Paul Telfer

For me he was decent at RB and always did a solid if unspectacular job.

In midfield he didn't offer a lot, was very one-paced and didn't have a great deal of quality.

The stick he used to get was unwarranted though, he never let anyone down and the goal vs Newcastle was class.

A talentless scottish plodder who also was a model professional, which have made him able to have a active career as a talentless scottish plodder for 25 years.

Decent summary. Strachan also used to say he was the fittest member of the squad which obviously links to the professionalism and helped him make the best of his limited abilities.

Apparantly a top notch golfer though, and always seemed a decent bloke.

A model pro and unfairly castigated when we were relegated.

Not the most talented of players but he always played a part, quietly getting on with things and doing the job to the best of his ability. He wasn't the reason we went down. If players such as Davenport, Bernard, Delap and Beattie (Yes, the muffin man) had shown even half his desire, professionalism and willing that year we would have survived.

That he went on to play for Celtic in the knock out stages of the Champions League shows that he was a player we could have benefited from in the Championship.

As Lawrie Mac always said "A good team is made up of Violinists and Roadsweepers" without a doubt Telfer was a road-sweeper in that analogy. Took a very professional approach to his career, hence why he was so fit, I always thought he did alright for us and we have had far worse.

Use to know a bloke through work who was a massive Coventry fan, and knew Telfer socially, he said Telfer never talked about football when they were out together either at a party or when they were out to dinner just with their Wives.

This. A perfectly decent right back and more than adequate cover at right mid when needed.

I've played a lot of golf with Paul, he's a very good player. He won the Stoneham Club Championship a couple of years ago which is a good victory with the players they have there.

See Toke's?

Open goal.

ignored

Paul Telfer was a good solid player for us. Far better than many others who occupied the RB slot in the years after he left.

Was it the Man United home game in 03/04 that Telfer played out of position in centre midfield and ended up playing a blinder? Beattie with a 90th minute header to win it.

He kept Roy Keane very quiet that day if I remember correctly.

Liked him. A team player who would play wherever asked to. Think he scored against Newcastle in a last home game of the season ?

his lob against newcastle (last day of the season??) in the closing minutes sticks with me, think it was also the same game tahar el kalej stopped dyer from going to the WC.

very nice goal that.

60Clicks Dyer the spawny little scrote did himself in that day, he rolled over so many times you would have thought he had been rolled off the edge of Portsdown hill (apologies for the bad language) in an effort to make sure Tahar was sent off.
