Saints v Man City - Build up

Bit harsh to be so negative about Richardson. Not had much have a chance this season, but was excellent for us in the NPC. He's a better full back than Fox. He can also put in decent crosses on a consistent basis, something Shaw and Clyne need to improve on.

The 5 day rule only applies (or can be applied at the discretion of the national federation) if a player fails to show up without a good reason. If they have acknowledged injuries which may or may not get better by the following match the rule doesn't apply. It depends if the federation approves the reason for not accepting the selection and even then it depends if they're miffed about it..

So in Gaston's case a dead leg might prevent him from travelling to wherever it is and training or playing on Wednesday but be healed up enough to play on Saturday. Shaw turned up anyway so that depends on what he has and I don't know about Clyne. Clyne is the least of our worries anyway. Corker does a bloody good job at RB and we have Davis in reserve to replace him.

Uruguay v Spain in Qatar tonight so a 7 hour flight each way & 3 hours jet lag missed out on.

Gives him some chance of recovering by Saturday

My point when I raised it was not about one or the other. More the fact that having to play both of them against City at the same time with only Fox having had any "regular" starts earlier in the season.

Once upon a time a term was used called Match Fit in football. So having two FB's without regular match fitness against City scares the bejeezus out of me especially when we are likely to have to start with Jos.

Fox should be match fit, played alright at United the other night.

Reckon Clyne and Shaw will be fit to play anyway.

I've heard that the Pompey fans have to change trains at Southampton when they come back from the Bournemouth game.

Surely that's going to spell danger as ours is a later kick off?

They should get to Southampton Central after our game has started...

(I'm assuming theirs is a 3pm kick off?)

He's fine going forward but under pressure in defence really isn't PL standard, especially against city, he would be destroyed.

right so Kompany is probably just a draft dodger then. Hope our "injuries" heal up as quickly. :)

mind you they are absolutely desperate to win, hope they play a couple of not quite fit players and it backfires on them. Don't like City very much, probably only second to Leeds in my non-favourites.

Why? I like them much more than their noisy neighbours and Liverpool.

I had a dream that we lost 6-0. The last vivid Saints related dream I had was Jan Paul Saeijs banging a 30yd free kick into the top corner. Next game, Watford away, this happened http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXQowmHIxcg.

Lets hope I can't actually predict the future in my dreams. Actually, I had some pretty vivid dreams as a teenager that I wouldn't mind coming true....

I'd have to admit I have no logical reason for my dislike of Man City, just the way it is but it may have something to do with the obscene amount of money they've spent for relatively little success.

Fair enough. Got decent fans and always have done though...not their fault they got taken over by billionaires!

How are Clyne, Shaw and Ramirez getting on? Have they been ruled out? And does anyone know how far of Fonte and Forren are of playing?

If we have a fully fit team I can see us getting a result against City, however with a back 4 of Richardson (great crosses, but little pace) Yoshida (travelled to Japan this week) Hooiveld (great against Dzeko, but against Silva?) Fox (pace and positioning) I doubt it we would get a result.

Anyway with a inform Davis and Rodriguez, Lallana back and Rickie to take out his anger of not being picked for England against City, we can expect some goals. COYR!

@BBCFootball1: Lawro's Premier League predictions: BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson grapples with wrestling legend Hulk Hogan http://t.co/GZzcOpB5

Manchester City are nine points behind Manchester United at the top of the table and I think it is a case of 'do or die' for Roberto Mancini's side between now and the end of the season.

He has got to play an extra attacking player, because they have to try to win every game they play. Draws just are not good enough.

I know it was much later on in the campaign but City's situation now is very reminiscent of when Mario Balotelli got sent off and they lost to Arsenal on Easter Sunday last season. They were eight points adrift and the title looked over for them, same as it does now - so they have to go for it.

If Mancini picks an attacking team against Southampton, I think they will win. It won't be straightforward, though. City will be without Vincent Kompany, who is still injured and Rickie Lambert is a real handful.

Saints' performances under Mauricio Pochettino have been good and he is probably wondering why he hasn't won a game yet. I think Saturday might go down as another near-miss.

Prediction: 1-2
