Chewy Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 An idle Sunday thread ... So we had to sell a number of players over the last few years, particularly academy graduates, and I wondered who people would like back? Bale, Walcott and AOC are obvious choices. I'd happily see Baird back, and bridge would be decent cover for shaw. Any others? There's best, blackstock, mcgoldrick and surman as possibles - none would get in the team IMO but I'd take surman as a squad player. And then there's dyer and jones. Given how he left, jones wouldn't be popular but he could still do a job I think. And I'm surprised how well dyers doing - Could find worse substitutes. What about mills or carnie? Colinjb Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Discounting Bale, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain who could walk into nearly any top flight side in the world. Based on how we play, Nathan Dyer would be a great re-addition. I don't think Baird would offer anything different.
Miltonroader07 Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Alan Shearer, Alan Ball, Kevin Keegan, MLT, Peter Shilton, Marion Pahars,Killer, Mark Dennis, Bobby Stokes RIP
SNSUN Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Irrespective of his past, Dyer has improved with Swansea and showed last year he has a Premier League player in him. He hasn't played quite as much this season though, but Punch aside we don't have great strength in depth on the right. I've always liked Surman as a player too but I'm not sure if I'd take him back anymore. If we did get relegated this season (touch wood) then I'd take both these back without a doubt and add Dexter Blacktock to that. Naturally I'd take the big 3 back without a doubt. Saint Garrett Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Don't really think Dyer would fit the way we play tbh. Hassan Kachloul in his prime would.
SNSUN Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Just realised the thread said ex-players not just ex-academy players. In which case I'd have Peter Crouch back to add competition up front.

positivepete Posted 27 January, 2013 Share Posted 27 January, 2013 Don't really think Dyer would fit the way we play tbh. Hassan Kachloul in his prime would. Our style is not dissimilar to Swansea's. Having seen a couple of their games earlier in the season, I suspect he would fit better now than he did when he was here before.

Currently playing players.....Bale in a heartbeat. Best left sided player in world football. You can't be serious can you? One of the most overrated players in the prem, if not world football at that. A couple of my Spurs supporting mates tell me he is the most frustrating player around. One game he'll be on fire (usually the big occasions), the next he'll be anonymous. Against us I seem to remember he disappeared second half! Other times they say he runs and huffs and puffs a lot, but is too selfish when it comes to the final ball and is often guilty of making the wrong decision. His shooting can be and often is wayward. Also can't defend for ****. Robben? Marcelo? Navas? Ribery? Take your ex-Saint biased spectacles off mate and get in the real world. Gareth is far from the "best left-sided player in world football." Have you seen Robben defend? He does NOT track back and that was a big part of the fall out in the Holland squad, players not understanding the concept of team. Bale is certainly one of the best. Ex saint or not he has taken some great sides apart and has not been surrounded by "world class" players all over the park like others mentioned. There is a reason the big boys in Spain are constantly linked and Fergie regrets not having him, and let me tell you it's not because they heard a couple of southampton fans thought he was not half bad! Dr. Kucho Posted 28 January, 2013 Share Posted 28 January, 2013 I have only been a fan for the last 10 years, so never saw the likes of Shilton, Keegan, Paine etc. The players I would like back are Oxlade-Chamberlain, Bale, Niemi and a fully fit Killer. This team would be amazing (though very attacking minded) ------------------- Niemi ----------------- Clyne ----- Killer ------ Fonte ------ Shaw ---------------- Schneiderlin ------------ Oxo --------------------------------Bale ------- Ramirez ----------- Lallana ------ --------------- Lambert ---------------
