Wigan 2-2 SAINTS /// Post-Match Reactions

Fantastic football.

Pure quality.

Martinez will feel a very very lucky man tonight.

Southampton are a fine footballing side.

What a sensational Break Away goal, one of the best all season.

16seconds from when Southampton gained possession to when it went in the net.

There were at least 4 Southampton players made lung busting runs into the box in that break. The DESIRE that showed, away from home with only 10 minutes left was So Impressive.

No, not my comments, the TV commentary team.

As for their praise of Lambert & Shaw as well as Morgan (Most tackles in the top flight) was also notable.

Bet Eric is gutted, he wanted to have a night out in his home town celebrating.

TOTAL respect to every fan that went, What a noise you put out.

From what I saw of the second half performance, we looked very good, pressed everything. Nonetheless Maloney's goal cost us the chance of going 6 clear, especially significant seeing as bloody Reading won again as did Newcastle, and Villa picked up a point. Keep playing like this and we'll be fine but we can't concede cheap goals. Get Forren fit, start Adam and things should click into place.

It was however important that we didn't lose today, and we didn't, but it was so close to being so much better.

Brilliant goals from Rickie and Morgan, and bossed the match.

Don't know what Davis was doing behind the defense for thge equaliser. Played the scorer on, not on the post just lost.

Keep playing like that and we should be OK, but need to hold on for the win.

One nil down with 20 minutes to go, even the bed wetters would have settled for a point.

They will never be happy unless we win like Barcelona every week

'Fraid have agree with above. Possessioon should mean more chances and chnces have to converted. On the balance of the game that should have been a win by at least 2 clear goals, and since Wigan are such a poor side, maybe more. But what else can be done. We have two proven strikers in Rickie and J-Rod and well as both played it wasn't enough. I thought Davis did well in midfield when he came on but wasn't so sure about Yoshida today. Expect him to hold his place ahead of Hooiveld but it would be good to see Forren coming in as soon as he's ready.

I see a chance for the rest of the season - yeah two pts dropped, but one more point in the bag. It was more important not to lose than it was to win.

And that is a very calm summary from someone who missed out on £50 due to that short little sh!t getting in at the far post. Heigh ho, bring on the champions!!

Players are a lot fitter. We are dominating teams and Wigan will be more happy than us with that point.

We are fast becoming a ver very strong team. Home or away, we are dominating.

Another point in right direction. Work in progress.

This. Still, very disappointing. We were utterly dominant though. If the side can play as well as they did in the 2nd half on Man U and for the last 60mins of Wigan, we will be absolutely fine.

Should have been better.

Could have been worse.

Frustrating, but still 3 points clear of danger.

Still think we will be ok. It's not as if we are getting hammered on a weekly basis. Better to be the team battering teams and robbed of points, than stealing lucky points.

Luck eventually runs out, class will always shine through.

100% should have won. Incredible passages of play from us as usual, but again we go away without the three points. What are we doing wrong? Rodriguez and Lambert were incredible today, keep 'em playing I say (leaving Ramirez out), and just fantastic work... but we need to win more games.

Ul the saints!

This - anyone who cant see how this side has come on in tehlast few weeks is missing something - teh speed of pressing, and attack is impressive - yes we still need to work on defending set pieces, but this is starting to p;lay to its potential, even if teh results are not coming quite yet, we will need around 15-16 points form 13 games - I think that is more than doable if we play like this.

I think there is a reason for first half not being so hot - a ploy to conserve energy for second half and press higher up and atack at pace - dangerous, but clear how second half we have far more energy and pace - even against Utd... think teh direction is right and results WILL come.

Results like that relegate teams.

Pathetic defending for both of their goals.

sure does... seeya wigan!

they are goneski!!!!

tis a pity as saints were by far the better side, but seems that even if Jesus H himself was managing the side we will always gift 90 minute goals to the opposition....

overall though was a pretty good performance and i'm pretty happy that we will not be relegated

Boy Shaw will be some player

Did you watch the game? They barely had a kick from 30 mins onwards. Highly frustrating to concede so late again, but I'm impressed with the way we played.

I did, we played bloody brilliantly and scored a great goal to go 2-1 up on 85 mins.

We still didn't win. That's why this is a very bad result. Not a bad performance, but a bad result. That's not going to do the players confidence much cop either.

Thought we did well. As well as our two goals we hit the post and their keeper made an astonishing save from the ricochet off Morgan. We also had at least one reasonable shout for a penalty. Disappointed to draw in the end but it leaves us about where we were.

No real need for some of the histrionics on here. I can#'t be bothered to read any more.

I see this one as a step back if I'm honest. Deflated as anything at the moment.

We will not get many more game slike this, where the oppo are so ****. Wigan were hopeless, were dominated, yet we still didn't win.

I'm so cheesed off because with the other results, we are right back in the **** with 2 tough games coming up.

This was our chance to pull away, but we've been pulled back.

Agree - this is the first time since west brom that I have thought we will go down as other teams are gaining points right now but we are losing them despite playing well according to most

why...all well and good but we aint winning at all.....

Looking at the overall performances and the remaining fixtures, there's nothing to panic about. After the City match we have a run of winnable games. Whether we do so or not is another matter. Got to put more of our chances away and have to defend set pieces far better. Let's hope Forren can offer an improvement and the Yoshi was just having an off day.

Really encouraging performance. Great spirit, determination and skill. Let down by two bits of sloppy defending. Yoshida lost Caldwell and then misjudged the flight of the ball from the corner kick. Shaw, who had an otherwise excellent game, played them on for their equaliser by not coming out with the rest of the defence.

As I predicted on the build-up thread, our failure to sign a dominant CB ABLE TO PLAY IN THIS MATCH has cost us dearly.

I am still not in the 'we will definitely go down camp' but neither am I in in the 'we will definitely stay up' camp. It is very much in the balance. And all because we didn't get that CB or a replacement for Puncheon. (J-Rod will prob be Punch's replacement in the team, but that retracts from his other uses.)

I would not be surprised if we are back in the bottom 3 in a couple of weeks

This was one of our easiest games between now and the end of the season. Teams at the bottom are starting to be very competitive barring QPR. Worried and looking down rather than up. Lord I hope we don't regret this silly manager nonsense.

No game is easy, and historically a game away at Wigan in the second half of the season is always going to be difficult. Can't see what Pochettino has done wrong yet, his substitutions have been positive and changed the game in our favour every time. I would not be at all surprised to see us beat Citeh at St Marys. Games like this are what make football exciting. The whinging bedwetters ought to pack it in and find another sport, or feck off and support Man United.

It's frustrating but keep the faith. We played really well and defensive lapses cost us. We still have Forren and Fonte to come into defence and Lallana to come in for Puncheon hopefully. The performances are there and we will turn these draws into wins soon enough.

gutted :(

Playing well and losing is not the way to stay up.

I think we will stay up, but something's got to change.

Everton were awful and we failed to score at home.

SAF's compliments meant nothing to me.

Now this - a terrible result with 2 points dropped.

Of course we'll never know we would have won this and Everton with NA at the helm,

but all the indications such as form suggest it.

It's early days still, but after 3 games I don't see any evidence that MP is a good choice.
