Saint Without a Halo Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Our next 6 are not easy and they will be the real test! If we can come out of those avoiding a slip into the bottom 3 we will be fine! however it is clear that reading and Qpr are having a good run! DG Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 1/3 1/6 2/9 3/12 6/15 Hmmm we've had some tricky fixtures but the trend is worrying especially as QPR and Reading are picking points up. Saint Charlie Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 This is precisely why we are going down and Wigan are not. 13 games left and at least 16 points needed and we haven't averaged that rate all season and yes we have played everyone at least once. With Villa and Reading winning, it really isn't impossible for us to end up on the bottom at the end just as we did last time. We are leaking like a sieve and nobody seems to know how to fix the leak. We are all gutted here. Erm Villa drew and we are 3 points ahead of Wigan with a better team. Also wont need 40 points this year.

northam soul Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Sorry disagree... we have definitely shifted a gear and in style under MP... we are playing higher up, pressing and seem to have more energy second half - scored two away from home and were unlucky here not to come away with 3 points - its exiting attcking play and I for one am not frustrated with teh way we play - yes the result is disapointing but come on we have seen a real desire and hunger added and a quickening of the pace - Jrod starting to show what he is capable of, and yes this YOUNG side is still guilty of errors, but I aint complaining about the direction MP is taking us. Nige needs credit for teh foundations, but this IS a step forward IMO. Exactly this. We are looking a much better team now with these new tactics, we are finally trying to play higher up the pitch rather than knocking it aimlessly across the back four in our own half then running out of ideas. The players are looking very fit and using that fitness to good effect. We just have to be switched on at the back more.
brmbrm Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 I'd much rather be grinding out wins than dominating these draws and defeats. Sorry, but its points that count. Saint_Tony Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Totally unacceptable, we're too far into the season to be talking about these good performances which, for a lot of people, seem to be overshadowing a lack of points. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 How? He's absolutely right. We're not winning games and we could be in the bottom three soon. How are they dramatic statements? By the same token, we are playing well but not getting results. Keep up that performance level, get a bit of luck and draws turn to wins, then we could well be moving up the table. Instead of hypotheticals, lets deal with facts. We were not beaten. We are still not in the relegation zone. We still currently have a 3 point cushion. No need to panic yet. Certainly not safe, and have to keep going. But no need to panic. If rather be us than QPR, Wigan or Villa at the moment.

We have played the same amount of games as all the teams around us, and have more points than them. Therefore clearly amassing points at a greater rate than those teams. We also wernt in the bottom 3 at the half way point - ie when everyone had played everyone. So yeah, nice try. But your argument is irrelevant and totally illogical. badgerx16 Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Just got back ; first half was pretty dire, my wife compared it unfavourably to her Year 1 class at PE, ( she also described the ref as Marge - '****ing Homer' ). Second half we bossed completely, but for a team managed by an international CB we must do much better when defending corners. Great support - I think we just about managed to outdo the effort of the phew when they played there.

corky morris Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Just got in. We were poor first half. Just as against Man Utd both Puncheon & Ramirez were poor. How Ramirez missed the target we will never know when it was easier to score. If you look at their goal Yoshida lost Caldwell. Very very poor marking. BUT if Puncheon had shot or passed the ball on the edge of their box just seconds before they would have neve countered. Second half we were all over them. Morgans goal was justified & he was MOM for me. Another corner & another goal for them...................................something to work on i think. Special last mention for the referee........................what a ****!!!!! If Maloney fell over - free kick. If we get kicked - nothing. Complete tosser. Give it to Ron Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 It's alpine in disguise DD spent all season slagging of Adkins then went into hypocrite overdrive when he was sacked "now we are going down" - oh for the days under JP and Wotte and we are staying up!! 13 games to go 4 wins and 3 draws but it will be touch and go and we have to hold our nerve. Disappointing to concede from 2 set pieces and next game we need to start with 11 players not 10 and 1 luxury.
Wes Tender Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Another match where one has to question whether Adkins wouldn't have achieved as much. Another match where we were only good in one half. For all that Pochettino's tactical ability is lauded so early in his tenure, Martinez was the one whose team asked the questions in the first half with his use of three CBs and the wing backs. We found it difficult to get behind them because of the width they had and then there were five defenders back for them preventing us getting in behind them. OK, tactical changes by Pochettino produced two goals in the second half, but having pulled ahead with just a few minutes left on the clock, our poor defending of set pieces cost us two points and both goals against. And what was that all about, bringing off Clyne for Lallana and putting Cork right back? Why not bring off Puncheon at that stage and keep our shape? Puncheon didn't seem to have been his usual self during the past two matches and maybe the threat of Clyne and Puncheon up the right wing was negated by Wigan's width. It looks a bit worrying that we have just taken 1 point against Wigan's four and that Reading seem to be on a roll and now only just behind us. Judging by our defending, the introduction of Forren can't come too soon and the thinking that we had a strong enough team to enable our survival begins to look questionable if we picked up one or two more key injuries. How our team has changed in that respect. dubai_phil Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Let's face it. We need Jose or Forren back in the team then we will start to look solid and sensational. God bless Jos he gives 110% but he is an old fashioned CB who is not designed to look comfortable in possession and play out easily from the back. Yeah Maya went for the early header which left Caldwell umarked & Davis should have stayed on the post. BUT with a more confident CB in alongside Maya those errors will be less likely to happen. Jos has done a great job since he came in but once Forren is up to speed after his winter break we will kick someone's ass. And really? How the hell can Hodgson ignore SRL. Stevie61163 Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Was reading that thinking a bit pessimistic but not totally unrealistic, expecting you to say it would relegate us. Nick I was just trying to put into perspective what the ramifications of drawing away to our relegation rivals was. I never put the list together or adjusted it as I went along, I just put the points total down per game as I honestly thought it may go. as it happens if this were to be true we would have more than enough to stay up. I honestly believe that we are the best team in the bottom six and although at times things may not always go our way we will have enough to survive. what I am not a great fan of is people taking a single result and saying that our season is over or that we deffo are getting relegated. I don't know about you but come what may I have thoroughly enjoyed this season, being back in the top flight, watching every game that I cannot get to on a stream. ok so Adkins may of been a victim of his own success because I think that if we had not grown into a very competitive team as the season went on and had really struggled at the foot of the table where there was never going to be a chance of us surviving then Adkins would of stayed because without doubt he would of been the best person possible to bring us straight back up. I just wish some of the negative posters and bed wetter's on here would just enjoy the ride rather then be so intent on inflicting their negative drivel on us constantly. Lallana's Left Peg Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 As gutted as anyone with the result but the performance was by and large superb. Only negatives are conceding from set pieces (having defended well against them otherwise) and not scoring enough when we are well on top. Since the turn of the year we've played Arsenal (6th), Villa (19th), Chelsea (3rd), Everton (5th), Man Utd (1st), and Wigan (18th) and taken 7pts. Not a bad haul and we're still disappointed. Performance levels are very good and considering how long Espanyol took to take to Pochettino's tactics a few years ago I think the players have reacted brilliantly and started to adapt very well. Davis and Lallana for Ramirez and Puncheon next game please - deserve their chance to start now.
