There was a story that Lowe told him that he could live like a king in his own counry on what we pay him when he asked for an increase.

That was Tahar "New Boots" El Khalej! Crocked Dyer for the world cup that year - though the process of boarding a plane probably would have done for Dyer if he had survived that match...

Tahar got a lot of grief in the media for that one, hence my Fantasy League team "Tahar Shot JR" the next season. :)

It was when talking about him that Lowe suggested that he ought to feel grateful to be playing for us, as he would be earning a lot less in Morocco.

I quite liked him and he was a good servant of the club when he was here. (Kachloul, that is, not Lowe) ;) Lowe earned far too much out of us for what he did.

My Villa supporting mate say he is regarded by Villa fans as possibly their worst signing of all time, given what how much he cost them and what they got out of him!

Decent for us and as many have said, really good in the great escape season. Don't really blame him for taking the money at Villa either.

Like it! I remember all the fuss at the time, like Tahar had single-handedly knocked us out before the tournament started by crocking Dyer. A sudden change in wind direction could crock Dyer, but poor old Tahar got rinsed over it!

"Money Grabbing Moroccan Mentalist" I love the way fans say how players are greedy but when you are talking the money involved I couldnt blame him at all and although some might say greedy I say CLEVER!

The basics of him being greedy were

1. SFC were offering HK about a 50% pay rise to renew his contract.

2. HK agreed a deal with Ipswich but only verbally and Ipswich at the time were willing to pay him 10 times what he was on at SFC.

3. The fact that his agent then spoke to him while he was in Cyprus and said Villa had agreed had agreed to pay him 19 x what he was on at SFC plus a hugh signing on fee.

So really you cant blame him for taking the villa deal can you? We are not talking a few grand here we are talking tens of thousands of pounds a week.

? not sure Dibden, seem to recall a story that he walked into the Dell and asked for a trial. ..I though the was quite useful, and was a good acquistion considering he was practically nil investment.

the story above (about his wages sounds pretty-Lowe-like to me) and came at the end of his short contract period when he was open to offers, and deserved better than 3K week.

Also .....he was set to join Ipswich - in Burley's time there but there was something about his agent changing his mind for him and selling him to Villa instead ??

He would have done better to have chosen the first option, he never fitted in at Villa Park, and so ended his real career.

Certainly would put him in the category of " money-grabbing anything " .....not at those cheapo wages. I think his agent was just greedy and did him no favours with that deal.

Lovely lad (although a bit biased as he was a friend and neighbour. Bender, I was in Ayia Napa that year atthe same time as Hass and all the others as well!!).

I think he was a half decent player who weighed in with a few important goals and contrary to what others said, always felt he gave his all. Always though he was better going forward than tracking back, but did also get stuck in at times.

Right at the end I know he was really disillusioned at being insulted by Lowe (whilst watching other "stars", pick up much bigger wages whilst sat in the treatment room!!).

Exit2 is spot on with the numbers. His demands to stay weren't outrageous (his initial contract was relative peanuts), but when Ipswich & Villa started waving stupid money he signed a deal which totalled millions!!!
