Mayuka Playing Today

Zambia have their final group game vs Burkina Faso.

Also in the group is Ethiopia v Nigeria.

Current table is:

Burkina Faso P2 GD4 P4

Nigeria P2 GD0 P2

Zambia P2 GD0 P2

Ethiopia P2 GD-4 P1

If Zambia lose they will be knocked out and a draw might not be enough assuming Nigeria don't lose to Ethiopia. Would be good for Saints to have him back as another option for Saturday.

Both games are 5pm UK kick off.

He is still very young but clearly has some good attributes.

Hard to read anything into his performances for three reasons:

1. He is lacking game time and probably confidence this season

2. The standard of supply is so poor

3. The pitches are horrible and hard to play and good footy on.

Agreed, but he didn't do anything of note in the second match either. Did I get the bold thing right?

He's looked good so far today. Sharp, nippy, a few good passes and crosses and very good movement off the ball, hope he doesn't get crocked on this pitch.

Didnt realise it was on Eurosport!

I watched it on a stream, yes it was a eurosport one. One of the ads at half time was a joke airline thing, featuring kobe bryant and lionel messi trying to outsmart each other, and the final tagline was TURKISH AIRLINES.

ffs, he gets everywhere.

Mayuka had a decent game, I thought. Made one particularly good defensive mopping-up job in the 2nd half, as well as looking very useful on the break.

Shouldn´t be allowed to play football on pitches like that...

Agreed it was rubbish. Then again I thought Mayuka was rubbish, Zambia were rubbish, Burkina Faso defended well enough because it's all they needed to do and grosso modo the whole competition is rubbish. Poor refs, players playing well below their standard and very little public in the grounds. Once every 4 years should be enough for this "triste spectacle". 3 times in 4 years is just far too often.

So, good news that Mayuka is on his way back to help the Southampton cause.

The bad news is that, based on the past 2 matches and 10 mins from the first, I haven't seen anything to suggest he will be all that much help to us.

I really want him to be a success for Saints, but I can see why he hasn't played much for us thus far.

The taters pointed out that theres a severe water shortage in that area, hence the awful pitch. Priorities, and all that.

Ok, didn´t hear that on my broadcast and makes it somewhat understandable but I guess they sjould know what kind of climate they have there in January....

Well well, it´s sad for the tournaments sake cause that one can be quite entertaining usually....

Shame for him he's coming back - from what I have seen of him, he isn't good enough to play for us in the Premiership. Come to think of it, from what I've seen of him he wouldn't be good enough to play for us in the Championship if we were to get relegated! So, maybe it's a shame for us he is coming back too!

That having been said, I hope that having had some game time out there maybe he can come back and prove me wrong! :)

So far he has looked to be a bloody great waste of £3m. No idea who is responsible but someone needs to take some bloody responsibility here.

You both didn't goto the Tottenham game then? When he game on, played on the right of a 4-2-3-1 system, he turned the game towards us and made a big difference. Tottenham couldn't handle him running down their left.

He has hardly been given a chance in terms of game time and starts, he is still only 22 and has a lot of potential imo.

I go to every game Matthew. I'm pleased to see that one supppsedly half decent performance is enough for the happy clappies to be convinced he's better than Messi. I must have missed his goal.

So recognising he played well against Spurs and not writing him off after half a dozen sub appearances makes you happy clappy now? It must be depressing being you!

Care to summarise his total contribution to the cause so far? He's made more of a ripple on Facebook than he has in the Premiership. To think we signed someone of his 'calibre' before giving Lee the game time he clearly deserves is nothing short of criminal.

:?

So Lee deserves game time based on his pretty average (but limited) performances so far to replace Mayuka who has also been average based on limited performances so far.

Makes a lot of sense.

We have some odd fans.

He's had 167 minutes of football for us spread out over 6 games. He's managed a decent cameo against Spurs and won a penalty against Villa, enough to show he's no Ali Dia. Not enough to write him off though or to be automatically replaced by a guy that has managed 7 championship games for us and few cup appearances.

Lee has scored a goal. Mayuka hasn't. Pretty simple really.

Where has anyone said that he's better than Messi?
