jawillwill Posted 10 February, 2013 Posted 10 February, 2013 According to Dion Dublin on MotD2. Discuss * *(be careful what you say though or St Chatlet might infract you)
Saint Fan CaM Posted 10 February, 2013 Posted 10 February, 2013 Yep - no talk of the manner in which we totally dominated them. Rubbish.
Colinjb Posted 10 February, 2013 Posted 10 February, 2013 Bit of twisted logic in saying that..... Dissagree.
skintsaint Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Makes no sense... Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Frank's cousin Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Very clear that both those guys had not seen us play much at all - Very clear we have been trying to play as we did against City for a while, and we are finally getting the results we deserved.... whereas they hey its was a 'raise their game' job because of who we were playing...
trousers Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Dublin's argument was that players tend to raise their game against the bigger sides (in a "nothing to lose" sense) ergo players go into a game like Man City with less pressure than against the likes of Wigan. There's some logic there...
Barry the Badger Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 I get the point he was trying to make, it's just that on this occasion he was completely wrong, at least I hope so.
alpine_saint Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 As always following a splendid win and performance, for me the ultimate test as to what direction we are going in is how we respond to events in the next game. Its against Newcastle, but there is a 2 week break. We dont do breaks, we seem to lose our edge or start believing the hype. We are, imo, better than Toon and in better form. Do we sit back, assuming a win/draw and let them come at us and make mistakes, or do we push on with our game and cut their throats ?

Apparently Pochettinos Style will include some Sabre sharpening classes over the next couple of weeks.

Dr Who? Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 First half we will contain, second half press like mo foes! If you are going, the first half you will think is pretty ordinary but second half amazing!
Dr Who? Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 At home are tactics are press from the off, and you notice this come 65/70 when we cannot do it any longer!
Wes Tender Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 He's headed too many balls in his career and it's affecting his thought processes. What he really meant to say was that a point against City would be more impressive than three against Wigan. He was attempting to illustrate therefore what a mighty achievement it was getting three against the English champions.
Graffito Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Yeah we won because it was our cup final. Nothing to do with the pressing game and team of "Intelligent players with a great capacity to assimilate ideas and adapt," (to the system). It's true that players don't have to get up for the big games, like the 6 pointer at Wigan for instance. Neither of those pundits last night is much good. As someone said already it was obvious they hadn't watched us much. It was equally obvious they hadn't understood much from what they've seen.
Elias Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Colin Murray seemed to get it, singling out Morgan. Don't know why Jason Roberts is on there, he's a current player. At least he offers better analysis than Dion Dublin though.

Very important that the team manage to reset themselves 'til the next game.

Colin Murray seemed to be having a love in with Saints in general last night, thinking Puncheon's goal at Chelsea should have been goal of the month and also full of praise for Steve Davis

pressingon Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Dion Dublin's in depth analasyst on SRL was that "he is a handfull" thank god someone has explained to me why he's in the team. Also the bigest change with the new manager is that he has made us more consistent.

Also the bigest change with the new manager is that he has made us more consistent. Shocking. The beeb need to get rid of these old timers and get someone of the Gary Neville mould who actually understands the game and enjoys analysis. I'd expect more from Dion actually cos he's an intelligent bloke but it's like all he's done is watch the highlights. Maybe they should pick one game to analyse properly each week.
DT Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Personally I was sickened by all the 'Man City' commit hari kari stuff in the papers, rather than the simple fact that WE PLAYED BETTER THAN THEM. Even that bloke Simon Peach tweeted as much. And he's a Saints fan. So 'big-club-centric'.
pingwing Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2266133/Colin-Murray-axed-Match-Day-2-presenter-Mark-Chapman-replacement.html Murray to be replaced. Mostly because he talks about us in a positive light and is more interesting in the good football we lay instead of how bad the big teams "are performing". Plus he's northern Irish and there are only 4-5 plays from his national team to get excited about
