Newcastle have very astuciously exploited the forthcoming tax rise for very high earners in France. A player who was on say 35K a week in France would soon be taxed out of existence, receiving probably somewhere around 13K a week at the end of the day. They've no doubt sold players lesser basic deals and better bonuses. Very astute work. Come the summer French players will be trying to play in the UK for a couple of bob a week because that's all Hollande's tax systems will leave them.
