A friendly, no real pressure, one of if not the in form englsih striker as it stands ... i'd love to see it and it'd make sense but im sceptical. Ok fine RL isnt exactly the future of english football but has he shown enough to prove he might be worth having in Brazil? I'd say so!

Probably Carroll. That's how ****ing silly the situation is! When Platini managed that great French side he stated that he picked players on form not on age. At the time this methodology was mooted to get Jimmy Case in the England side, but that never happened either!...

Carroll cost £35m and used to play for Liverpool

Sturridge cost £12m and plays for Liverpool

Welbeck plays for Man Utd

Rooney plays for Man Utd

No way Rickie will get in ahead of that lot, even if his goal record is equal to the first 3 put together.

Did Sturridge leave Liverpool after he scored for them this afternoon? :-)

Am I the only one absolutely fine with Rickie not being picked for England. I want him to get a break and not get injured. Could be the difference between relegation and not.

I agree with this but I think it would be good for him to have his achievements recognised. Playing for England would likely be the biggest achievement of his career. I don't want him to be a regular but a 15 minute cameo in a friendly would be brilliant. Might also help end the bias against unfashionable clubs. The fact that we're even talking about this shows how far our club has come in the last few years

The ridiculousness of the situation is that it WILL probably be someone like Andy Carroll called up, despite the fact he's had a lengthy lay off and has done next to sod all this season. There are one or two strikers I think would be called up before Lambert sadly, although I'd LOVE it if he did get a call up - even if he probably wouldn't see turf.

This, especially against Brazil, even if he never gets another cap!

I'm with this.....

Although I would love rickie to be recognized for all of his good work we would be in serious trouble if he were to get injured in a pointless proxy friendly for England.......but if he gets the nod I would be delighted and proud.

How old is Rickie now ? 31 ? He is too old for the England team TBH Im sick and tired of older players getting in the squad anyways.

There is Rooney, Welbeck, Walcott, Carroll and probably Sturridge.

The fact that Woy will go witha maximum of 2 strikers means itll be two out of three (walcott, Rooney, welbeck)

Leon Osman is almost 32 while Rickie is 30. If Rickie played for a 'top 6 club' he'd get called up.

He is too old to play a part in an egland squad yet week in week out looks like one of the best english strikers in the epl? What a nonsense!

If Sturridge, Welbeck or Carroll played for SFC they'd never have been in an England squad between them. There is no excuse for managers not to pick the top scoring English forward but ala Darren Bent at Charlton, James Beattie at Saints etc it doesn't happen. It's a bit embarrassing for the managers that they are swayed so much by who counts as a "big name" or a "fashionable choice" but that's life. We'd rather he wasn't distracted before the weekend anyway.

Its a complete fallacy that he is too old. The England squad at the moment is being prepared for the World Cup which is next year. This is not "buikding for the future". He is not too old for the 2014 WC. 2016 Euros different, but surely even England are not using the WC as preparation for the Euros.

If (the England manager) is stubborn enough not to pick him ..on grounds of age....or whatever, so what.

England will get massacred anyway.....Don't worry Rickie, IMHO..... it's a good game to miss.

Historical note;

in the mid 1970's... at the height of his success, Mick Channon was dropped by the then) England manager ...(Revie?) and playing without him England were appauling, and lost badly in a very poor game. Though we were all disappointed beforehand...in retrospect it was a good game NOT to be involved in.

If England play as poorly as I expect (v Brazil), Rickie may well be in even greater demand ..later on.
