1 signing not enough?

Going into the transfer window under Adkins I expected us to sign at least 3 players to successfully consolidate our PL place for next season. So far we've only signed 1, do we need to sign a couple more before the window's up? Regardless of Pochettino's influence our bench is very weak so we are relying on very few injuries between now and the end of the season.

I still feel we need a winger if I'm honest. There's no competition behind Puncheon and Lallana what so ever, that worries me.

Guly has done a good shift out there to his credit, but I'd love more options down the flanks in terms of pace. We don't really have the ability to change it in the wide area's from the bench, what we start with is pretty much what we've got.

CB is ok now, Forren looks like a talent. Fonte has proven himself alongside Yoshida to be competent at this level. Luke Shaw has fixed left back single handily, and Boruc has at last proven we have a capable keeper without needing to panic buy in that position this month.

So all in all - 1 more signing, an attacking wide player with pace.

Agree with this. No Premier League team should be in a position where they have to bring Steve De Ridder on from the bench. A winger is an essential signing for this window

I do agree with this. Lallana coming back means its Guly from the bench I guess plus Mayuka when he is back (although he is a striker really).

An attacking midfielder would be ideal, even a loan til end of season.

Hard to say until we see how Pochettino has us playing. It may well be that a few players out in the cold come back into contention. There isn't a glaring hole in the team, and it is hard to attract players to sign as backup so assuming we're only going to go after players who will make us better it is a difficult time of the year to make transfers.

There's still 5 days to go, plenty of time to bring one more in, if not more. We're a creative winger short of flying up the table IMO, but another injury crisis away from the relegation zone. With Lallana, some of our recent draws could've been wins, and that's what injuries get you. I wouldn't be surprised to see MP go out and get a central midfielder, winger, striker and more cover for defence, though for the benefit of our finances, I hope he doesn't.

Sums it up well for me. It's funny really, as just a few weeks ago my opinion was different and I thought we needed more, but I'm quite confident we have enough to survive and avoid needing to enter the crazy January market with its over-inflated prices.

I've said it before and I will do so again, I like the sound of my own voice, a player who can play down either wing with a bit of power and pace who will get to the byline and not run out of ideas (schteeeeve) ideally Phillips at blackpool but an equivalent will also do if he's too pricey or not available etc

As I posted at the start of the window, had we intended signing anyone we'd have had them lined up from day one.. Saint Charlie, who nowadays seems to know everything, disagreed. Well we've been promised everything bin sacking Adkins. Action not words speak volumes and MP has a lot to come to grips with in believing Cortese and the chief stooge Reed.

We can line up whoever we want but it doesnt always work like that. Loic Remy, Forren, Buttner ... deals dont always go as expected. For all we know we had an eight million pound deal set up and were talking terms with zaha at palace only for utd to swoop in and gazump us ;)

I'm not entirely sure as it wasn't written in English, but I think you're dissatisfied with this transfer window? I'm going to wait until Thursday night before drawing any conclusions ...

Yes, although if we do go down I think we will sign yet another new manager to get us up again.

The sacking of NA was not the wisest of decisions.

oh - give it a rest! Sure you would have been over moon if he was sacked for Glenda!

One signing (CB) is enough unless they have found a really outstanding wide player at an affordable price to replace Puncheon, but as we are JP has done well enough to be worth his place. RW is a position that needs some flair and unless we have another Walcot or Chamberlain coming through from the youth teams, it may need a transfer in, but best not done with a rush in January if we can wait until the summer.

It's more about the lack of impact from the bench. Ideally for those 3 positions in behind Lambert, you want atleast 5 capable players. Gaston/Lallana/Puncheon are good enough, Guly has done a good job when he's been used this season, but not great, and beyond that it's De Ridder, who is appalling. If we could get another player to challenge our first choice 3, then I think that would be enough.

If we stay up I would have thought Punch and Morgan will sign new contracts.

No. I have made it clear that Glenn's time has passed, but that does not change the fact he should have been appointed in 2004. People cannot change history but there are many who try and re-write it.

And some people who still aren't over it nearly 10 years later...If Hoddle had got the job then maybe we would be in the lower leagues now anyway, and wouldn't have been taken over by Liebherr. Get over it.

1 signing, combined with a failure to get a new signature out of Puncheon, is probably not enough, but considering the managerial shennanigans I dont know what should have been expected.

NC set his priorities elsewhere this month, and now has to face up to the consequences of them, for good or bad...

Who don't you think is good enough?

Personally think first 11 is match for all outside top 6.

Boric, Clyne, Yoshida, Forren, Shaw, Puncheon, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Ramirez, Lambert.

Happy with cover in CB, CM, Guly for AM or No 10 role,

If signed one or two more would like a top class CM like this Argentinian bloke we have been linked with, or a quick sub - although wonder if we have had ideal one all along and not used him? (Mayuka).

If manager settles well, without signings, we will be comfortably 10th to 15th

Agree with this. Our squad is more than capable to finish mid table, they're getting used to this league now and working as a team. Yer one attacking midfielder would be handy, but not the end of the world if we don't get one. Lallana and Fonte to come back as well....

And Mayuka.

Lots have written him off already, but he is only 22 and hardly been given a chance yet. He turned the game towards us playing on the right in a 4-2-3-1 vs Tottenham.

I am over it. My campaign and mission is to keep the beacon of truth alight and frustrate the attempts of the vocal minority to bury their role in the near collapse of the club by changing or airbrushing history.

Some on here have had the guts to admit to the error of what they did, many have not.

I don't get the De Ridder hate by some on here - seems he's the new Guly. Yet he has hardly had the chance to prove himself, has not done too badly when appearing and is one of the few players with genuine pace. Mayuka has been no better IMO.

We do need a very capable and adaptable attacking wide man though.

Another central midfielder (I don't have much faith in Steven Davis) and a winger would do for me.

This, said this last night to the boys.

We dont look dangerous enough without Lallana and if Punch or Gaston have an off game. SDR isnt the answer and for all the effort Guly puts in he isnt really creative enough.

Also remember the start of the season without Cork and how we struggled. Well, I think we need a decent back up here too

SDR is a terrible player, unfortunately in the premier league it takes more than someone just running at you, Guly is and always has been a better player.

I cant remember the last time, if ever, I have thought SDR is anything to rave about

Yep, cant remember the last time he did anything. He comes on, runs around a lot and delivers absolutelly nothing. Yes for some reason he has the fans shouting Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve when he comes on and Guly who is a far better player gets booed. He's at best a midtable championship player.

Reminds me of the hero worship of BWP which was equally as confusing, at least a few have noticed that he is a poor player now. He runs into blind alleys too much, cant cross, doesnt seem to know what anyone is doing around him. Id probably rather try someone like Chambers on the bench TBH

Downing looking decent again (not necessarily today) I got told I was an idiot to want him on a free.
