Agreed tactical genius

We need start winning

Since when was it all about results?

We should be pleased about the fantastic football we are playing. If it weren't for the two sloppy goals conceded, we would have won today by two clear goals. Can't complain at that.

Apparently it is quite clear cut. It is just about results. It`s not about how well you perform or if you`ve watched a great game. That`s why GS doesn`t go to games. Just watched Final Score. That`s all he needs to know.

What a simplistic view of things. Yes we didn't win today, but we never gave them a sniff from around 30 minutes in. I can't remember seeing us play like that before; its no mean feat to achieve that in the PL.

That's two games in a row now in which Pohettino has shown he really has if spot on when it comes to tactics.

We were simply sensational today, and just need to stop conceding goals.

The future is bright.

I really thought lallana and davis should have started after the way they affected the game v United.[/quote

Perhaps Lallana isn't ready for 90 mins. at this 100 mph pace,(?) but Steve Davis is thankfully beginning to look good, because Puncheon seems strangely quiet in the last few games - compared with his early season showing.

Shaw back to his usual game....looks like he's been playing 2 seasons... but player with the MOST IMPROVED tag ..has to be Rodriguez ...thought he was outstanding and his run for second goal was superb.

I know that winding people up is your "thing" but you only seem to comment on the result, not the perfomance. If the performances are regularly good, results generally follow.

Not so....

On the match thread i have said that 2nd half we played well.

I have also questioned why we cant now seem to do it for 90.

For every positive there is 5 negatives ala Nigel ;)

There was a thread somewhere that asked the question of which players may improve under MP. I can't find it now, so this will have to do. I think most thought Ramirez would improve cos of the south American connection, but he has gone backwards IMO. Alas, he does not seem to be a player for away games.

Puncheon has also gone backwards. I felt he was one of our better players before but he's been awful in the last two games.

Davis has come on and done an excellent job and JRod has been excellent in the last two games too.

I think he should stick with Davis and Lallana vs City next week. Hopefully, Adam will be ready for 90 mins by then, or at least 75 mins. Davis will just add that little bit more control in the midfield than Ramirez.

Was at the game today and he got the tactics spot on, good subs second half.

Not his fault we didnt deal with basic set plays.

I've asked this of someone else in the post-thread, who made a similar statement: who's job is it to coach the players to defend set pieces? And, who's job is it to set the team up to defend set pieces?

Either that is tongue in cheek, a deliberate wind-up, or you are a bit shallow minded where football is concerned. It has looked pretty good (mostly) over the last 3 matches I'd say, regardless of the points tally. Far too early to declare MP a tactical genius mind - but also far too early to complain about results. Shame we are not 5 points clear on the relegation zone, but 3 points ain't to be sniffed at either....and we prevented one of the bottom three closing the gap.

I'm sure we all hope he turns out to be a outstanding success here - but with praise quite this lavish the expression 'going too early' does come to mind.

Really don't get how MP is great tactician when he has to make changes to make the team effective. A great tactician would have got it right from the start.

I am just miffed that the Poch and Morevino chappy think we are just a stepping stone for Real....

We are better than that.......and when Poch gets the hang of this league ..he will see what a great team and a world class squad he has here...:D

Just back from the game. I thought Wigan were worth their first half lead. We played extremely well in the second half, but didn't kill the game off. I was disappointed at our first half display but very excitied by our play in the second half.

Shaw, Rickie, Morgan, J-Rod and Jack all looked good today. Davis added something to our mid-field when he came on, as did Adam. Clyne and Punch were overloaded on several occassions on our left wing - it took us most of the first half to figure this out.

Impressed with Saints numbers but it turned us into St.Mary's with inly some singing...................

Wigan fans were very friendly............... but there was some agitation on the way home, looked like Saints fans were to blame but I could be wrong.

But don't worry Dalek, he'll be able to attract bigger names to the club in the transfer window than "Atkins" managed to do.

As long as they don't mind playing in the Championship, because I'll say this now, that is were we are headed and there is no point in deluding yourself. The timing of the sacking of NA was an absolute joke and the club is going to pay dearly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you would have been impressed? We got 2 points from 9 which is poor but you predicted 0 from 9

You predicted

0-5 vs Everton lose

7-1 vs Man Utd lose

3-1 vs Wigan lose

OK, I predicted 0 points and we got 2, you must be outrageously happy with such outstanding form !

Ah the old zonal marking question again. I've never met a single fan who thinks its a good idea, but a fair few managers like it. Why do some coaches love it and fans hate it? Surely coaches who spend their life in football and understand the game beyond our capacity to do so know better. Genuine question.
