Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Le Tiss didn't even want freebies, he just wanted to BUY some tickets. I doubt any other club in the land would tell one of their greatest ever players they wouldn't be allowed to buy a few extra tickets. i think you are the one with the clouded judgement if you think that is right. TBH though, I think its just all been blown out of proportion, if Le Tiss had bought tickets infront of regular punters for the sole reason it was UTD. Then there would be the fallout that regular punters would be forgotten about by nobodies. How many tickets did he want aswell ? Why couldnt he just hire a box ? But basically it was as expected, a load of old guff that has put Le Tissiers nose out of joint. Unfortunately untill the time that anything concrete comes out against NC then it will still be guff and MLT will keep letting Saints down in the press
The Kraken Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 In your Opinion... Poncing around corporates may work if you are David Beckham, but LM is sadly not quite the draw any more - becaue you are right, IF he was that big a draw, Cortese whould be paying him... dont let your hatred cloud your judgement... I though most on here said the clubs was the FANS and that they are the only consistent thing, as owners, managers andplayers come and go, only teh fans remain loyal... so which is it to be, that one or the freebies to the exs, whilst loyal fans cant afford a ticket? Actually he is. Or he was up to the point of takeover. He hosted the Ambassadors Suite, the highest end of the Corporate spectrum at St. Mary's. Having experienced it myself it was, all credit, a fantastic experience. And unsurprisingly it was sold out week after week, even in spite of the hundreds of pounds cost. Currently we don't have anything similar, and the corporate areas are a shadow of their former selves (hence the relatively low takeup of them). Frank's cousin Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 wasnt the no freebie thing started from the off...IE, markus was happy with it...? Aye - The problem as I see it stems from the simple fact that before Marcus and NC arrived, the club was financially fecked. For NCs and Markus' perspective looking at the books they will have seen payments to ex managers and freebies here and there and put two and two together - you simply can not do that when a business /club is in serious financial shiete - its is not done in any business - so they simply said STOP - it was not personal, as they did not know the folks benefiting form this, but decided on a a policy of no more freebies and that included themselves... To be fair Matt never made an issue of this and nor to some extent did Lawrie, the MEDIA however saw it as a good story and stuck the boot in and unfortunately Laurie and Matt, when they had the opportunity to agree that it was right to have the same rule top to bottom, sort of went along with it ... and its spiralled as tehse things do - its why I lost all respect for Stelling when he started this ranting.... matt actually looked embarassed there for a moment. FFS If this is the case, then who is today?, because tomorrow never comes and yesterday seems so very very far away. Yes Miltonroader - you have been found wanting as Cortese is both today and tomorrow, whereas MLT is actually the day before yesterday, along with FB, LMcN, AS and a few others. MLT was rightly worshipped as a player as was LMcN as a manager (after his first disasterous half season), but their views on the present running of the club, whilst interesting, are no more valid than anyone elses. Namely that the two men haven't had a sitdown discussion (why should they - I ask myself ?) .....and MLT (who unlike NC seems to enjoy the media attention) is the only one who has been spitting feathers and openly insulting NC, with reported comments like (not a nice human-being). Whether or not they have actually met (more than an anonymous handshake and a greeting - I don't know) but what is clear is that the whole affair is being blown up out of all proportion. Enough has been written about MLT's unique contribution to SFC, but we had to learn to live without him after he kicked his last ball with the club 11 years ago. Likewise media reaction (mostly the Echo - made a big deal over a small issue) with Lawrie McMenemy - a manager who produced teams that entertained us more than any other in my lifetime - before moving on to greener pastures - in Sunderland...(others say he deserted the club). Whatever we think of these people, it was all in the past. Little that any of these gents.(or others) have to say is likely to improve team performance - on the contrary, it only sews the seeds of discontent amongst supporters - and more importantly club personnel and players. We all have different opinions about players, personalities, tactics and even the price of tickets, beer and a pie, but these things should be kept in perspective when we are all (hopefully) most interested in the future performances of the team. Some people seem to have condemned our new manager before he had scarcely fielded a side, on the grounds that no-one (in UK ) had ever heard of him ...which to be fair was plainly ridiculous, as he is well-respected by many in Europe, and just as " unknown foreign players " are suddenly slated as " being useless" - before they've put on a Saints shirt for the first time, and are most often wrong! Times change - teams change and so do managers ... and Chairmen. It might be better if people thought a bit before openly giving criticism to feed the media and creating " strife " just for the sake of it. Minsk Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 It's all very petty. for example, things like Le Tiss not being allowed to buy his mates some Man Utd tickets is petty but still shows a lack of respect to a club legend. It's that lack of respect I don't like and I don't blame Matt one bit for having the hump. Why should MLT be allowed to buy more tickets than anyone else? Who were these tickets for? Saints fans? ManUre fans? Spurs fans? Does it matter who they are/were fans of? To my mind yes, if they were to be bought tickets ahead of Saints fans. And, if they were paying Saints fans, why didn't they just buy their own tickets? Okay, okay, I know you are going to have a hissy fit about my first question - 'MLT should be allowed to do whatever he wants at SMS', I can hear you cry. 'after all He did for our club.' Well, in that case, what about Mick Channon? Should he also be allowed to buy an additional 10 tickets for his mates (who may not Saints fans)? What about Nick Holmes? David Peach? The mates of Bobby Stokes, should they be given tickets ahead for regularly attending Saints fans? Claus Lundekvam? Drew Surman? Paul Telfer? Any of the other HUNDREDS of players who have been on Saints books since we moved to SMS, or the THOUSANDS who played their hearts out at The Dell? Where do you draw the line? Cortese drew the line at NO ONE getting special treatment; and has stuck to his guns. Don't see a problem with that I'm afraid. Yes MLT was an amazing player. He gave me numerous fantastic moments as a Saints fan, and for that I will always be thankful. He also nearly killed the club with his backing of Pinnacle. I am very glad that Marcus and NC were still waiting and willing to step in at the last minute. One does wonder, what is MLT trying to achieve by his constant verbal attacks on NC? Is he trying to drive him away from SMS? Does he honestly think Saints would be better off without NC and the Liebherrs? Wes Tender Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 Have you been asleep at some of the comment on here about Le Tissier? He's not that important to us apparently, that is appalling... Nobody disputes the massive contribution he made to this club as a player and the great enjoyment it was watching the genius he was with a football at his feet. I have very clear and fond memories of watching him score some incredible goals. But he's not that important to the club anymore. He's retired as a footballer, he holds no position at the club as an employee, having thrown his lot in with the easy money gained as a pundit in the media. And if he uses that position as a platform to vent his vitriol at the Club's chief Executive, then he must accept that his reputation will suffer, as well as Cortese's and the Club's. Because nobody in Football apart from us is really that bothered about the whole affair. But as much as he made a really positive contribution to the club and its image when he was a player, he is now doing his best to tarnish the club's image through this ridiculous and petty vendetta that he and Cortese have towards each other. They're both behaving like a couple of kids and should grow up and show some maturity. If they both profess to have the best interests of the club at heart, then they should bury their differences and move on.

Does he wants a face-to-face with Cortese ...screened on Sky afterwards to see who said what..it's almost embarrassing. I'm sorry Matt...loved your football, but your halo is beginning to tarnish. Don't denegrate the club even more than you have done. Cortese saved the club when Pinnacle couldn't even find the money.
