Would you take a point at Wigan if offered now?

Just watched some highlights from their Stoke game. Absolutely BATTERED them second half. On-form and on-song at the moment. And let's be honest - if we ever had a "bogey team" Wigan is it. Can't see us not scoring but reckon they might just have too much in attack for us. :(

Give us a point now I'd say.

Evidently a point is better than nothing but I feel that if we can beat them and Everton beat Villa we are almost home and dry on the relegation front.

I thought you were being serious until I got to this bit.

I wouldn't take a point now, I would be happy enough if that was the result but I think this game is winnable.

absolutely not...we havent won enough games and we need to get these wins....beat these and it will give us almost one foot on survival if many ofthe other games go our way...especially if everton beat villa and either reading or QPR fail to win

sooner or later we are going to have to rack up about 4 wins......everytime we take a draw, it puts pressure to get these wins from less (and harder) games

Definitely not. We need wins and 3 points will be better than had we drawn at OT and then at Wigan. Partly what may have done for poor old Nigel is that being unbeaten for a while is all very well but it doesn't deliver enough points if you aren't winning games along the way. Can't see MP being content with a draw going by his positive approach at OT, but we do need the front players to find their shooting boots again as some of the recent efforts have been looking a bit weak, Puncheon and Lambert at Chelsea excepted!

To get to 40 points we need another 17. So that is pretty much 5 wins and a few draws.

Looking at our fixtures we got these left

Wigan (A) - possible win

Citeh (H) - points are a bonus

Newcastle (A) - points are a bonus

QPR (H) - possible win

Norwich (A) - possible win

Liverpool (H) - points are a bonus

Chelsea (H) - points are a bonus

Reading (A) - possible win

West Ham (H) - possible win

Swansea (A) - points are a bonus

West Brom (H) - possible win

Spurs (A) - points are a bonus

Sunderland (A) - possible points

Stoke (H) - possible points

While we could get points at some of those I think realisticly some are worth not banking on i.e Newcastle and Swansea. Our away record isn't that great.

The must get something/win games are Wigan/QPR/Norwich/Reading/West Ham/West Brom. Both West Ham and West Brom have just a poor record as we do away so we should be taking advantage of that. Plus Wigan,West Ham and Norwich are in freefall. All have 5 points from the last 8 games. Win those 6 games and we stay up. So at Wigan I think we need the win because a draw or loss there means we need a win somewhere else. And looking at the fixtures I would rather not have to play Citeh/Spurs/Chelsea/Liverpool/Newcastle needing a result.

We were playing man u! Everyone must have thought at half time we would lose by a lot more than the 2-1 score line.

I said on the match thread that i expected a reaction/response in the 2nd half after such a poor first 45 - i had faith when others didnt (thats typical of glasgow saint)

United were very poor 2nd half and we played well........ But united still had the best chances, had a goal disallowed and Boruc made a world class save to keep score down

I think we're better than Newcastle and will be disappointed if we come away from there with nothing.

Agree we are a better team. But right now they have a better home record then we do. And over the past 8 games we have only got 1 point more then them. As I said in my post I would rather not have to go there and win. We have a really bad record there. One win since 1997. Only two wins in the last 20 years.

Absolutely not. It's all well and good saying how well we've been playing, but we've not been winning games. Anything less than a win would suggest we're not cut out for this league. I fully expect a decent performance and a win.

We play UTD off the park and yet our fans start saying they'd take a point before the Wigan game? This is a game we have to win to ensure the new manager doesn't take too long to get his first win. One would suggest three points will not be forthcoming against City either.

City weren't great against QPR and with the number of their players that will be involved in Internationals next midweek I can see us getting something from that game. Without Touré and Kompany they looked pretty clueless.

K Davis, J Hooiveld, D Fox, J Fonte, N Clyne, S Davis (J Ward-Prowse, 75), A Lallana, M Schneiderlin, R Lambert, G Do Prado, J Rodriguez (B Sharp, 76)

That was the team we played early in the season when they beat us 2-0 at St Mary's.

Several things have changed since then. Although Fonte had improved since then, he's out. But Yoshida is a more than capable deputy. The biggest improvement though, is the arrival back from injury of Cork. Neither Puncheon nor Ramirez played. Boruc appears to be an improvement now on Davis. Shaw is infinitely better than Fox. Clyne is much improved too.

Taken together with the improvement brought about with the replacement to Adkins for somebody possessing tactical genius ;) and endorsed by the likes of Mourinho and Guardiola, there is no way that we should accept anything less than a resounding win.

Im hoping for at least 4 or 5 .... oh points, thought it said pints!!

3 pts minimum, but end of day wouldn't be the end of the world maintaining the status quo so long as other results go our way.

Personally though I want to see us tear them a new one and have plenty of goals to celebrate!!

No, I would not take a point. This is a massive 6 pointer. Win, and the latter part of the season will be a lot more comfortable. I'd take a possible defeat for the chance we can beat Wigan - play like we did in the second half against UTD and we'll win. Simple as.

3 points for Saints.

Play like we did in the first half against United on the other hand....
