norwaysaint Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 I always feel as if, when a player goes out on loan, they somehow start slipping away and will one day end up on the scrapheap, but I know this isn't always true. So which players have we sent out on loan over the years and which ones then went on to play regular first team football for us? Also, which players did the opposite and just hung around the edges of the team, never going on loan and eventually breaking through? Kenwyne Jones wasn't getting into our team, then scored for fun on loan and came back to be an important player for us and command a hefty fee. Chris Baird went out on loan a couple of times and also became a regular first teamer. There must be loads more, who else?

Lets B Avenue Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 McGoldrick going out on loan as a youngster was great preparation....... for a career of going out on loan.
The9 Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 Lallana was at Bournemouth, didn't seem to do him any harm. I think it's generally ok for U-21s but once you get beyond that point, if you're out on loan you're not getting a new contract. The rare exceptions are injured senior players rehabbing away from the heat of the first team.

McGoldrick didn't leave because he was gash, he left because some silly sods wanted to pay money for him and we were skint.

Oh I don't know, that Kevin Davies / Beattie / Ostenstad deal was fairly successful over its two phases.
Kenilworthy Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 Ricardo Fuller went on loan to Ipswich and came back a goal machine that helped us stay up in 2006.

Lighthouse Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 We are pretty lucky Morgan and Lallana were both crap that season. If they had been half decent someone would have offered £500k each for them and we'd have had to sell to balance the books. Surman was a good example of sending youth players on loan. Was very impressive at Bompey for a while then came back and forced his way into our first team.
