Dig Dig Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Bucks Saint has been mugged right off on this thread. Lee was a marketing commodity but even the Japanese didn't really care about Lee in the same way they do about Yoshida but at least he actually plays as is a very good player. This Charming Man Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I liked what I saw of him in the Championship, love how everyone says he's not Premier League quality when they've not seen him play in it. I think his injury cost him dearly, but he is perhaps one of a number of deadwood players we should have shifted last year. Might have made it easier to make more signings in the two transfer windows, especially with limited registrations. Doubt he'll play for us again, the loan will probably become or lead to a permanent deal in the future. Should that be the case, I thank him for his contribution and wish him well. I haven't seen Forecast play in the Premiership but I know he's not Premiership quality.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Don't be too harsh. He was only repeating what 5Live said what day? time? who said it? tell me, tell me, tell me!!!!!! p.s where's MLG?
Professor Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 Now that Lee has gone on loan to FC Tokyo, does this mean that Mayuka may get a chance off the bench? He may be our only striker cover now unless the likes of Hoskins or Seidi are considered ready. If there isn't cover from a young reserve, isn't three strikers a bit thin with quite a few games still to go and not yet out of the relegation mix? The9 Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I think he's served his purpose, now that we have a Japanese player who's actually in the team, the market for Rising Sun foam hands and replica shirt sales has been established by someone else. No idea if he's good enough for the Prem though, he's rarely played and doesn't have the luxury of having a team built around covering his deficiencies. Lee hasn't got on the pitch off the bench to my recollection, Mayuka already has. I'm not sure why it would make any difference, if Lambert goes down we'll have to completely rework our attacking play anyway as we don't have anyone else like him. Saint Charlie Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I enjoy the arguments that because he hasn't played in the Prem we don't know if he would be good enough. I would argue that if you haven't played a single minute in the Prem and the team is 25 odd games into the season then thats a decent indication. So many fans forget that the Manager sees players in training all the time...
reader1234 Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I think he has a lot more to offer than what we have been able to see of him. Obviously his injury came at a bad time. He got a great goal against Derby. Perhaps a bit light weight for the Premier. He has suffered like a lot of other squad players in that he doesn't get any games. VectisSaint Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 oops Its all about opinions. Never claimed to be ITK and was not aware that Japan could still take loans outside of the European xfer window. Interestingly on the SFC report it is quite clear in the last sentence that Saints expect him back in the summer before pre-season. I don't necessarily believe that, but it is very unusual for that sort of statement to be made when a player goes on a long term loan - I don't think (maybe wrong) for instance that there were similar statements when Billy Sharp went on loand or Deano etc. It sounds to me like this is an opportunity, when we only have 12 games left for Chung to play regularly, hpefully get his match fitness back, also alow him opportunity to get back in Japan frame and then for his future to be assessed based on a full pre-season. I am not so sure as some on here that we have seen the last of Chung in a Saints shirt. For those that have written him off, you may have to eat your words, then again maybe you won't, time will tell.

If our experts on here had their way we'd have a car crash team out each week which would include Lee on the left wing and Richardson as defensive front sweeper. IMO Richardson could do a decent job as a front sweeper. Unlike Schneiderlin (who only passes sideways) he can tackle. Lee at left wing is just ridiculous though. This Charming Man Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I see your point but I don't think a Forecast-Lee comparison is particularly useful or fair for a variety of reasons. I'm not comparing the two at all. I was just merely highlighting that you don't need to have seen someone play in the Premiership to decide if they're good enough or not. IMO, he's not good enough for this league and a mid-table NPC striker was probably his level.

Turkish Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 People mention his great goal against Derby. But Jordan Robertson and Wayne Thomas were also capable of scoring fantastic goals. i find it really strange the hype surrounding Lee. a lot on here were convinced he was some sort of footballing god who was going to set the Premier league alight based on a couple of decent games against midtable championship sides. I saw nothing then or since to convince me he is any better than championship level and before vectis says I've never liked him because he's Japanese i think Maya has been an outstanding signing. Did I say that........looking back I said ..I was very impressed with him at the start....(I don't think I was alone with that assessment) but of course, his very well-taken goal helped with that impression .. also for the record..every Championship game was not available on stream to me, I didn't say that either btw...but as Saints were at the top for much of the season, they did feature now and then. If he's still in the longer term planning, (hopefully) he can get some match practice in Japan and regain some form by the summer. For his sake it would be sad to think he'd " lost " 12 months of his career. Edited 14 February, 2013 by david in sweden
JPTCount Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 good luck to him, hopefully he can get a good string of games together and compete in pre season training. from what we saw last year it's a real shame he wasn't fit at the start of the season. captain sensible Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I liked him....he was like sh1t off a stick when presented with a through ball, but he just isn't physical enough for the prem to be a constant feature. He'd win a few free-kicks though and could get a few Centre Halves sent off! Ultimately too light and that's his undoing!

FloatingbridgeSaint Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 I reckon he will make a return for us. This is a good move for all really. Back in Japan he will get a fair bit of game time to bring him back to fitness in what I assume is a far less challenging league then say the championship if we had loaned him out over here - possibly less chance of injury? Also the OS mentioned that "Chung is scheduled to return to Southampton ahead of pre-season in the summer" which sounds like a statement of intent. Could be wrong but I don't recall seeing the same statement for others who have gone on loan like Billy Sharp.
