Smirking_Saint Posted 13 February, 2013 Share Posted 13 February, 2013 If you have a morning it is generally a very easy thing to do yourself, if you have a decent quality laminate and jig saw. Its cutting around rad pipes etcthats a pain in the ass

Dr Who? Posted 13 February, 2013 Share Posted 13 February, 2013 I do not mind doing small areas, but thinking of getting someone in for the lounge. Did the dining room but half the size and it was pretty square.
Suomi Saint Posted 14 February, 2013 Share Posted 14 February, 2013 The problem with laminate flooring is that the base needs to be level - especially if the floor is concrete. You have to use a self levelling compound. If the floor is not level then you will be forever peeved when certain boards 'creak' under weight. So, if you are going to use a tradesman, then ask him what he proposes to do to make the floor level. A timber floor is much easier and less of a problem. Cutting and fitting the boards is easy, but make sure you use a good underlay/softener specifically made for the purpose.

tony13579 Posted 15 February, 2013 Share Posted 15 February, 2013 Can I fit a laminate floor over 25mm polystyrene insulation? Or should I fit 18mm chip board over the insulation first?
kipstryker Posted 16 February, 2013 Share Posted 16 February, 2013 Yes, board it out. Unwise to fit over insulation. I own a flooring business. Normally supply and fit, but I can put anyone in touch with one of my fitters who are always looking for a bit of weekend work or to fill a slow week.
