Players you forgot played for us

Andrew Davies was immense in the nPC for a while, before moving on to Stoke I think. That was just at the stage when things were starting to go very very wrong financially. Still at Bradford struggling with injuries.

Actually, Davies was our player of the season in 07/08, so yes, he was immense!

Has Mikael Nilsson been mentioned yet? He was quite crap for us as far as I remember

And Danny Guthrie - I only remember we had him on loan but can't remember if he did well. Those good "old" dark days in the FLC really saw some players coming in and out!

Did we also get karate man Jelle Van Damme?

Stephen Crainey who went on to Leeds and Blackpool?

Lee Todd

Darren Potter

Chris Woods

Still feel a bit guilty about jeering at Chris along with loads of other fans behind the goal when he was carried off with a broken leg. Away a Leicester perhaps?

Sorry Chris....

Chinese captain Zheng Zhi was one - who was the other?!

I have a REALLY vague recall of having some Chinese players on trial but they never played, and there's no mention of Saints (even for a trial) on his Wiki page. Weirdly Newport County also had a couple of Chinese players on trial about 7 or 8 years ago, wouldn't be surprised if it was the same ones.

Aha ! : http://www.southampton-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/chinese_skipper_on_trial_193866/index.shtml

I think you got 4 "originals" there, pretty good going for post 253.

Nilsson was one of our worst ever Prem players, Guthrie was decent in the sense that we were cack before and after him and he added a bit of pace to our passing and effort to the midfield (though he can't get in Reading's team now).

Jelle Van Damme was with us from 2004-6, mostly injured, a ponderous donkey left back who refused to play in the Championship.

Stephen Crainey played about 4 matches under Sturrock and got sold almost immediately, was decent for Blackpool last season though.

Not got time to trawl the thread but Stephen O'Halloran (on loan from Villa). Now playing for Nuneaton Town according to wikipedia.

Already covered in depth, along with a debate about whether we only signed him to promote an u-21s match at St Mary's where Surman and Walcott were in the England squad.

How about players you have literally forgotten who played for us in two separate spells?

Can't remember his name but Alan Ball re-signed him and for some reason i remember he scored our "other" goal in that snowy victory over Liverpool when MLT got the other three.
