Richardson or fox. Not many teams in prem that are that strong and mayuka I feel will come good.

Not sure why you'd have both Fonte and Forren on the bench though. Chaplow/Guly/JWP on the bench for me.

Clyne yoshida Forren shaw

Cork Morgan

Jrod. Ramirez Lallana

Subs:

Davis, Richardson, Fonte, Jwp, Davis, Puncheon, mayuka

too many changes. Newcastle's strong point is their midfield, Ramirez,Lallana and JRod have very few defensive abilities, Cork and Morgan would be swamped. I'd just put Shaw in for Fox and leave the rest of the side as it was against Citeh.

Yep, I'd go with something similar (+1 on bench to make 7). That's a premier league quality bench....first time this season we can say that probably

The fact that at least four of those six (one short of seven) are by 90% of fans' estimations in our strongest starting XI when fit sort of takes away from your point.

i think we're due a rubbish defeat - there's been too much said about our pressing game and entertaining football, we also usually crash back to earth if we beat a top side

Usually?

It's the first top side we've beaten this season.

Decent squad - imagine a few of the better players might be on the bench.

Can't really see anyone missing apart from their cup tied players and Ben Arfa who might be back vs us.

Also its "French Day" on Sunday apparantly:

Richardson as front sweeper to defend across the whole width of the pitch and protect the back four.

Philippine cable tv has even stopped ESPN which had some games on cant even find a feed for this weeks Champions league down here.

I spent three weeks in Manila visiting my daughter over Christmas and was surprised how poor the TV coverage was - they seem to be obsessed with basketball which is rather odd considering that Filipinos are not exactly tall.

I missed the "front sweeper" meme, but it seems a bit mean spirited given that the traditional sweeper/libero was just as likely to operate in front of the defensive line as behind it. A sweeper who only plays behind the back line is specifically a catenaccio.

If you're taking the rise because the chosen player is probably not the best for that role (Richardson FFS?!), or that it's basically just deploying a defensive midfielder and the fact we already have two of those has not been noticed by the OP, then fair enough.

Basketball your right an obsession it is the national sport after hakensac keep the bean bag in the air which nobody plays. but as has been mentioned before there are some football pitch's popping up and teams forming so it might start to get better coverage down here.

How embarrassing. Turkish will not be impressed with this. Where is the Stone Island FFS?!?!?!

To be fair it was mostly that the reason we needed a "front sweeper" was that Morgan doesn't tackle or operate defensively and only passes sideways. You do wonder what game some people are watching at times.

especially when they used to regularly tell other posters to shut up as they have not worked in the game like said person and clearly are not as knowledgable.....it was the gazza being the best keeper at the club line that did it for me.......but hey, we have all been mightily wrong plenty of times...its having the grace to admit it and laugh at yourself

Lived in Manila for five years and footy didn't get a look in over Basketball and Pool :( Get all the games in Shanghai but I'll be in Singapore to watch us beat the Toon :)

You'll probably be able to see as much as those of us at the match - without looking at the tv. :)

So "that it's basically just deploying a defensive midfielder and the fact we already have two of those" then, along with some general ignorance about what Schneiderlin does and how well he does it. Ok, thanks for the context. Though if he's going to spend all match pressing opposing centre backs maybe we DO need a front sweeper. ;)

ticket now sold but hotel room still available

Hmm... To what extent is your avatar an accurate representation of your true appearance?

Surely we have to play Ramirez, after the game at St Marys vs Newcastle was the first game he really came alive. I remember a lot of pundits saying how good he was in that game...plus of course he scored, for once

He has been poor almost every away game though.

IMO his best game was his first game vs Aston villa. No same team as man city game but with shaw in for fox.

That logic doesn't work though. Very good vs Villa at home, awful at Villa away. It's MP's job to get the best out of him, and make sure he's not a massive waste of money.

With the way we're playing now there's a real chance of the rest of the season passing Ramirez by without him really doing much else.

I can see Davis starting in away games, with Ramirez coming on as a sub and the other way round in home games.

do you remember when we used to play football matches occassionally? Them were the days! The man city game already feels like it was last season or something ffs.

League 1 was much better in the actually playing football matches stakes. In those days you were pretty much on for a game every tues and sat afternoon. Now we only play once a month cause premier league players moan about being tired.
