pap Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Been looking at Frank Lampard's recent performances. Can't help thinking that if we had someone with a decent long shot, could add 10 points per season.

Pilchards Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Hate to say this but we need a striker who is bloody deadly in and around the 18 yard box & can out sprint any defender. If he is going to cost 20 million then so be it. Just need covering LB & RB's with any loose change. IMHO we don't need that attacking midfielder he may of tried to buy for 15m as Davis, Gaston, JayRod & Lallana could fill it.

ToreSF Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 As a mongboard, do we think we need more posters like saintsboyinleeds and miltonroader? No, we got good cover in those positions. We need more posters like Deppo.
Turkish Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 No, we got good cover in those positions. We need more posters like Deppo. Deppo wouldn't last 5 minutes in the current climate where infraction points are given out for even the most minor offences. The mods have made posting a non-banter sport. tajjuk Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Depends first on staying up. I still reckon we will try for a top class CB, possibly in for Astori again or someone of similar level. A versatlile player that could fill in full back and defensive mid would be really good. And some extra class in the wide positions with pace. Essentially a Coutinho like signing. That's also presuming we sign Boruc and Puncheon to contracts. (also reckon we need to start the search for a Lambert replacement in case Jay Rod isn't it)

saint_ed Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Lens is my favoured target for the summer. Think we will also sign a long term replacement for Jos with him moving on as well as full back cover on the basis I can also see Fox and Richardson leaving us. NickG Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Hard to be objective at the moment, we just stuffed league champions without; Lallana Ramirez Fonte Shaw Forren 5 names that several said would be in our strongest 11. Maybe squad isn't that week. How many of our starting 11 are top 6 quality? Think this will be transfer aim.
adrian lord Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Would it be fair to say we are focusing on him to improve the team? He would certainly get a lot of exposure to first team football - I hope the shutter hasn't been closed on that deal. We need better depth of field, certainly. Yes, you said how well we were doing with our league one squad and we cant expect anymore than we were getting, clearly we can and you were wrong. LOL @ your comment about my self esteem then immediately you then pat yourself on the back because your predicitons on here are apparently often proven right. NickG Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Lol, if I do have to correct you again, to stop your continual trolling... The thread was about comparative spending ie we spent a lot in summer. Point I made simply, which most would be able to follow, was we were playing in league 1 very recently. It is common sense that a squad based from league 1 would need more spending to bring them to prem level. Why do you feel need for childish bickering on most threads? And you were wrong about that as well as we've spent £20m on players since promotion from L1 who arguably haven't improved and cant get into the first XI, as well as 5 players being with us in L1 and one player coming through the youth team. So actually since promotion from L1 we've only signed 5 players who have improved the current first XI for a combinded fee of £17m, £12m of this on one player. We have spent £3m more on players who cant get in the team when everyone is fit! Our league one squad seems to be doing just fine doesn't it. captainchris Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Both full backs but most urgently a left back as our reserve is not good enough for this team by a long way. Will probably go for a right back too and possibly wide right player. Not that Punch isn't good enough it's that we have no real competition for his place unless there is a youngster coming through that will make it or you count Guly who is a bit hot and cold with tendency for the cooler of the two.... Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 I think he'll want more pace in the final third and maybe someone who will dribble past people. Quite clear that players are encouraged to express themselves a bit more in the final third and a little unpredictability won't go a miss. But a good unpredictability, not a Papa Waigo type of unpredictability. Other than that I don't think he will highlight any massive holes, I think he trusts his system to get a lot out of the players and their response so far has been great. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 We won't strengthen at all. All our transfer windows are a disaster and a monumental cock up. All players we sign are a shambles and panic buy, we focus too much on one player and waste our money on players not good enough. HTH.
110_Persaint Posted 12 February, 2013 Share Posted 12 February, 2013 Definitely a fast, pacy winger who can get in behind defences , take on fullbacks, and get to the byline from time to time. One of those who could play either left or right (switch with Puncheon) and give us that injection of pace that is sorely lacking. IMO only Clyne from our current first team (Mayuka excluded) has any sort of real pace. I like the Lens idea - perfect signing and won't break the bank. Rest of the squad I think is fine as long we keep bringing up quality lads from the academy. Wouldn't say no to a top-quality signing in any position though... Wiggles31 Posted 13 February, 2013 Share Posted 13 February, 2013 As above ? For me a LB + RB to cover when Shaw / clyne get injured, a winger to replace punch (if he doesn't sign) and a decent striker. This. Would love another top class forward and winger then decent cover for the FBs.

No GK needed. RB is covered. There's a lad slightly younger than Clyne supposedly as good due to break through, so no LB needed. A top CB to enhance defence might be good. A wide player of quality is required - preferably able to play on both sides. A fast striker with fierce accurate shot would ideal - a Michu type. So possibly 3 at most. SaintBobby Posted 13 February, 2013 Share Posted 13 February, 2013 Big decision on goalkeeper. If not Boruc, we spend heavily here. (on wages, if not on transfer) A back-up player who is quite good, but not in the starting XI, who can play either right back or left back (does such a player exist for say £2m-£3m?) A top winger to replace Puncheon. Maybe a massive outlay for a totally awesome centreback (I'm not sure we can obviously better the 4 we have for less than £4m-£5m) Not sure what we do if we lose Lambert to injury. If J-Rod not considered to be a satisfactory replacement, do we need to sign another very promising youngster for a few million?

MarkSFC Posted 13 February, 2013 Share Posted 13 February, 2013 As great as Cork and particularly Morgan are performing we should get a CM (seems like we tried in Jan). I think we also will go for a right winger, experienced left back, and a centre back better than we have. Jos will move on I suspect. Depending on the opinion of MP about Gazza we might get a GK too. I think Boruc is proving his quality, its all about consistency.
