club. Moran even had his charity bike ride publicised by the club at short notice and they let him do a collection at the ground!
MarkSFC Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Exactly...maybe the problem is that certain Ex-players/managers/employees "expect" certain treatment like free tickets/hospitality, possibly because that's what they were given by previous regime(s) who nearly bankrupted the club?!! It's all PR. The club was naive in simply stopping the previous perks in one swoop but at least it made matters transparent. No possibility of 'why can't I have that, he does...!' or words to that effect. Those that keep contributing to the coaching and infrastructure of the club do seem to be well catered for. Colinjb Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Yeah, Benali has always been famed for his massive ego problem. Benali and Le Tissier have obviously crossed swords with the chairman from what seems to be a mixture of personality clash and and a property dispute. Those two examples seem to be the most severe though. The examples mentioned in the title show that players from the past can find a place if they operate within the way the club is now run. Could it be Benali and Tiss have the ego problem? Are you completely stupid? Everyone knows with benali it's about properly and that's why Matty got involved. Nothing to do with ego. Things seem to be calming down a bit so why you have to bring it up again us beyond me but do some research before talking a load of tosh.
Colinjb Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 (edited) Right, so how exactly does Benali have an ego problem? I didn't say that. I do not believe he does. As I said before I believe it's a personality clash/ego dispute that could happen between anyone. People from vastly different backgrounds, fundamentally good people can disagree for perfectly valid and understandable reasons when everything is taken into account. The Le Tissier/Benali/Cortese situation is I believe an example of this. Disputes happen in all walks of life and as all three of these individuals concerned have done a power of good for the club, i'm willing to give all of them the benefit of the doubt while wishing their dispute would get resolved. ottery st mary Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Yeah, Benali has always been famed for his massive ego problem. I have met Benali many times and have nothing but praise and admiration for a top man........I would go as far as to say one of the nicest men I have met.. I have only met MLT 4 or 5 times....usually at charity events or footer games for good causes...Again like Benali...a really good guy.. Both men are, as we all know... Saints through and through...Legends in many different ways. Whatever their respective dispute is with NC.......It is their biz and in my view should remain as such...BUT NA ..MLT and Franny........FFS sort this shiiiite out for Saints.....OR I will knock your heads together:rolleyes: I hope it gets sorted and all the peeps can move on and in some way can be resolved so that they can back together within the Saints family. RobM Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 I think people are trying to find something that isn't really there. Benali and NC are in a legal dispute, which is being handled in the right way. I've not seen Benali on Twitter calling NC out, in the press on a regular basis calling him a not very nice man, nothing like this. He has commented, but he has also kept his head down. MLT has made it very clear that he has never asked for handouts and buys his own season ticket, even though he can't often attend. He does have an ego though (he's a man) and likes to voice his opinion. He is also a clever self-publicist and knows how to keep his name in conversation. It also seems clear that his encounters with NC haven't been favourable to him - understandable when competing for a massive business deal and trying to gain an advantage, which is how this started. But to suggest he expects certain treatment from the club and this is his problem is misguided at best.

This Charming Man Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Met Benali on holiday and he spent all afternoon chatting to us by the pool, even moved all his family over by us so he could keep on chatting. Really nice, down to earth bloke.
Saintandy666 Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 I think the difference is the 'free ride' aspect... All the people you mention are still contributing to the club in some work based way.
CB Fry Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 I think the difference is the 'free ride' aspect... All the people you mention are still contributing to the club in some work based way. And also getting paid by the club. So they are not "ex-players" as such, but current employees. Colinjb Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Who wants a free ride? Pointless post. The question should surely be, 'who might try to blag one?' No chance now. No grey area. No space for abuse.
Saintandy666 Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 Who wants a free ride? Pointless post. I wasn't really trying to say anyone was necessarily asking for a 'free ride'. I was trying to imply that the people which the OP stated are currently working for the club. And that is fine, probably a good idea, as they obviously worked for the club in the past so maybe have an idea of structures and maybe a sense of drive and loyalty in relation to the club. Frank's cousin Posted 17 February, 2013 Share Posted 17 February, 2013 ... Matty, decent bloke, legend ...Franny, decent bloke, legend (to a lesser degree ;-) Dispute with NC over Property - PRIVATE business ...Problem = The moment the dispute is brought up in public and comments made about the chairman and club it becomes an issue for the club and NC. Because the media latch on and make it a bigger issue and it reflects badly on the club and its business - sorry but you cant keep saying you love the club, when you know what you are saying (whether truth, fiction, ego driven or justified is irrelevent) has a detrimental effect in any way, be it spliting the fan base, painting the club in a bad light etc. Especially when its over a PRIVATE dispute.
