My wife has asked if my son Johnny (aged 4) can do a Chelsea kids camp at Easter. I have expressed dissatisfaction with this (over my dead body). Do Saints not do one in the Winchester area I can send him to? I am sure they used to.

I think you'll find it's very spuriously run by 'Chelsea', the only link being Chelsea divvy out the coaches kits.

The usual deal being if one of their recommendations makes so many first team appearances, umpteen years later, then they get so much money.

It's just a way of identifying the talent early.

Apparently they are well run but I don't want to dilute his enthusiasm for Saints. You think that it would be OK?

We have the same thing here near aldershot. We have Chelsea and aldershot town vying to train the kids. We've going to try the Aldershot one as its closer and cheaper. I'm hoping it will ignite my nippers passion to have a kickabout cus he has already has a decent left foot on him at 5 years old.

Thanks I will look into this

Just remind your good wife how many young kids have made it to the Chelski 1st team in the last 15 years or so (you could possibly have John Terry) and then how many Saints kids have made it, Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain, Lallana, etc etc the list is endless.

Not the case, all the staff are Chelsea coaches.

Get him booked on, he'll love t! Our days consist of developing activities but concentrated on fun techniques. You'll find a lot of us are also Saints fans!

The Chelsea scouts at nippers games at Southampton Tyro level crack me up. Whenever watching my nephews play it seems every other game there is a Chelsea bod in full Chelsea tracksuit watching. The Saints scouts are far more discreet, I assume this is because now we fall in the 60 mile radius thing from Cobham, Chelsea have to make a show of being able to tap up Southampton youngsters so make their scouts wear all the gear?

Similar up here except it's the Stoke scouts that rock up in full clayhead regalia. The Wolves, West Brom etc are much more low key but they league also falls under Utd in the north to Villa in the south. The Villa scout is an ex-manager.

My nippers team has had kids turn down opportunities at Stoke & Vale (my lad) in recent months and his championship rivals lose players to Stoke (1) & Wolves (2).

I was at Marchwood watching Saints U18 v Millwall U18 once and a bloke there didn't even try to hide the fact he was an agent. On the phone the whole time going 'yeah we'll have him and him, I've got his parents here so we can chat.'

Then there's the stories about Liverpool scouts being escorted away by security when they were at the gates of the training ground trying to get Bale.

'Chelsea coaches' and coaches working for Chelsea (in the community) are completely different.

I know a couple who report to Cobham who regularly visit Tyro games in their Chelsea kit because they would be pulled as voyeurs otherwise when challenged.

Clearly stating the obvious, you would not have a lead academy coach working on a soccer school in another county.

All the staff report to Cobham, a number of the coaches are involved with the academy, disability and girls set up. As for viewing games, majority of the coaches are involved with grassroots teams and clubs via Chelsea. Granted, the scouts are not discreet.

I don't think any Saints fans should attend anything like this run by another club in our area. There's enough glory hunting fake football fans floating around and we don't need Chelsea trying to tap up more of a fan base down here.

No they wouldn't don't be so ridiculous, that is the sort of sensationalist rubish that makes people afriad to watch youth football!

They do run development centres in which kids are invited to attend.mbasically advanced coaching to the clubs philosophy. Allowing the club to build a database of players. Head scouts come and watch fixtures if no player is directly recommended.

There must be a vast difference between paying to attend a young players training camp and being selected by a pro-club to

attend their regular training sessions for young players.

There is but the scouts look everywhere.

Friend of ours 7yo nipper was picked up by Wolves & Stoke whilst having a kick about as his brother played a match. He trained with both for a while, now just with Wolves who pay for his taxi to & from the academy 3 times a week (due to the families situation he travels with his granddad) but that hasn't stopped Villa from trying to poach him.

Sadly true Alex2001, was discussed when I did the FA CRB stuff when doing my badges. Individuals not identified as parents, especially making notes, with a camera etc, may be challenged.

Yeah but do you run a database for an computer spreadsheet football game? Cause everyone here knows that the best way to learn anything about football. It's definitely not getting off your fat mess of an arse, playing the game, playing for/running a club and doing your coaching badges.

Nope Championship manager means you know all.

I'd say he's trolling every other forum but the care in the community case actually believes what he writes so i'm not sure that's actually trolling

I can tell you all this much. The days of the School P.E teacher taking Football training are numbered! They will all be replaced by the "Coaches in the Community". One of the "Community" Chelsea Coaches was an Academy trainee with Jack Cork. As for getting discovered, it is possible but you need to be playing for the right grass roots club. A lot are being signed at the Gothia Cup Tournament in Sweden. There is no guarentee even if you make it to the Academy. Non-League is full of ex Academy playing probably for a fiver a game! Callum McNish for example! Jamie White, top scorer at Salisbury!
