Transfer Deadline Day Thread

Saint Scott

Recommended Posts

Once again the transfer window has not thrown up any real shocks, about time they stopped this stupid system. As for Saints what players did we want in that would make that much of a difference? I think the squad, and with current standing in the Premiership, is more than capable of staying up. There are a few more teams worse than us to get relegated. The summer is the time to make your signings and have time to bed them in.

Redkrapp has splashed the cash, as per normal, and again I think he will fook up, and take another team down,

What annoys people... Is hearing players going on about such mahoosive plans that te club have.... Champions league etc... Then we get rid of a manager for an apparent better one, then the chairman talks about top 6 in a few years

Then, nothing.....

It is so tight at the bottom... I thought we would have added a bit of quality this evening.... But nothing... Remain sceptical about our chances of survival

Today is 100% consistent with that.

Now is not time to buy top 6 level players is it?

Not aimed at you but find this fantasy football approach wanting new names for sake of it is immature.

My predictions are good.... Said all season, even when bottom in November, we will be safe before last weekend. Relax and enjoy it!!

Saints spent over £35m on players this season, the last game saw them outplay Man Utd at Old Trafford with 21 shots on goal. Yet people complain! :D

Not too surprised really.

Glad we've got Forren in - that was always the key slot to add to.

Slightly odd putting de Ridder out on loan with no replacement.

Reeves to Southend makes some sense as he is unlikely to get any serious playing time here.

Barnard and Forte are just shuffling players who won't play here again.

All in all, quite pleased with the quality and even the depth of the squad.

Of course, with a string of injuries we look weaker, but there are only 14 games left and we're not far from a fully fit squad. We have very acceptable cover for virtually every position, with the possible exception of left back. (but even there, we will probably play Shaw for all but c. 180 mins of the remainder of the season)

I'm disappointed we didn't sign anyone but a bit more concerned about the full back positions than anything else as I think we're lacking decent back-up in those areas. However, especially because of the young age of our first choice full backs, I think these will be tricky spots to fill. Who's going to want to sit behind two guys who could possibly be playing in those positions for years to come? I think moving forward we may see more academy players filling in here of needed, especially at right back.

I'd have loved an exciting creative player in but I don't think it's an area that requires urgent attention. We have SRL, Rodriguez, Lee and Mayuka that could play as central striker and Lallana, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Puncheon, Lee, Mayuka, JWP, Guly and Davis that could play AM. Admittedly at the moment not enough goal threat is coming from the AM positions but unless anyone significantly better than what we have is available, we weren't going to buy players for this position. Out of those players that can fill the AM positions Lallana and Puncheon have been amongst our best players this season, JWP has done OK when he's played and fits the club model, and Mayuka, Davis and Rodriguez are all new purchases this season.

Our lack of Prem experience means that many of these players needed to learn on the job. Not all players, especially those from other leagues, acclimatise quickly. For every Michu there are plenty who take longer to make an impact. I imagine, looking at our purchases, that the club were willing to take that gamble and find it unlikely that they are willing to write off these players as quickly as some on here.

Not too bothered, the last thing we want is to sign players we don't really need and if the ones we were interested in didn't happen for whatever reason then so be it.

Not forgetting that we did actually sign a highly rated international CB.

The squad should be good enough to stay in this league and that is the only benchmark for the season.

I had a good lol at Harry hanging Odemwhinger out to dry this morning, "I don't know why he done that, what a very silly boy." Nothing to do with you tapping him up brah?

Someone just phoned in talksport (a Baggie fan I think) and slated redknapp for blatant tapping up. He was dismissed and the presenters said arry was just answering questions to the live situation.

I concur with much of what Saint Bobby has said - getting a CB was top priority and we got one, a left sided one at that. Admirable as Jos's recent efforts have been, you just a have a feeling that there's an OG around the corner. Mind you, I think (or hope) Kone's still at the ACON as he caused us all sorts of problems in August. Would have liked a winger but I have a feeling MP might get a bit more out of Mayuka and that would be like a new signing as we've hardly seen anything of him (and you can't draw anything from the Sunderland display because Messi or RVP would have struggled we were that poor).

QPR are reckless, typical Harry. Not surprised his media contacts are protecting him and it gives them a break from brown-nosing Nigel Farage.

Reading manager Brian McDermott has confirmed the player the club made a record bid for was former Royals midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. McDermott said: "We tried to bring him back. We had spoken to Spurs and we made three offers. I thought at one stage we had a real chance of doing a deal, but unfortunately, we couldn't manage to do it."

He's quality, glad they didn't get him.

How To Troll Ur Chairman

Gillingham boss Martin Allen left a phone message for his chairman Paul Scally about a Premier League club making an offer for one of their players.

"Mr Scally called my mobile 1.7 seconds later asking who it was and which club it was? I let him know it was from Lewes (Ryman Premier). The phone line went dead and I must say I laughed and laughed and laughed."

Laughs a lot then, probably has only just stopped laughing over the 2.2 million quid he rooked us for Gazza.

Blimey, turks me old mukka.

100% with you on this one.

Interesting that a fair few of the same people calling for more transfers (as they do EVERY SINGLE WINDOW) are also the ones that wanted Adders to go, and are now also moaning about that.

I did not want Adkins to be sacked in the manner that he was and I wanted more transfers to happen.

Brave man. I wonder if he'll still be laughing when his Chairman publicly gives him a "vote of confidence." :D

At the end of this window, SFC are looking a proper Premier League club again. There has been no panic buys, which are apparent in other places. QPR is reminiscent of the panic buying when 'Arry was here and despite his 5 buys in January that year, he failed to avoid relegation. Our new manager appears confident in himself, calm and most important, confident in the quality of his squad. The loan of SDR, who had been on the fringe of the first team is also promising as it suggests that Pochettino doesn't see him as good enough for Saints.

Obviously we need to get more points on the board by winning games as well as just not losing too many, but its very hard to imagine us being in the relegation dog fight given the way the team is playing, and with the weakness at CB now resolved.

or telling Odem , and his agent, where the brown envelope was hidden !

That really is a p1ss poor episode, the player seemingly forgetting how his club rescued him from his "racist torment" as the media portrayed it,in signing him from Moscow.

Odemwinge probably believed the Sun when they said that he was signing for QPR for 4 million £, Sun's never wrong right ?

Probably picked up his morning paper, read that he was signing for QPR that very day and thought "F*** me I'd better get myself down there then, only pausing to send a bunch of flowers to lady Di on Mustique and buy a wedding present for Elsie Tanner.

Even though we only signed one player, I reckon January 2013 is still better than January 2005. IN:

Olivier Bernard

Henri Camara (loan)

Nigel Quashie

Jamie Redknapp

Calum Davenport (loan)

..that really was 'arry at his worst - wasn't it?

More money down the drain. Lowe must have flipped to give him the OK on that lot.

OK There was a good goal from Camara (as I recall) ..and a few 45 mins. apps from Jamie.....but most of the others wouldn't make the "where are they now " column.

Davenport was the worst of the lot. One of the poorest players I have ever seen play for us. LOwe was geting lots of flak for interfering with transfers and probably bought into Arrys myth that he is the best wheeler and dealer there is. Well he dealt us into relegation.
