Are we saying Marian Pahars at his best would get in our side these days? I'm not sure he would.

I would say so...at his best...hell yes...would have him right side of an attack..

but we played a different system then...pahars in his pomp was a very dangerous premier league striker who was capable of moments of brilliant skill too

Yes but the Premier League then is quite different to the Premier League now.

When he was good, he was very very good, when he was bad he was awful. Yes he scored some great and vital goals in his early years, but in his later life at the club he was a waste of space. All except for the 20 mins or so and his goal vs. Pompey.

IMHO we spent too long waiting for him to get fit and that was very disruptive at a crucial time. We'd have been better of getting someone else in and saving his wages because he was a right malingerer.

We made a similar mistake with M. Svensson - albeit his injury was genuine.

Course he would, he's be brilliant down the right side. Pace, skill. Was a class player when he was fully fit.

I must say I never saw him in his glory years, but it just occurs to me that the Premier League has evolved so he might look as good now. Just speculating.

Was thinking this the other day. It says a lot about the state of the Club back then that we gave him so many chances and waited as long as we did. With hindsight it was perfectly obvious he'd never come back anywhere near his best, if at all.

It also says a lot about how good both these players were when fit and at their best

Watched the Pompey game the other night and just kept waiting to see his goal

For a little guy he scored a lot of headers
