Gemmel Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Mcleish has left, so there is an opening. Seems like the perfect opportunity for him. Not sure what Sharp would think about it though :)
SuperSAINT Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Yeah, why not. Got some money. He knows the league. Owners are slightly crazy. He'll love it.
Suomi Saint Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 I think he should give it a big miss. The owner's are worse than Cortese.
Thedelldays Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 If he did, automatic promotion or bust for him by end of next season Would be a good job if he had a bit of money to spend like he did here
saints-cris Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 In terms of club size i'm sure there'll be some appeal. He'd do a good job there I'm sure.
student Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 He should take on Leeds when Warnock goes in the summer, its the logical step
The Cat Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Adkins was in my dream last night. He was wandering around a wooded bit of the Common looking sad and lost wearing a Saints' jacket. I went and gave him a hug. That must mean he's going to Forest because he was in the trees in my dream.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 What about Atkins or Alkins? Aren't they in the frame ? To be far I quite like Forest so would love him to go there and do a great job. Also there is a few ex saints in there too so would be interesting to see how he'd get on. Massive club who should be in the prem really, would be good to have them back. Owners are clowns though.

They have already lined up Adkins I reckon. Hence the quick sacking.
pingwing Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Hope he avoids that running mess, seems to be more and more club owners are looking to raise their international profile without actually building a team or any success first... Leeds under new owner ship or Huddersfield would be more sensible moves than Forest (especially as the transfer window is now shut)
Baldbarbarian Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Adkins was in my dream last night. He was wandering around a wooded bit of the Common looking sad and lost wearing a Saints' jacket. I went and gave him a hug. That must mean he's going to Forest because he was in the trees in my dream. haha brilliant. I think Nigel should hold out for the Leeds job, the Kuwaiti owners of Forest are crazy (even more crazy than the Don)
ToreSF Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Would be REALLY funny if they appoint Steve Kean. Poor Forest fans.
The9 Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 If I'm Adkins I'm sat at home counting my money waiting for the next bottom half Premier League casualty, rather than risking my hard-earned reputation on trying to hoik one of the endless sleeping giant championship sides out of one of the toughest leagues, without the assistance of wealthy backers.
SNSUN Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Mcleish has left, so there is an opening. Seems like the perfect opportunity for him. Not sure what Sharp would think about it though :)This. Yeah, why not. Got some money. He knows the league. Owners are slightly crazy. He'll love it.This They have already lined up Adkins I reckon. Hence the quick sacking. This Adkins was in my dream last night. He was wandering around a wooded bit of the Common looking sad and lost wearing a Saints' jacket. I went and gave him a hug. That must mean he's going to Forest because he was in the trees in my dream. Ghey Would be REALLY funny if they appoint Steve Kean. Poor Forest fans. ...or Michael Appleton managing his umpteenth team of the season. I still think the Blackpool fans have had a lucky escape there.
This Charming Man Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Isn't Nigel Adkins that guy who used to manage us?
Thedelldays Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 I can't see Adkins getting a prem job unless he promotes a teAm If he waits for the perfect club, he will be waiting a long time
Liquidshokk Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Has Adkins been seen or heard from since the sacking?!? I'm sure Pardew was in the media pretty much straight away when he got the chop...
Saint Garrett Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Think he went on a long holiday as Huddersfield were apparently trying to get hold of him but he wasn't answering his phone.
Gemmel Posted 5 February, 2013 Author Posted 5 February, 2013 Has Adkins been seen or heard from since the sacking?!? I'm sure Pardew was in the media pretty much straight away when he got the chop... My son was speaking to Adkins son, who told him Adkins and wife had gone a holiday, last week someone posted a picture on here of him in Winchester, so he is either back............... or came home early
dubai_phil Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 He was in Trader Vics in Dubai with his wife a couple of weeks ago according to the Huddersfield Forums
Window Cleaner Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Why are boards so stupid? I mean, appointing McLeish? Have they seen football before? How does this happen? Because he probably has some impressive looking stuff on his CV from Scotland. no-one realises just how crap Scottish football is nowadays. I mean even Skacel scored goals there.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/nottingham-forest-specials/next-permanent-manager Adkins 2nd favourite behind Billy Davies... Quite funny to see their owner at 11th favourite
Thedelldays Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/nottingham-forest-specials/next-permanent-manager Adkins 2nd favourite behind Billy Davies... Quite funny to see their owner at 11th favourite just proves how stupid those sites are....or how they just follow the money.. WGS is fairly high up on the list...there is no way he is going to be their manager in the next few weeks... on the radio phone-ins this afty...the fans who phoned in all wanted Di Matteo or Billy Davies...
Saint Garrett Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 I think it will be between Adkins/Davies/Di Matteo/Di Canio. Maybe even Hasselbaink in with a shout as didn't he say he wanted his next job to be manager ?
shirleysfc Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 They have already lined up Adkins I reckon. Hence the quick sacking. Surely Adkins wouldn't talk to the Forest owners whilst someone else was manager...
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 He's probably on gardening leave until next season having no doubt been paid off handsomely. Villa will be vacant soon enough.
CanadaSaint Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 If I'm Adkins I'm sat at home counting my money waiting for the next bottom half Premier League casualty, rather than risking my hard-earned reputation on trying to hoik one of the endless sleeping giant championship sides out of one of the toughest leagues, without the assistance of wealthy backers. Pretty much this for me, although I think he'd be quite happy with a more stable and progressive Championship club. He's always struck me as a very balanced guy, so I think - and hope, because I really like him - that he'll take some time off, enjoy his family, and make a careful choice. No jumping from the frying pan into the fire. And Forest would probably be a fire.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Yeah, why not. Got some money. He knows the league. Owners are slightly crazy. He'll love it. Slightly crazy - more barking surely
trousers Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 @pn_neil_allen: Forest and their fans interested in Paul Hart as new boss??!!! Is his managerial CV written in invisible ink or something? #Pompey That'll be the same ink that Pompey write cheques to their creditors with...
Olallana Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 I think he should give it a big miss. The owner's are worse than Cortese. Most owners/chairmans are.

CB Fry Posted 5 February, 2013 Posted 5 February, 2013 Nigel Clough at 40/1 is mightily tempting. There's the family history, and Clough Jr has being doing well on limited resources at Derby. Interesting... No chance. He won't walk out on Derby to go to Forest. Keep your money in your pocket.

Saint Garrett Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 Sounds like it will be Billy Davies as he was in talks with Blackpool but has 'followed an alternative opportunity'. I put a fiver on Adkins the other day so that's a bit annoying! lol

Saint Garrett Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 I've got a close family friend who is a big Forest fan. He sent me a big rant email when Adkins was sacked from us, moaning about foreign owners etc, and said he wished Forest waited and got him instead of Mcleish....he might just get his wish! Although from a few flicks through forestforum.co.uk, I think they are keen to get Davies back. He did a good job there despite being a little c*nt. Always got his teams to be very hard to beat. Would love Nigel to go there and be a success though.
saints-cris Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 Forest strike me as a club who seriously need some freshness and enthusiasm. Nige would certainly give them that. Going back to an old manager seems a bit pointless to me..
scotty Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 Going back to an old manager seems a bit pointless to me.. Can you tell that to Dalek, next time he starts banging on about Hoddle? tia.
Olallana Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 I dont think it is so strange that their fans is more keen on someone else than Adkins. If you are a fan of another club and look at his work at Southampton I think they will believe that he never really says anything in interviews, that they are just a lot of catchphrases with little substance and that with the budget he´s been having in League One and The Championship he really should get promotions out of those leagues.... Of course we have a completely different view of his work here but I´m just trying to understand what other fans would think about his time here.

pingwing Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 How much did we spend in the Championship? Net spend or Gross spend? Net we still made a profit (from selling AOC). Gross £7 or £8m I think.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 It was only about 5m or something we spent last season. We only brought in Cork (750k), Fox (1.2m), Sharp (1.5m), Jos (500k), De Ridder (500k), Lee (free)....Is that it ?
Sour Mash Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 Net spend or Gross spend? Net we still made a profit (from selling AOC). Gross £7 or £8m I think. £7-8m? Cork, Fox, Hooiveld, Sharp, De Ridder?
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 £7-8m? Cork, Fox, Hooiveld, Sharp, De Ridder? which in reality....in a league where many top players are sold regularly...and where money is very tight for most clubs..that is a lot... throw in keeping everyone else and paying very very well im sure west ham spent most though..??
pingwing Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 Could have sworn Jos was closer to £1.5m and De Ridder was a around 800k. Still should have gone for 6-7m
Sour Mash Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 which in reality....in a league where many top players are sold regularly...and where money is very tight for most clubs..that is a lot... throw in keeping everyone else and paying very very well im sure west ham spent most though..?? And Leicester, maybe Boro and Cardiff close to us, as well as Brighton. Think having a lot more money then most of our rivals is a valid claim for League One, a lot less so for our Championship season.
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 And Leicester, maybe Boro and Cardiff close to us, as well as Brighton. Think having a lot more money then most of our rivals is a valid claim for League One, a lot less so for our Championship season. more than that..it blew everyone bar none out of the water...

Think having a lot more money then most of our rivals is a valid claim for League One, a lot less so for our Championship season. Leicester spent loads - almost £5mil on Matt Mills alone. Brighton, Leicester and West Ham definately outspent us.
Olallana Posted 6 February, 2013 Posted 6 February, 2013 How much did we spend in the Championship? I´m not saying that we did, but I DO think that is the general opinion amongst other clubs fans....most fans don´t look into what other teams spend that thoroughly....
