When is Ramirez going to start justifying his price-tag?

I think so, we will struggle to get £5m for him if we go down.

Another **** poor performance from him amd another "dead leg".

Really? I bet we get more.

I also love the way people are gaving a go at dead legs. Until you have a proper ome you have no idea.

His best performances this season haave come from playing behind the striker, and with Lallana out recently he's not had much of a chance. With Lallana back I hope it sees an upturn in form for Gaston - but I do agree, as of yet he hasn't justified his price tag.

Definitely, I say we stick with a four-man midfield of Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Cork and Lallana, then play two up front. No need for Ramirez anymore.

To be fair he has looked decent at home (when he plays in the middle) but we shouldn't start him away from home.

Sadly we will. If MP left our big money signing on the bench he'd be right behind Adkins on the M3 Northbound.

He is young and tallented. He might not come good this season but let's give him time.

Utter, utter garbage today. Completely wasted a glorious chance to score and did absolutely nothing else but run into trouble and give the ball away.

£12m my ar$e.

you can be a big star in Italy and do nothing in the PL. It's different football and very few actually make the transition before their clubs give up and cut their losses. Dead leg again, wondering if he doesn't have a major problem there, same old injury flaring up time after time.

Needs to be used as an impact sub imho..... Offers so little especially away

shaw offers more of a goal threat and better all round play than ramerez would you not agree?

The new scapegoat:rolleyes:

You say that but he was **** today. I aint one for scapegoats but If all 12m buys you is that miss in the first half.... He HAS to do better than that.

Ooooh getting all prissy now...making post like that make you the Kn0b mush

He is an excellent footballer, no question about that. I think he is in the wrong team, he looks out of place. We need grafters with some skill and craft not a skillful player with a little graft.

Maybe in a more successful team his strengths will be more fully utilised

Who's getting prissy? (I'm sure you mean p i s s y but never mind!) i just said why I started my thread as you were being all anal about it!

Nope i mean prissy....yet another pathetic insult...get a grip

He will probably never repay his price tag for us as its a big price to live upto although the price is not his fault.

We have better players who cost a lot less like cork or Morgan and a player who cost virtually nothing in shaw and at the moment the only thing preventing gaston from being dropped is his price tag.

Imo he hasn't done anything that sets the world alight and I doubt he probably ever will for us.

He's clearly a very talented player, but doesn't really turn up away from home.

Away he seems to float around the pitch like a feather, being knocked over by anyone who blows at him.

Good player, but at the moment very lightweight.

We were promised on here (by fans who follow Italian football a lot more closely than I do) that Gaston Ramirez was a world class player in the making. Well let's face it he has not, so far at least, shown anything like that kind of form on a consistent basis.

With more than half the season already gone I'm far from convinced he's even managed to adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League. In this league you don't just turn up and expect opposition players to stand off you and admire your footwork, you first have to earn the right to play by matching their physicality - this is as true today as it was a generation or more ago.

So it must be said this player is looking to be pretty poor value for money at the moment then. Let's all hope he learns and manages to finish the season stronger than he's started it, because our fate may well depend upon this.

Right now he isn't worth that money but I bet he will be once he learns the English game. Few come over and settle into the PL straight away. Especially from Italy where it is a lot slower and you have more time on the ball.

From what I have seen (which is most games he has played) he tends to make selfish decisions i.e not pass when he should or takes shots from far out. He also seems a bit too lightweight but that won't matter as he adjusts to the style.

He will come good in the end as you can see he is a quality player.

Gaston is a very good footballer and will give Saints a very good return..

Top player and so pleased he is in our team.

Have faith you Waaankers:p

COYS

He has a thigh strain and rightfully subbed....he will fight like the next player...

Good to see Davis come on and continue his good form..

I knew the moment he sat on the pitch rubbing the outside of his upper thigh late in the first half, he'd be off at HT. Several of our players are up for a relegation scrap (for that's what we are effectively in).

Unfortunately, Gaston isn't one of them.

In Italy you get a lot more time on the ball which is why he looked **** hot in that league as he had plenty of room and time, the only league IMO that presses like the PL is la liga.

This being said I think he will come good in the last 5 or so games of the season and keep us up.

He will justify his price tag next season. Unfortunately we need him now, and that is the flaw with our transfer policy of signing young players with potential

The price tag does not reflect a 'potential' we payed full dollar for a "great player"

Posted
We payed £12m for a player who was supposed to be great. We didnt pay a small sum ala Man United for a playerbwho may turn good in 2-3 years.

To be fair, Man City paid £28m for Silva. Chelsea paid 20m for Mata.

Both of those 2 eased into life in the PL, and didn't really get going until their 2nd full season with the club.

That's why staying up this year is massive. I dread to think what will happen if we don't. The fall out doesn't bear thinking about, which is why i'm trying not to think about it!

Quality is there but he isn't the quickest. Need to see him and Lallana on the pitch at the same time. Clearly not delivering anywhere near enough to justify his price tag. Still think he has an important part to play - but also delighted we've progressed to the point that the system we play now means others can play and he isn't missed so much.
