trousers Posted 3 February, 2013 Share Posted 3 February, 2013 Didn't realise Roger Black was a Saints fan. Brought up in Portsmouth too. 20 mins through a two hour interview on TalkSport now - interesting listen so far. Danny Kelly has already compared Southampton with Pompey...,"Two badly run clubs heading in different directions". More talk about current Saints set up later in the interview. saintbletch Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Yep Gosport his father was a GP, I think he went to Pompey Grammar School. I hope he was. Because, that's the excuse he used to touch my balls as a young lad.
CWD Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Yeah he's a Gosport lad, his parents still live there I think. Used to travel over to PGS on the ferry with my Dad, and while I was at the school he often came down for fundraisers and prize givings. Really nice guy. In fact, my Dad still claims he's the reason behind Roger's success. At a sports day when he was about 14, he ran the 400m in a really quick time. Afterwards my Dad said to him, "Roger, that was really good, you should think about doing that professionally". The rest is history!

Scudamore Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Really?? I was sure he was straight. Hypochondriac has the figure of a middle aged woman. It's easy to see how Roger got confused.

david in sweden Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Now, there's a topic for debate. yes Colin. Now that POMPEY are in the L1 drop zone, perhaps Nicola Cortese can find another billionaire to buy them up and start a revival ....NO! on second thoughts - don't fancy that idea. dronskisaint Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Well we are not exactly a well run club. Expand...? Everything is never going to be to everybody's liking but the number of clubs that would give their first born away to be in our position is enormous. Paid for ground, upgraded (but largely owned outright) training facilities...young, talented squad - vision for the future (I agree optimistic but three years ago...or four where would you have put where we'd be?) - sure we're not setting the division alight position-wise although I'm enjoying our football - but I don't see too many signs of it not being run well whatever personal opinions may be held about the management. I'm sure the offshore loan will be brought up...I, like everyone else on here, don't have access to the details but I'd probably trust a succesful banker to have done the sums...there's a lot of money rolling in to the club so debts are going to stand a good chance of being sustainable. david in sweden Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 Hmmm, not sure we are badly run at this point in time. well it depends if your critics are Spurs, MU, or City fans...but as far as Pompey are concerned ...we must be on another planet ..or maybe they are.
