ericofarabia Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 WTF was it with all the stalls outside Old Trafford selling half Man U, Half Saints scarfs? Presumably it's for the benefit for all the Once a lifetime Man Ure tourist fan visit to OT to be able to buy as a keepsake, although I did see Saints fans buying them as well FFS!! I'm expecting to see Fergie wearing one drapped over his shoulders next time he is interviewed after his gushing praise about us. Must admit to being impressed with the fact that there weren't any queues at OT for the beers or toilets and the view and and easy going stewarding (no sit down crap) made it a friendly night out. But without us to make any sort of atmosphere the place would have been like a morgue. Also can''t they afford a scoreboard, or announce who scored? Finally the pitch is an absolute shambles. Can't blame Fergie for moaning about it, both sides suffered from it. Also the queue for The Metro - anybody get stranded due missing enroute connections? Luckily for me Mrs EoA was still in Trafford Centre and came and picked me up. Any way back on track, will there be hordes of stalls selling half Saints half Wigan scarfs to mark our 1st ever league match that Wigan have hosted us? Will they give a free pie with each purchase?
Saint Garrett Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 It's not just there. I've seen half + half scarves at QPR, Villa and WHU this season.
Saint-scooby Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Would you wear half Saints half Pompey ?????????? nah
JPTCount Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 why does it bother you so much that some people are willing to spend £5 on a memento...?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 I saw them at QPR, the strange thing is the guy seemed to have thousands left at the end of the match. What the ***** was he going to do with them all?
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Would you wear half Saints half Pompey ?????????? nahOnly with the blue section between my ars* cheeks. ;-)
Barry Sanchez Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 It is a sign of the times, plastic everywhere, no colours for me, no christmas trees allowed.
ericofarabia Posted 1 February, 2013 Author Posted 1 February, 2013 why does it bother you so much that some people are willing to spend £5 on a memento...? A fiver? Didn't realise they'd be that cheap. as momentos go a programme and ticket stub should suffice though.
Lets B Avenue Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 A fiver? Didn't realise they'd be that cheap. as momentos go a programme and ticket stub should suffice though. I'm up for a game of "Where's Eric?" tomorrow.
suewhistle Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 I'm up for a game of "Where's Eric?" tomorrow. Is he wearing a red and white stripy jumper?
ericofarabia Posted 1 February, 2013 Author Posted 1 February, 2013 Is he wearing a red and white stripy jumper? Close!! Red And White Tea Towel /arabic head dress round my neck for ericoarabia.
max_saints Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 I saw them at QPR, the strange thing is the guy seemed to have thousands left at the end of the match. What the ***** was he going to do with them all? next season when we face each other in the championship he can bring them out again
VectisSaint Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Half and half scarves have been around for years, makes no sense to me, cannot ever imagine wearing such a thing. Half Saints home and half Saints away maybe, red and white one end, white and red the other, I've always had one of those LOL
This Charming Man Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Anyone found wearing a half and half scarf should be dragged onto the pitch at half time and executed. Simple as that.
Mattio Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 The queue for the metro is always atrocious after a match at OT, I'm amazed they've not done anything about it tbh
SNOWY Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Who remembers the "half Rangers or Celtic" phase in the 80's.
Saint Garrett Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 I saw them at QPR, the strange thing is the guy seemed to have thousands left at the end of the match. What the ***** was he going to do with them all? I noticed when I was at QPR that they have the reverse fixtures date on them, so you can use them again for one match ! ha they're a joke I don't know why ANYONE would buy one.
Mowgli Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Lol. I wannt to be a Kenilworth Road when they do the half and half scraves with Millwall before the cup game. Actually, I must confess I do have a half and half scarf somewhere.... ...I needed sometihng to keep me dry(ish) in Bucharest in all that rain!! Hopefully that confession will not warrant an immediate forum ban....
Dr Who? Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Normally for European nights, but I cannot see the Man U v Liverpool ones catching on to well!
Turkish Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 Only an utter plum would buy one of these. FACT
Huffton Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 I never get involved in the 'what you should and shouldn't wear at football' threads, mostly as I am very easy going. Wear what you want, it doesn't affect me in the slightest, and I think no less of someone dressed in a full replica kit than I do some Danny Dyer wannabe (even if am laughing at you inwardly), however this: Anyone found wearing a half and half scarf should be dragged onto the pitch at half time and executed. Simple as that. should be the law, and would be far better half time entertainment than a bloody relay race!
dickyhale Posted 1 February, 2013 Posted 1 February, 2013 It's not just there. I've seen half + half scarves at QPR, Villa and WHU this season. Plus Liverpool and Man City (the kid buys one each time for a fiver)
Dalek2003 Posted 2 February, 2013 Posted 2 February, 2013 Nothing wrong with collecting scarfes, but if you are going to do it, wouldn't you just buy a proper opposition scarf before putting it neatly away in your knap sack ? Anyway, Manure scarfes can be bought anywhere, including Sperrings on New Milton High Street.
Tony F Posted 2 February, 2013 Posted 2 February, 2013 And they were there for £5 at Chelsea away - complete with the match date (so no reuse value). I guess they are really for tourists who have got hold of a Prem ticket as part of a tour package - seems that its mostly the clubs in the larger cities that do this. So while you might be surprised to see them at "football minnow outfits" like QPR (but nonetheless a London club) you can be pretty sure you won't see any at Wigan, or Reading (or indeed Southampton)...
Fan The Flames Posted 2 February, 2013 Posted 2 February, 2013 Who remembers the "half Rangers or Celtic" phase in the 80's. Yes the square panel hats were de rigueur for a few pre prem seasons. I had a Saints Celtic one.
SNOWY Posted 2 February, 2013 Posted 2 February, 2013 Yes the square panel hats were de rigueur for a few pre prem seasons. I had a Saints Celtic one. They weren't just worn by scarfers either.I think it started with the Chelsea/Rangers love in at the time?
