A little worried

Not many seem to think that we will go down, and this is good, and I am one of these.

I am though a little worried that we are not winning enough games, and why we are pretty poor in the first half and look a op team in the second. Also a factor of our 2004/2005 season was throwing away leads late on, which we have done at Stoke and Wigan.

If you look at the facts.

1-3 up at Stoke and only took a point

Out played arsenal, but only took a point

Outplayed Everton but only took a point

Outplayed Man U in the second half and had the lead, but got noting

Now outplayed Wigan, and they get a late point.

This is 5 games that we should have got more than we did.

As I said I am really happy with the way we can play, but what happens when we do not produce this form? I know the forest relegation team where always told that thy played football the right way, but lets face it lads we need wins. I was gutted yesterday, and even though my 4 year old is over it, I may need until this evening.

I am hoping we over run Man City and take all 3 points to relieve some pressure at the bottom. But how late do we have to go in front o hold on.

I am a little worried, but have had some tough matches. I look at march and April as the time we could and should pick up wins. Losing is a bad habit, but so is drawing, when wins are what you need, and what the game is about!

The bedwetters have been saying this for a long time, strength and depth in squad, we did not do, invest in two quality centre backs, we did not do, invest in a goalkeeper ready to go, we did not do, competition for places, we did not do, we did however upon the chairmans wishes spend/waste £12/15 million on a luxury player that was not needed when we knew we were going to be in a relegation battle due to my above points.

It simply because of Corteses doing we are in this situation, relegation or survival is moot as we are here because of him.

I feel similar. Also add in the 1-1 draws against Swansea, Norwich and Fulham where we only conceded because of keeper errors. If we'd won just 2 of the 8 games we mention things would be looking very good for us!

The frustrating thing is that I think we look like we have potential to be a pretty decent side and we'd lose most of the starting 11 if we went down. Also despite our reasonable 'form' performance wise we find ourselves 1 point ahead of Reading who have a horrible habit of being ****e for 80 minutes but still not losing (by all accounts they deserved their win yesterday though).

Oh I can see the bright future, but it is this season I am worried about. With Reading and Newcastle stringing win together. A couple of wins soon will make things much better, but this league is tough, and I would have been more confident if we held out yesterday. How long can we say that we outplayed teams without the 3 points. What is it 14 games left?

It's not only the games you have mentioned above. Look back further than that and you have Norwich & Swansea at home, where 2 individual errors gifted the opposition a point that neither looked likely to get. Then there is United at home, 2-1 up with 5 minutes left and we end up losing. You could say Arsenal at home too, they never looked like scoring and needed us to put one in our own net to give them a point.

I like most, am very pleased with the way we are playing but we must start converting draws into wins. I think it is something like 25 points dropped from winning positions this season, 25! With half of those we'd already be safe.

On the bright side we've got through a period of tough games, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and United and we are still 3 points above the drop zone with City to come. March and April look to be good months and sort of mirror November/December when we picked up most of our current points tally. I think we'll win enough games in this period to ensure we are fine.

Of course the other way of looking at it is in our last 6 games we've played four of the top 6 and only been beaten by one of them, which was away from home and thier own manager admitted they were fortunate.

Oh I forgot the massive comeback point against Chelsea, and this post did make me feel more positive. Lets beat City!

If it aint broke don't fix it, we have been using that excuse for our players/managers and chairmen all season, lets continue.

Bang on and despite the attacks on Alpine, he was picking these points up in August.

1 point per game on average will be more than enough.

Yes I look at this all the time, keep you points level with games played, and Winona the final day, will give you the magic 40 points. But we are nearly there and will be above with a win on Saturday.

You're right, we are in this position, that being the premier league, competing and at times out-playing some of the strongest sides in world football, because of cortese. I wish he'd never got us out of that league one ... We used to win games there and had a great day at wembley too. Mind you, that was only after cortese came here as well ...

I take your point mate and its a fair one, but have got to say some people on heres attitude amazes me. It's our first season back and we are playing some amazing football. Youngest squad in the division, hardly any of whom have played at this level before and we are playing Man Utd off the park at OT.Yet some posters are still continually knocking the team/club. Blah Blah why did we sign Ramirez? In the summer no one knew how punch and AL were going to do so we signed a really highly regarded creative midfielder (who is still developing) from one of the teams of the last world cup. We needed a CB, so we nick one fron under Liverpool's noses. Some people should man up I reckon. It was never going to be easy.

Agreed.

This though is far too much a sensible post, and not what we have come to expect of you Barry.

We signed Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida and Forren. We have promoted a future England player at left back to the first team. With everyone fit, it is likely that we'll have players of the quality of Ramirez, Puncheon, Fonte/Yoshida, Davis S on the bench. Doesn't look too shabby to me.

Why do people always focus on the negatives. Yes, we have let some leads slip.

But also, we beat Villa away thanks to a very dodgy penalty (and them having many more chances than we did to score)

We snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat at home to Fulham

We came back from 2-0 down to get a point at Chelsea

Obviously, if you look at all the points we could have won if absolutely everything had broken our way in every game, we'd be in the top 4 or something mental.

I'm an optimist. Not only are we presently 3 points clear of the drop, but we are playing well.

We did invest in a great goalkeeper that would have been ready to go from october and on. Unfortunately we had some moron fans in the stadium and a manager that made an awful decision to not keep him playing......3 wasted months regarding goalkeeper from october to december.

you are quite right..but a part of me think we are going to really regret some of the many missed opportunities.....

I would have taken 3-3 against stoke before the game..but you have to look at the context of the game and how it was played...we were 3-1 playing against 10 men...you HAVE to take those chances when they are gifted to you.......we never and that has happened time and time again..

I dont fancy getting anything from reading, they have found a way to win....QPR will be tough too...

I dont think we will get enough now on to stay up....of course, I would love to be utterly wrong..and it wont be the first lol

A tyrant thinks he is invincible and always ends up making reckless decisions.

Sacking NA means we are virtually certain to be relegated.

Shove your money down.

The bookies say we're 65% likely to stay up.

If I thought something was "virtually certain" and the odds were 2/1 against, I'd put a fortune on it.

Hahahahhaaah - before NA was sacked, how many points did most expect from Everton, Man U and away at Wigan? Seriously - some see to now be rewriting history and think NNA would ahve gotten us 6 or 7 points.... Jeez.Seems prrtty darn clear to most that we are playing BETTER than before. NA built seriously good foundations and did a fricken brilliant job. MP seems to be building on that - we survive and BOTH will deserve credit. We go down and BOTH will be accountable - MP can not gain us points we lost in the first 22 games.... Under NA we lost at HOME to Wigan remember?

He did not appear fit in October.

He was also a desperate 'afterthought' as a signing rather than a carefully selected target. We brought him in, only on realisation that the other two were either not up to it, or ready. Had this been a plannned signing Boruc would have been here in the summer, not October.

Thankfully, he does NOW appear fit and motivated. Shame it has taken half a season to get here though.

We will never know how we would have done under NA had he been allowed to carry on but what those of us who watch them regualrly know is that we were playing well, had got some good results, had good momentum and were sitting well-placed in 15th position. The rest of the footballing world were astounded that he was sacked at that point and treated in such a shabby way.

I keep hearing how bad we are, and definitely going to go down.

Can these people explain to me how we are 16th, 3 points clear of the drop, and have four teams are below us.

If we are so awful, how can the 4 teams below be so great?

Seems baffling to me.

my reasoning...is that we have played all (bar QPR) at home...I feel that that will work against us as the season pans out...

where as Reading (example) have to play us all at theirs.....as you can see, with said home games they have they are starting to pick up

just a feeling I have and hopefully, completely wrong

Reading are on a bewilderingly brilliant run. All credit to them.

I have every faith we will end up above Wigan, Villa and QPR though. And indeed end up much higher than 17th.

good point...

my 3 to go down were...

Villa, Wigan and A N Other....reckon that OTHER could well be QPR...(or us...or reading lol)

got an eye on norwich..they seem to be on awful form, think fulham will be fine and newcastle wont go down...nor will west ham IMO

If we end up behind QPR, given we're 7 points ahead of them with just 13 games to go, we deserve to be relegated tbh.

QPR are as good as 8 points below us.

Their current form is no better than ours. Probably worse.

Their two big signings are unfit.

They struggle to score.

They will probably be bottom

Can only assume soem of you worriers are youngsters - we had this annually throughout the 90s virtually' date=' always a buttock clenching run in... if we get through it this year, I can see it being less of of a problem next season.[/quote']

We did and I went to nearly of all of those games, the difference is we had LeTissier, the comparison is is we have Ramirez, so there is no real comparison.

To be fair, we are getting results. We've only lost 3 games in the last 9 or so weeks. Just too many draws in there really.

Loathed to get into one of your arguments

West ham have not gained many more points than us this season. By end of season they will not be jumping out to anyone as adjusted to prem better than saints.

Wrong. The general attitude to WHU in the media/pundits already is that West Ham are just a regular Prem team. Its Saints and Reading that are discussed in terms of "adjusting".

Partly to do with the tiny matter of West Ham being in no danger of going down and miles in front of us in the league.

All of those points and we would be third, but that's why we are not a top 6 side yet, we have not got the players good enough to prevent this happening. When we stay up more funds will be invested in the squad and we will improve, hence the plan over the next 2 1/2 years.
