On the Man Utd Fans Forum, this quote says what the Man Utd fans are saying

that felt like one of the hardest matches of the season but looking back it seems most of our games this season end like that. totally imploded in the second half. at least with Rio and Vidic we have great defence and DDG seems to pull out the saves when you need him to

Any "it was their cup final" quotes?

c**ts

Haha funnily enough, yeah, on redcafe. About 15-20% gave saints credit, the others just blamed the pitch, said they were poor (nothing to do with saints being good) etc.

That said, when they engage their brains they're not a bad bunch tbh. Quite knowledgeable.

Yeah, lucky for us we played on a better pitch.....

Fans saying they under-performed rather than giving us credit. Seems to be a regular occurrence!

Exactly what we did when we were battering people in L1 and the NPC. Still freaks me out people get so stressed by that, we did exactly the same a year ago. As for the "cup final" comment one of ours made a few posts up, lol, I used to say that EVERY home game in lower leagues, fact is its the truth. Roy Keanes autobiography is amazing, one of the best quotes is something like:

I play for united, the biggest club in the world, when I train I train to win, I want every header, tackle, assist and goal to be mine, traing, match, cup final, league whatever, I want it all. Sometimes we play smaller teams and their players step up a level against us, I pity them. Why step up for 2,3,4 games a season? Why get out of bed for that? They will always play for the Coventrys, Palaces and Southamptons of this world as they can only be bothered against us, but to be us you have to be bothered every minute of every day. That's my united".

Truth hurts sometimes admittedly and I wouldn't level this at our current squad, but credit where it's due Man U and Fergie are a piece of work.

Is this why he did so well in management?

What a knob. You should never pity those who have made different life choices to yourself. Just makes you come across as an arrogant cuck.

Didn't mention him being anything other that what you've described - I don't get your point???? Don't think I mentioned him in the context of wanting to be his mate, have him over for tea or to phone up and discuss X Factor or anything? He's a winner, and plays for a club full of winners. Unlikeable yeah, so what? You think Keane gave a s*** what people thought of him when he dragged United through to the European Cup final in the 2nd leg of the Semi in Turin even though he was banned for the final? He couldn't give a f***, he just wanted his club to get to Barcelona. His job was done then, didn't see him being mr "I'm everyone's mate, pass me a kit for the photo session with the cup" like John Terry? Players like Keane, Neville, Scholes, Schmeicheal (sic), Giggs etc put the effort in 100% of the time, on and off the pitch, they are at the end of the "Cup finals" of smaller teams every week, just as we thought we "arrogantly" were in the lower leagues. Football needs winners like that, winners don't need mates or people on noddy forums wanting to be their mates.

FWIW as I mentioned in my previous post I think this squad is a lot better drilled in that respect than the squads of the 90's and 00's. We go for every game and win the games against teams around or below us far more consistently whilst still putting up a quality showing against the bigger sides.

Probably the opposite in management which, I think, proves my point. He was training with inferior players and expected similar standards to those set by Fergie and Cloughy. Players at those clubs weren't of the "United mentality" which made Keane's blood boil and led to him falling out with players.

The same character trait that made him a great player at great clubs led to him being a bad manager. Similar to Hoddle imo, he couldn't get his head around why players didn't have the same passing/ vision in much the same way Keane couldn't understand why a pro footballer wouldn't dedicate their every waking moment to being and improving at being a pro footballer.

Agreed. I actually thought it was one of the best autobiographies I've read. People may hate Keane, but he worked REALLY hard to get where he got to and people may hate Man Utd and Sir Alex, but Keane is right - there is something about that team (well, Fergie) that makes players play to their very best every week.

He could easily have described his commitment and dedication, which most acknowledge, without belittleing (sic) others. His antics after they relegated us are a case in point. He's the personification of arrogance.
