RobM Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 I'm sure it is about fitness and awareness. I'd like to think we signed him as he is a better CB than Jos, but Jos knows the way we play, knows the team and is a safer choice. Sometimes a lesser-player with a good relationship (playing wise, not personally) with the team is a safer bet than a better player coming into the team for the first time. Hopefully it's all about fitness, and not that Hooiveld is considered as a better option. It must surely be fitness.....as the Norwegian season finished about 9 weeks ago...don't know if / how much he's trained since..and I doubt if he was "Saints fit " when he came. and of course ...Jos has looked a lot better in the last month than he did at the start of the season....don't see MP changing him out yet.....unless he has a really bad game. a1ex2001 Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 I'm not that bothered the defence has looked reasonably solid in recent weeks and if we could as a team defend a set piece they were pretty much un troubled at Wigan. Don't want to see foren rushed in before he's fully fit and ready we are not desperate.

Yeah, they've looked all right, but Yoshida was directly to blame for Wigans first goal, and Jos was involved in both Mat Utd goals and Wigans second. Saint Charlie Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 The second Wigan goal was down to Luke shaw. Hooiveld beaten too easily by Scharner. For Wigans only open play chance Hooiveld let Di Santo ger across him too easily. He is definitely our weak link at the moment. Hopefully if Forren gets a good run out for Norway they might think about starting him at Man City. Dig Dig Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 You can see from Forren's body language in the training pics and videos that he doesn't appear happy and seems reluctant to intregate himself into the spirit of the squad. You can almost see the wistful longing for Liverpool in his eyes. Added to the fact that Forren was ripped apart by Jonno Quick in his last training session for the club, I suspect it will be a while until we see him in the team, if at all. Darren Kenton mark II IMO

The9 Posted 5 February, 2013 Share Posted 5 February, 2013 The second Wigan goal was down to Luke shaw. Bit harsh, he might have been playing Maloney onside, but Rodriguez was marking him at the set piece and just left him. Oh, and according to the OS, Forren is playing for Norway this week, so you'd have to think that would make him at least as match fit as all the other post-season Norway-based players. He's on the bench. If you were arrogant enough to think someone who's not starting games for their club would be starting on their national team, think again. Leicestersaint Posted 6 February, 2013 Share Posted 6 February, 2013 It is all very odd. I hate Ukraine. They have all the worst qualities from the world's football cultures They hit the ground as easily as the Spanish They play dirtier than the Serbs and Czech When ahead, they waste more time than Italy All that with greedier tactics than Germany That aside, looks like a typical Norwegian february performance. Even if most of the players are from non-domestic clubs.

Dalek2003 Posted 7 February, 2013 Share Posted 7 February, 2013 If the fact that we spunked 3.5 million on a player in a position we desperately need to strengthen, and then find he can't play for us but can for his country wasn't so ****ing tragic....I would cry ! Lighthouse Posted 7 February, 2013 Share Posted 7 February, 2013 There is a bit of a difference in playing 45 minutes in a meaningless international friendly against Ukraine and playing a full 90 minutes in the Premier League against 2 possible Champions League teams and a relegation 6 pointer. Hooiveld is playing alright and I actually thought he looked very good against Wigan (despite people saying he is a liability because he once got beaten in the air by 6ft 3 Paul Scharner). There was and is no need to rush Forren into the team. The fact that he played last night is encouraging and not the basis for some Delgado-esq club vs country outrage.
