JWP going on loan?

If true I think this would be a mistake. We don't exactly have that many central midfield replacements and he can certainly hold his own in the Prem. Perhaps some experience would be good, but JWP is far better than League 1 standard. If we stay up get some summer signings and let him boss it at a mid-top Championship club.

Not sure Coventry would be the right choice for him, would have thought a Championship side would be better, but I have no issues with him going out on loan as long as there is a recall clause.

I would rather him go on loan than appear for us only a couple more times. For his development he needs regular competitive action.

Weird story. JWP going to Coventry would be good for them and not too bad for him (basically because he would get loads of game time albeit at a lower level), but it would make little sense for us - he can't be too far off the first team, can he?

I'll assume it's a hoax...

.....for a short term loan anyway. I think it's a good solution to bring on our " younger " players. Hoskins and Reeves and already out on loan - so why not ?

Everyone admits JWP has great talent, but he's not better than our regular midfielders - at present...a run of a few games will give him the match practice he badly needs.

Being on the bench, and (maybe) getting 15 mins. sub time isn't going to make him a Prem. player.....but getting 90 mins. games every week - just might.

They have already got tons of midfielders, so it's no guarantee that he'd play every game anyway. JWP will be a class player, and already is, so I'd rather have him on the fringes of our squad than on the fringes of theirs. If we lose Morgan or Cork, god forbid, I'd worry about putting Chaplow in there *as 4th choice, and would feel a lot more confident with JWP brought in - he was class at the start of the season, especially in the United game where he caught my eye with a mature display.

With Puncheon & Ramirez having wobbles at the moment

(And Ramirez's regular Dead Leg issues)

We are more likely to see Davis getting a game with AL back in the squad

As Clyne took a knock Saturday and we put Cork to Rb we are left with WHAT exactly as cover in midfield?

No way on this planet he should go out on loan

(Unless weve brought Hammond back from Brighton)

According to the Mirror, JWP is going on loan to Coventry to get experience.

Would this be a good move or is he better off being here as he is currently on the fringes again?

League 1 ?? Needs to be playing at a higher level than that, he'll get massacred.

I thought the same thing: he may be behind Davis, but if Davis is used in tandem with Ramírez then JWP is first in line to take over from Schnork....

If he does go on loan he HAS to play and their is more than a good chance if he goes to a championship club he'll be on the bench most of the time. I would keep as we need him.

Spot on. We have been burnt by loans this season with sending out players to get experience who have not played - eg Aaron Martin.

The Reeves loan probably shows that we'd rather send thm down an extra division to guarentee game time. It also shows we are not arsed whether SDR plays or not!

he's hardly played for several months. Ten minutes at the end of the odd game isn't going to help him a great deal. He needs games. A month out on loan will do him good. What kind of call back do you get on month long loans?

I'm bound to be wrong with somebody pulling out a list of stats proving so, but sending promising players out on loan doesn't often seem to work out well for us does it? Loads of them go out and never make it afterwards and end up hardly playing while on loan.

Rare successes I can think of are Kenwyne Jones and Lallana. Who else came good after being on loan?

Oh, forgot Puncheon, but for him it wasn't really about gaining experience.

Normally, " loaning out players " has been a tactic to get a player match-fit (if they are seldom getting a bench place) or a ploy to get another club " interested enough to buy them ".

However, with up-and -coming talents (like JWP) thye need match-practice. He's very promising, though still quite young and needs to up his game time - if he's to be a serious challenger along with Lallana, Steve Davis, Ramirez, Puncheon, Cork and Schneiderlin.....(and there's still Guly, too).

I, for one, didn't expect him to hold his place and be playing all season. Newcomers seldom do..but his potential is obvious to everyone.

A few matches , at a " not-so-difficult " level will help him develop far more than all the U21 games can ever do.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins would neither confirm or deny reports linking him the Sky Blues with young Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

According to The Mirror, the 18-year-old could be farmed out to the Ricoh Arena for experience.

Ward-Prowse was a regular in the Saints line up at the start of the season but has played only one Premier League game since December.

At today's press conference, Robins said: "There was little doing on that particular issue."

The Sky Blues boss did admit he rates Ward-Prowse as a good player.

If he went on loan for a month now, he would miss games against Man City, Newcastle and QPR. Games that barring injury he is very unlikely to get more than a 10 minute run out in any of them.

Coventry have 5 games in that period and he could conceivably get a full 90 minutes in all of them, were he to go on loan there. If he's not going to start, I would much rather he went there and played than sat on out bench. We could always recall him and he would arguably be of more use to us with some match fitness under his belt.

So Dave, who replaces him on the bench?

I assume.. Chaplow.... or Lee....or Mayuka...or Guly (when fit).

(for the record JWP has been on as sub. in only 2 of his last 8 bench selection, and then not as first change ...I hardly think letting him play for a month, or so would greatly upset our formation - would it ?)
