Average player but quite versatile and a good pro with a composure about himself.

Played RB in his first game and dominated Ginola I think?

A bit one paced up front, to think we had success with him and Beattie as a partnership is quite funny. Very slow.

Always liked Tessem, but as a Norwegian, I'm a bit biased. Also, he did a fantastic job as manager for Totton & Eling, winning the league with 100 points.

Always seemed to pop up with an important goal and became a bit of a cult hero. Good squad player.

Not sure how he would survive in todays Prem.

Really liked him as an attacking midfielder, not a big fan of him when he played up top though. That said he did score some important goals for us. Remember his run from the halfway line when we beat Everton in Hoddles last game, or the last minute winner against Sunderland at SMS.

Good honest pro who worked hard for the team and made the most of his ability, liked him alot without ever really thinking he was anything special.

Fantastic player, always a favourite of mine... and always sensed a greater goal threat whenever he was brought on late on when we were chasing a game.

See Saint Charlie, instead of b*tching about who "stole my idea" (an uber-creative, extremely original, groundbreaking, earth-shattering idea nonetheless) I merely responded to the ongoing thread with my thoughts on a player, and moved on.

Stop crying over spilt milk ffs. Honestly some folks like yourself and Dig Dig need to grow up and stop taking life so seriously.

didnt he miss an absolute sitter at OT at the end in that 3-3 game...that would have probably won us the game..?

Sunderland away, right in front of us. Dean Richards had scored the equaliser at 2-2 only moments before that...

You gave up too easily IMO, I was willing to back you all the way (well until your 3rd post of the day anyway). We could have taken him. Just get up really early each day with an old Panini sticker book and your away.

always like dthe fact you could find him around kicking out time in any kebab shop in bedford place on a saturday night, fag in mouth.....

this.

pre-season friendly at Gillingham, cursory first half and rolled off at half time. Second half hevappeared down the front of the away fans terraces, saints kit on, sweat shirt round his shoulders, flip flops on and fag in hand.chatted with him for a good 10 minutes, top bloke and in his own way a decent player for us. He used to be a policeman too.

You are like a little stain on this forum. St Charlie is a hero for what he's done.

P.s Tessem was quite good.

very mixed opinions on a player I always felt was the perfect utility player.

Arriving in Nov 1999, he started off at RB, and later moved up to right MF, letting in Jason Dodd to the full back place.

He managed 4 goals in each of his first two seasons, and his 6'3" height made him a very useful asset as an extra attacker.

He eventually moved over to take the no.11 shirt upon the arrival of (Glenn Hoddle's purchase) Dan Petrescu, (though that was short-lived). The introduction of Marsden and Delap meant he dropped down the pecking order, but he still did a good job when coming off from the bench and secured points in 1-1 draws in away games v. Sunderland ...and at Arsenal, when we saw the now legendary photo of him out-jumping FOUR Arsenal defenders to head home an 80th minute equaliser.

There was little chance of him gaining any of the regular shirts, after the arrival of Fernandes, Anders Svensson and the consistent performances from Matt Oakley. IMHO he was a better player than many gave him credit for, but got criticism from some fans, when filling in for injured James Beattie on several occasions, but not being able to replicate JB's goal-scoring form.

Whilst never being regarded as a class Prem. player, he suffered the fate of many " utility " players, in that he willingly played anywhere he was asked, but then lost sympathy with those who never quite saw him as a first team regular.

Certainly, as a midfielder ...his goal tally was quite reasonable - especially when compared with some of the others around him, and his goals often secured points for wins, as well as some other drawn games (as above).

He used to hire a squash court at Fleming Park for 2 hours and just spend the time hit the ball as hard as he could and working on his control.

The Monday evening before the cup final he was on his own on the astro turf just doing drills with a ball, I got the impression he just wanted to lap up the euphoria that was surrounding the city at the time.

Good honest pro who made the most of the ability he had.
