SaintBobby Posted 11 February, 2013 Share Posted 11 February, 2013 Was put to me by a (non-Saints supporting friend) that Lambert and Lallana are, in his view, the best players on the planet not to have won a cap. He added that he thought it wouldn't be long before the same applied to Shaw and Clyne. Flattering stuff - which I obviously didn't seek to contradict! - but is it remotely true? (And could Schneiderlin and Cork be close to being considered too?)

Saint Charlie Posted 11 February, 2013 Share Posted 11 February, 2013 Yes and no. Plenty of uninspiring players WITH caps. But who are the best player WITHOUT caps. The suggestion isn't that Lallana is better than MLT - just that MLT isn't even considered as he was a full international.

SaintBobby Posted 11 February, 2013 Author Share Posted 11 February, 2013 Ok. Answer is still no With Michu and Arteta already mentioned, I'm inclined to concur. Although I do think we probably have a good sprinkling of the best English players without caps.
a1ex2001 Posted 11 February, 2013 Share Posted 11 February, 2013 Lallana and Lambert would get a mention if you wer talking about English players without a cap and I'm sure both would make the starting lineup if you were to draw up a team of current English players who are uncapped. World wide I doubt they are the best people have already pointed out Arteta and Michu and I'm sure if you look at the Spanish league you will find further gems. Smirking_Saint Posted 11 February, 2013 Share Posted 11 February, 2013 Watching Carroll yesterday and knowing he's been to a World Cup, and most likely ahead of Lambert in the England set up is a bit baffling. Not really, right now I agree but before he went to Liverpool he was very much a player in form and you g at that. The fee paid by Liverpool made him a poor player as he will always be judged on that. He was poor yesterday yes, bug he is just back from injury and playing in a **** poor WHY team. Welbeck, Sturridge and Rooney are all ahead of Lambert, Carroll is younger. Right now Lambert is in top form and arguably should have been in the side with the withdrawals vs Brazil but wasnt, he isnt the future. If lallana keeps it up and stays free from injury he should be there.

(And could Schneiderlin and Cork be close to being considered too?) Schneiderlin should be much nearer a cap than either Lambert or Lallana on current form, he's been holding us together. Shaw has the little matter of Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines and then (maybe) Ryan Bertrand to contend with. Clyne is decent but not more than an England squad fringe player at best at the moment. Cork isn't even close, and I don't think he's near a call up though he does have the U-21 experience Bertrand has which Lallana is missing. Lambert is worth considering for England when you all think Le Fondre, who has a much better Prem scoring rate and is a lot younger and more likely to improve, is worth a game. I don't think England are likely to rebuild the entire team around Lambert to play to his strengths as Saints have. Michu is far and away the best uncapped player currently playing in the Premier League. Edited 8 March, 2013 by The9

Saint Mikey Posted 8 March, 2013 Share Posted 8 March, 2013 As much as I don't like the **** that is Kevin Nolan - he's got a fair greater claim to this, than either of Adam or Rickie. There must be a plethora of other players that have played in the Prem too, not even thinking about before that. Marcus Stewart was the 2nd Top Goalscorer in the Prem one year (top English goalscorer) and never got an England cap...

One decent season at Bolton (when they got to the champions league) and that was that. Been a run of the mill midfielder since, no better than Corky. Turkish Posted 8 March, 2013 Share Posted 8 March, 2013 Yes we do! We already knew that when in L1 we were better than England and could beat them easily and we've improved since then so now Saints would probably win the world cup at a canter these days. rshephard3 Posted 8 March, 2013 Share Posted 8 March, 2013 Schneiderlin has clearly been as good at his job as Michu this season. Both outstanding players yet to be capped by their countries.
Saint Mikey Posted 9 March, 2013 Share Posted 9 March, 2013 Are you taking the **** Nolan is ****ing dreadful!!!!! Is now I agree, but he was decent. When Lallana consistently scores more than 10 goals a season from midfield, in the Prem then you can come back and we can have a debate about it... stu0x Posted 9 March, 2013 Share Posted 9 March, 2013 The correct answer is Raphael Varane. Centre back at Real Madrid. Tipped by Zidane to be the best defender in the world within 5 years. Two Clasicos. Two wins. Two goals. No fouls.
