S-Clarke Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 gutted Playing well and losing is not the way to stay up. I think we will stay up, but something's got to change. Everton were awful and we failed to score at home. SAF's compliments meant nothing to me. Now this - a terrible result with 2 points dropped. Of course we'll never know we would have won this and Everton with NA at the helm, but all the indications such as form suggest it. It's early days still, but after 3 games I don't see any evidence that MP is a good choice. We didn't lose. 3 games is no time to judge if he's good, or crap. Nothing has really changed. student Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Looking at the fixtures I can see you picking up between 14 and 17 points from the rest of your games. That will be enough to keep you up. A point a game is the aim
Window Cleaner Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Apparently we had 15 shots to their 5, but the stream also claims we had 45% possession which is ******. S-Clarke Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 I'm as disappointed as you are but look at the performances of the players. There's reason to be optimistic in my view. Totally, I'm optimistic with the way we're playing but this was Wigan tbh, we were 2-1 up with 4 mins to go, we didn't win the others around us did and we now have Man City and Newcastle up next. doggface Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Poor 1st half, immense 2nd. Turned off at 2-1.... V disappointing. Sounds like 2 set pieces that we were unprofessional. Can't blame the boss, great tactics 2nd half. Would have been a massive win, lots of great 2nd half showings. Credit to reading, thanks fellani. Ramirez needs a kick up the ass, punch frustrating today. Rickie, Davis, Shaw, jrod immense 2nd half.

cambsaint Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Worrying, QPR look to have two very useful additions, and were very unfortunate not to win. Newcastle look to have bought well, and Reading are winning. It could be very very tight: I think that Villa will go down, but I don't know who'll go down with them. Wigan aren't good enough for the Prem, but how long has that been true, they know how to escape. Just listening to Maloney saying that Saints were far better than them. Squeaky bum time! MOSaint Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Ratings Boruc - 6 - Good stop first half, not much he could have done with the goals. Otherwise he had little to do. Clyne - 5 - Didn't get forward and let Wigan in behind too often Jos - 6 - Did most things OK, let the striker get behind him in the first half for the shot that Boruc saved though. I wish he wouldn't hoof it so often Yoshida - 4 - Worst he's played for quite some time, at fault for first goal. Shaw - 8 - Good going forward, nothing got by him in open play Cork - 7 - Lots of energy, put in some good tackles and made more of an attempt to get forward than normal, did alright at RB too Morgan - 8 - Passed well, broke up play often and made a superb run & finish for the goal Puncheon - 5 - Poor, final ball is shocking, slightly better when he switched to the left Ramirez - 4 - one good pass, one shocking miss otherwise it was a job to tell he was on the pitch Rodriguez - 8 - best he's played for us, good run and pass for the second goal, made some great runs and worked hard as always. Looks like he's starting to improve as a wide player. Lambert - 9 -Created chances & got a good goal. Wigan's CBs didn't know what to do with him for the majority of the game. Subs: Lallana - 7 -More effort than Ramirez & Puncheon, looked more dangerous with him on the pitch. Don't know why he left the far post for their equaliser though Davis - 8 - Energetic, always made himself available for a pass. We were able to keep the pressure on a lot better with him on pitch as he was winning a lot of second balls. JWP - 6 - didn't have much time to do anything

I would not be surprised if we are back in the bottom 3 in a couple of weeks It's worrying but hardly panic stations. We have to factor in the fact that we are only three matches under a new manager. As long as we can keep the performance level high the results should come. Yoshi's been playing fine and can be allowed a bad match. Pity it cost us but there you are. Convict Colony Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Am looking forward to the man city win next week we are due some luck. Thought we pressed well today again, the players did it for a whole game this time now to work on set pieces and if an Argie defender can sort out our defence then no one can, we need his box of dirty tricks. Boruc hardly had much to do, Punch didn't do enough for me to stay on the entire gamem he slows down the game and opportunities with his dribbling, this isn't the playground you can't dribble round the entire team, get your head up and look for a quick pass or cross. Cork and Spiderman were fantastic, was impressed with cork and his ability to get himself out of tight spaces with fancy footwork, did it numerous times in the game even at right back. Davis again came on and provided energy like AL and the closed down well, didn't create too much but were solid. Ricky and Jay were fantastic in my opinion you don't want your strikers to be creating the chances they should be on the end of them. Onwards and upwards, tomorrows another day and we owe city who in my opinion are average without Yaya who is happily here at the moment so I am praying IC beat Nigeria tonight as I don't want to see him next week. Lets see if the decision to get a new manager makes any difference at the end of the season. Sorry disagree... we have definitely shifted a gear and in style under MP... we are playing higher up, pressing and seem to have more energy second half - scored two away from home and were unlucky here not to come away with 3 points - its exiting attcking play and I for one am not frustrated with teh way we play - yes the result is disapointing but come on we have seen a real desire and hunger added and a quickening of the pace - Jrod starting to show what he is capable of, and yes this YOUNG side is still guilty of errors, but I aint complaining about the direction MP is taking us. Nige needs credit for teh foundations, but this IS a step forward IMO.

CanadaSaint Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 A good point that most of us would have taken beforehand, but it was still 2 vital points thrown away. Rodriguez is starting to look worth the money. I'm beginning to think that we spent 12 million on a player that doesn't fit within - and doesn't contribute to - our high-pressing style. Schneiderlin must have run about 105 yards to score that cracker. Shaw is worth a frigging fortune - to us but, unfortunately, also to all of the Big Boys. frankthesaint Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Yes. We are going down. Not the team 3 points below us who we've just spanked in their own back yard. Don't be such an old woman. We should have won this game, we shouldn't have won at Villa. Swings and roundabouts, that's still 4 points away to the teams below us in the last couple of weeks. Keep picking up the draws away from home and get a couple of decent wins and we will be fine. Wigan will not overtake us playing like that. Newcastle and Reading results were a bit of a bummer but there is nothing we can do about that. We played well, we got mugged. I still think we will stay up. This.. Draw every game any you will get 38 points. That will almost ceratinly keep you up this season. We are picking up points away from home. Keep doing that and getting the odd win and we will stay up. Look at our remaining games. Home - Liverpool, Chelsea, QPR, West Ham, Man City, Stoke, West Brom. Away - Reading, Spuds, Swansea, Norwich, Nouveachateau, Sunderland. There are points in ALL of those games. No more trips to OT, Emirates, Etihad, The Bridge, Goodison etc. There are only 2 away games to teams in the top half and they are Spuds and Swansea. Anything can happen there if they have an off day.
studentsaint Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Our problem is when we have the ball in the final third the final ball is hopeful, or put in good areas where someone should be. Our second goal was more of what we need, j rod broke into the box and found schneirderlin rather than the six yard box like most of our attacks. Today they fought harder in the box, winning the headers, scoring twice.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 Immense 2nd half performance, completely strangled Wigan and got through huge amounts of work pressing and hassling them. Should have been 3 points but a momentary defensive lapse and it's 1. That's the premier league for you. Shaw my MoM - what a talent he looks - with special mentions to JRod, Cork and MS. If we could sharpen up a bit more infront of goal we should stay up no problems. Dare I say it but if we had an Adam Le Fondre up front we'd be banging them in all day long. Or a Billy Sharp, maybe? Gutted at result. Think we'll improve at the back when Forren is in the side but seems to be taking forever to get up to speed.

Charlie Wayman Posted 2 February, 2013 Share Posted 2 February, 2013 This is precisely why we are going down and Wigan are not. 13 games left and at least 16 points needed and we haven't averaged that rate all season and yes we have played everyone at least once. With Villa and Reading winning, it really isn't impossible for us to end up on the bottom at the end just as we did last time. We are leaking like a sieve and nobody seems to know how to fix the leak. We are all gutted here.
