merrimd Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Over the last 2 years we have had to get used to never hearing anything from within saints regarding pretty much anything at all. No transfer news. No injury news. No team news. Nothing. Nada. I always assumed this was 'The Club'. It does now seem to me to have been Nigel's way! From the V man giving us team news 5 hours before kick off, too hearing 2 days before kick off that Guly is out, Fonte is out and Adam may be back. Are we entering a new era of transparency ? Dig Dig Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 May be a temporary measure to create a little transparency in the wake of NA's sacking but I guess only time will tell. Re transfers, not sure if NA geniuenly had up to the minute updates so I guess we'll see if the blackout on injuries was an NA thing.

Window Cleaner Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Perhaps MP is going to play his game and doesn't care what the opposition supposedly don't know about (although they always do).

hypochondriac Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Would Nigel have said Guly was injured 2 days before a game? It wasn't an accusation it was a question. I didn't realise he said that but just saw it. If this is the case then it is a positive as far as I am concerned. I like to hear these things and it was a nonsense to think it gives you an advantage.

If the opposition is doing their research and preparation properly then perhaps. No point making it any easier for them though.

Manchester United routinely gave away more injury information than us. Clearly the countries most successful team felt it didn't really matter. Colinjb Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Ah we must have hit on a tactic they were not aware of. That must be it. I just happen to agree with not doing the opposition's job for them. Just like Team Sky in cycling, tiny improvements in many areas can add up to a big difference. Just like Team Sky in cycling, tiny improvements in many areas can add up to a big difference. And I think that something like that clearly has a negligible difference (as evidenced by no other clubs that I am aware of employing that policy to such a rigorous degree.) Sure hold off on specifics but I think it's just silly when Adam was clearly out for a long time not to let the fans know the state of play. ANyway, it is possible that the new manager may relax this or at least I hope so.

Interesting - the cycling analagy is a very good one - no other teams all use the super fast looking cycling helmets - does that mean GB shouldnt have bothered? Sharktopus Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Interesting - the cycling analagy is a very good one - no other teams all use the super fast looking cycling helmets - does that mean GB shouldnt have bothered? Maybe we should get super fast looking cycling helmets for the team. Might give Lambert that extra yard of pace? It's all about the marginal gains! Plus, the opposition would be falling over in stitches at our ridiculous get up. Win Win!

Are GB not Manchester United in your scenario? I mean GB are the absolute best at cycling and United are the absolute best in the Premiership. Youre right, absolutely they are in terms of are they the best team going which is a fair point - comment was more in response to "as evidenced by no other clubs that I am aware of employing that policy to such a rigorous degree". I was more saying that just cause no one else does something it doesnt mean its wrong. I guess often the best teams could be doing things right but thats certainly not always the case - maybe its this thinking that has got team GB to be equivalent to Man united. Are we entering a new era of transparency ?In the case of Lallana and Fonte would have been diffi ult to say otherwise on the evidence of all the pictures and videos from Barca. AL is clearly in full training, while JF is nowhere to be seen as far as I can tell. Guly though is a different matter, must havepicked up injury during late training, or on flight home. Still, it made Glasgow's day giving him his chance to try to be funny. Now about as funny as Skacel jokes or Dalek promoting Hoddle.
