Agree with this. I've lived and worked in various spots accross the midlands and work with people from all over. Never once have I heard anyone mention Saints=Scummers. Quite the opposite really - my two brothers and all my non-forum Saints supporting friends call Pompey scum and never use the Skate thing. My bros both think the Skate name is lame as fu ck and not actually "real". They're right. It's just some toss from the Ugly Inside fanzine which has stuck on webforums and now journos use it. Pompey=Scum. So, Skates is bulls hit, like no one really calls Sunderland "the black cats" except reporters. Anyway, scummers is complete generic term. Ask Watford/Luton fans. The main difference is the yid thing is intrinsically linked to Spurs, and not just Arsenal fans but all London clubs (and other clubs) give them yid related stick. Saints and scummers is not quite the same. Fans of other clubs might sing "you're just a small town in portsmouth" but I can't recall any of them ever calling us "Scummers", except Pompey and wannabe Pompey-fans, hello Bournemouth. Giordano Posted 4 February, 2013 Share Posted 4 February, 2013 I never let off a smoke bomb on the terraces but I have to say they do look pretty cool on the TV when ive seen them in Italy Turkey etc. I still have am amazing mental image of what it was like that time in Rumania in the rain and wondered why we cant get that kind of atmosphere and of course its all to do with Elfnsafety. Which is fair enough. I'm not supporting unsafe activity on the terraces but I must admit i do know what its like to be there supporting the team and I can imagine its a right buzz having one of those going off around you when Saints score and stuff like that.A right buzz. Especially if you've had a few beers. So- you can be elfnsafety and condemn it if you like- and i will agree- but hopefully you can understand why it happened, how it happens and realise that this kind of stuff will AlWAYS happen when you get a bunch of lads hyped up at an away trip.
