Who were the last pairings to match Morgan/Cork, Clyne/Puncheon and Shaw/Lallana?

In the centre and on the wings, you'd have to go back a distance to think of pairings you'd swap for these. Our last decent pair down the left were Bridge and Marsden, but who would you prefer?

In the centre I'm struggling for a pair who could compete with teams like United, City and Chelsea like Cork and Morgan have. Would you have to go back to the early eighties for something like Ball and Williams? Delap and Oakley were our last regular PL pair and they weren't exactly dominant.

The last time we were in the PL, we had Dodd or Telfer playing with Fernandes. I certainly wouldn't swap them for Clyne and Puncheon.

This is probably another case of over-rating our players after a good run of form, but who would you have to go back to to match each of these three pairs?

I was thinking the exact thing earlier....can't believe that Oakley was on a par with cork?? Svenson flattered to deceive. Different systems though I suppose all I can say is I am enjoying the team that we are developing, and the ages of the payers shows we have a fantastic future to come....Morgan and cork et season could be immense!!

Just thinking about it,and off the top of my (beer fuddled) head:

CM - Ball/Williams

Left - probably Bridge/Marsden in recent times, but Dennis/Armstrong best pairing

Right - Golac/Channon (ably assisted by Williams) in one touch passing down the right

This. Frequently we were unplayable when they were on song. Tore teams apart the way we did at the start of last season

I've realised the title was a bit misleading for what I was asking. I was wondering why people were mentioning Svensson and Lundekvam when we were talking about the left, the right and central midfield, but I see it could be read as meaning any classic pairing.

They were together longer, but I wouldn't rate Case and Cockerill as a better pairing than our current two. I'd say it was case on his own who was the great player there. I thought Cockerill was pretty average. I'd actually take Morgan and Cork over them if they keep their form up.

I'm also surprised at people saying Telfer and Fernandes were a match for Clyne and Puncheon. I think they were adequate, but not as effective as Clyne and Puncheon at all. I think the only person I'd agree with so far is Badger.
