Would relegation really be that bad?

Cheaper tickets.

More home games.

More traditional Saturday 3pm kickoffs.

Less plastics.

Easier to get a half time beer.

More chance of winning games.

Better atmosphere.

All these things would come true if we were relegated. I'm not sure relegation would be worth getting all stressed about tbh. I quite liked last season.

At first I thought it wouldn't be too bad to go back down but now we are up here it is sooo clear that this is the place to be. Every game is a cup final regardless of who you play because winning is so more important and so damn hard to come by so when you do it is euphoric. . Also there is a the money side of it all the hype and coverage you get as a team which you just do not get in any other league. I it would be disastrous if we go down I am sure.

Not really, I quite like seeing us do well againt the best personally..

Don't we all. But we're not really doing that are we, and relegation would prove that we hadn't done that!

Why not try and see the brighter side of life? Football is only a recreational experience to be enjoyed. It doesn't really matter which team we are playing against.

Fair enough but I think my list of relegation perks shows that " disastrous" is something of an exaggeration.

We've been relegated twice before and yet we're still in the Premier League.

I dont really like the thought of losing our best players tbh + if we want to achieve anything then the Premier League is the place to be so no I very much want us to stay up. You say its about the matchday experience, well so far theres been nothing wrong with my experiences in the top league.

I'll remind you of this next time you whinge about a result! ;)

Gazzaniga

Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox

De Ridder JWP Hammond Guly

Barnard Hoskins

No Lallana, Morgan, Cork, Clyne, Forren, Shaw, Ramirez, Lambert etc and Punch and Boruc off the wage bill at the end of their contracts

If we go down, that scenario could happen. Yes it'd be bad. Don't get me wrong I loved the Championship when we were in it, but the Prem is the place to be. Staying up, strengthening in the summer and a successful season next season (very doable) would be immense.

If we go down we're only going to want to come back up again, so how do we work our way around being in a league with the points you mentioned? We become a club like Barnsley and settle for mediocrity. That or winning more games gets us promoted again.

I'd rather we kept our prospects/key players and work on becoming a stable top 10 club. And we've got more chance of that now than we did ten years ago. I don't know about you but I enjoy seeing Saints go up against some of the best players in the world, let alone being able to pull of signings like Ramirez.

It's all about the match day experience at the end of the day.

Won't you enjoy it more if we win?

Just a slight contradiction across those posts, hmmmm?

You know, a lot of people say "oh, I loved it in the Championship". Well, we were only in it for one season cos we did well enough to get promoted. Would you love it so much if we were stuck there for 10 years barely managing the play offs?

It would be our own fault we went down through the obvious failure to secure quality players in the last two windows, at least if we went down the clappers would disperse and the fans who are realistic and dont actually think we will be challenging for the top 6 in 3 years time garbage. To do that we would need to spend more than is so blatently obviously apparent for our chairman.

I wouldn't be bothered there are thousands of fans across the country who quite happily enjoy supporting a team not in the PL and the last few years have shown me there is footballing life outside the PL which is fun and enjoyable (and certainaly more affordable). I haven't enjoyed this season much at all the journey to the PL is far more enjoyable than actually being in the PL.

Football is cracking at the day to day level i think, obviously the hype is still there on sky and for those that haven't been going for any length of time (or those that watch it on tv). But you can see more and more that we're starting to see the beginnings of a revolt on how fans are treated.

Fan culture is being slowly killed, most clubs (ours included) are rotten to the core by money, ticket prices are beyond stupid and the game as a whole is sanitised.

I hope to god the change comes personally.

**** relegation, we're a Premier League club.

We are but that does not mean we shall be there, if we go down and its 50/50 (it should not be but there we go) we will lose all of our good players and its as simple as that, the clappers will still say its part of the 5 year plan though and the don knows best.

Serious post or just wind up I dont know but what I do know is that if we do go down then I wont be as devastated as i was back in 2005.

After seeing life outside the Premiership it no longer holds any fears for me.

Spot on.

But the fact that this has been started as a thread suggests to me that the unthinkable is becoming thinkable. We are dropping far too many points from winning positions.

Why do the mods let sotonjoe post a load of wummery?

Because he is entitled to his opinion and has presented his arguments in a reasonable manner. And anyone who claims they dont strike a chord with them to at least a slight degree is a liar.

It speaks volumes about Mr "Win It For Ricky Martin" that he finds it to be trolling.

Better still, let's hope we collapse down the entire league table. Or even end up in the Blue Square.

Tickets would be much cheaper then. The plastics would be gone. And we could almost guarantee kick offs at 3pm on Saturdays.

It's no a brainer, surely.

Yeah, because getting relegated from the Premier League worked out so well the first time. The Saints squad as we currently know it could never be sustainable for more than a season at Championship level - without the big TV money we'd be back to living off scraps of talent and journeymen. Not to mention that it's hard enough to keep hold of our most promising young players as it is - in the Football League you're a sitting duck.

More chance of winning? More chance of stagnating (again).

Do you have a short memory? Even last season we had games moved around all over the place. There was a good 4 to 6 week period around Christmas 2011 where we didn't have a single 3pm Saturday game. I also don't see how getting a pint at half time is part of this motivation since it's been easier this season than any other in recent memory.

And you've been trolling for years.

His OP was absolutely fine, and merited discussion by interested people with mental ages reasonably elevated above infancy. I think hes wrong but can understand why some people think like that.

But thanks for admitting you play the man and not the ball.

Quite ridiculous OP.

Obviously someone that has no idea about sport. If you play sport at reasonable level or are lucky enough to be a pro, then it is about winning and playing at the highest level.

We are in the English FA, the highest level is the Premier League, that's where the players want to play, any Chairman worth his salt would want his Club to be playing in the Premier League, its where most true supporters want to see their Club playing, in the Premiership. If the unthinkable happens we will lose most of our decent players, RL, AL, GR, Clyne, Cork, MS, LS plus all the decent youngsters that we are bringing through would be snapped up by the big boys.

Clearly you have never played football at a decent level or you would not be making such a ridiculous statement. If you want second best f£$% off down the road and support the sh ite in skate land.

So true! 2005 was a nightmare - well it would have been a nightmare if i could have slept. life outside EPL is ok and nowhere near as bad as i thought it would be. don't want to spend too long there though. EPL is all money money money
