Bananaman Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Loved him... absolutely loved his commitment and passion.. but he was kinda ****e and way too slow for a RB (also wasnt there a pic of him during a routine medical looking like he was cut from stone.. he got himself in really god shape!)... no homo
a1ex2001 Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Good hard working professional who made up for his lack of absolute class with commitment and enthusiasm, liked him when he played for us and was disapointed when he left.
Pancake Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Loved him... absolutely loved his commitment and passion.. but he was kinda ****e and way too slow for a RB (also wasnt there a pic of him during a routine medical looking like he was cut from stone.. he got himself in really god shape!)... no homo
Saint Charlie Posted 29 January, 2013 Author Posted 29 January, 2013 He became a cult hero, but not really because he was any good.
Thedelldays Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 wasnt there a game when someone actually took him out good and proper..he just got up and laughed at said player..? thought he was pretty decent...one of the better ones in that mini era...never gave anything less than 100% and was a decent player too...
Spudders Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 (also wasnt there a pic of him during a routine medical looking like he was cut from stone.. he got himself in really god shape!)... no homo Fortunate that Pancake had this pic set as his screensaver!
Pancake Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Fortunate that Pancake had this pic set as his screensaver! Too ****ing right matey. #buff
alpine_saint Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Was very kind to my kids when he met them at one of the open days.
saints-cris Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Always liked him, not the best but could never fault his commitment.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 I liked the guy. Thought he did a decent job, and can't fault the guy's effort. Enjoyed the "Jesus, give us a wave" chant.
PaulSaint Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 He became a cult hero, but not really because he was any good. (Cough) Benali
SuperSAINT Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Loved him. Proper cult figure back during the dark days.
Andre Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 He was a decent player. Served us well. Can't complain.
Baird of the land Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Poor player. Didn't need to sign him either as we had Bairdy at the time who just hadn't been given a chance by successive managers.
david in sweden Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Spoke with several Swedish fans here (he played for two different Stockholm clubs).... He really was a " character" and everyone liked him, a great competitor but few would agree that he was anywhere near top class.
Elias Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 If everyone played with the same commitment that period of our history wouldn't have been so depressing.
Saint_clark Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 wasnt there a game when someone actually took him out good and proper..he just got up and laughed at said player..? thought he was pretty decent...one of the better ones in that mini era...never gave anything less than 100% and was a decent player too... V West Brom, John Hartson went for the ball at head height with his foot up and caught Ostlund right in the neck with his studs. Ostlund got up almost straight away and (probably because of that) Hartson didn't even get a yellow for what should have been a red.
sandwichsaint Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 Really, really poor player. A headband and an unusual fore name do not a right back make. Kept out Cranie and Baird but guess that was par for us at that time.
GAS Posted 29 January, 2013 Posted 29 January, 2013 I always thought he was useless, totally headless in all aspects of the game.
CylonKing Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 Ostlund is one of my favourite players in all my times supporting Saints (Since 1983\84). Swedish international for many years. 100% committed to the club and gave everything when he played. Remember him dribbling the ball out of defense and went on a run right through the Wolves midfield when we beat them 0-6. Was outstanding in that match. A real character you could get behind (the chants from opposition fans were just hilarious at times - Derby away - "Gypo, Gypo") and much more skillful than he got credit for. Not the best player we've ever had but I appreciated what he did bring to the team. The Hartson incident is on YouTube, Hartson did get a Yellow for the challenge, but was excellent to see a player just get up and carry on with the job at hand.

CylonKing Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 I only know as I watched the incident again last week. Must make sure that only true information gets put onto this forum! ;-)
Saint Charlie Posted 30 January, 2013 Author Posted 30 January, 2013 Big cross-section of opinions on Ostlund.
Lazlo78 Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 He went on to the Danish league and managed 6 appearances in two years because of injuries. If Fox had long hair and a beard they could be footballing twins
Danish Saint Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 Completely useless, as Baird should have been given the chance.
mitch01 Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 Poor player. Didn't need to sign him either as we had Bairdy at the time who just hadn't been given a chance by successive managers. But we played Baird at CB and he was superb there.
OfnPanad Posted 30 January, 2013 Posted 30 January, 2013 I loved this guy - we have had some top fullbacks over the years, haven't we? Either cult heroes or top class. Ostlund I rate 3rd for cult fullback status behind Benali and Ulrich Van Gobbel
