Thought he was a decent player for us very disapointed when he got greedy and left and have to admit enjoying watching his fall from grace after that.

a mate did some work at his gaffe in Ocean Village....about the time he was deciding to stay or not....my mate claimed that he asked if he was and said that hassan was pretty honest about it......he wanted £8k a week and the club offered him £3k a week......he soon left I think

There was a story that Lowe told him that he could live like a king in his own counry on what we pay him when he asked for an increase.

Had a part in Dellhurst , one of our greatest days recently, one night vrs ???? at the Dell thought he was superb. Was it not £12,000 a week why he moved to Villa?

Where is he now?

Didn't he send Kieron Dyer flying at a match v the Barcodes, or am I thinking of something else??

You're thinking of Tahar El Khalej.

That's the next thread.

He made a difference the season we signed him where his goals helped keep us up...

Good touch and goal threat throughout, but had the pace of a broken-winded donkey!

nevertheless I liked him

That was Tahar "New Boots" El Khalej! Crocked Dyer for the world cup that year - though the process of boarding a plane probably would have done for Dyer if he had survived that match...

Tahar got a lot of grief in the media for that one, hence my Fantasy League team "Tahar Shot JR" the next season. :)

It was when talking about him that Lowe suggested that he ought to feel grateful to be playing for us, as he would be earning a lot less in Morocco.

I quite liked him and he was a good servant of the club when he was here. (Kachloul, that is, not Lowe) ;) Lowe earned far too much out of us for what he did.

Massive player for us in the great escape season of 98-99, a good solid midfielder in the seasons following. Shame he got so greedy and messed his career up.

My Villa supporting mate say he is regarded by Villa fans as possibly their worst signing of all time, given what how much he cost them and what they got out of him!

Decent for us and as many have said, really good in the great escape season. Don't really blame him for taking the money at Villa either.

Like it! I remember all the fuss at the time, like Tahar had single-handedly knocked us out before the tournament started by crocking Dyer. A sudden change in wind direction could crock Dyer, but poor old Tahar got rinsed over it!

Free transfer wasn't he?

"Money Grabbing Moroccan Mentalist" I love the way fans say how players are greedy but when you are talking the money involved I couldnt blame him at all and although some might say greedy I say CLEVER!

The basics of him being greedy were

1. SFC were offering HK about a 50% pay rise to renew his contract.

2. HK agreed a deal with Ipswich but only verbally and Ipswich at the time were willing to pay him 10 times what he was on at SFC.

3. The fact that his agent then spoke to him while he was in Cyprus and said Villa had agreed had agreed to pay him 19 x what he was on at SFC plus a hugh signing on fee.

So really you cant blame him for taking the villa deal can you? We are not talking a few grand here we are talking tens of thousands of pounds a week.

In terms of wages. Apparently he just didn't really seem to be bothered about trying to get into the first team at all and didn't make much effort in games.

Good player, always liked him. Shame he got greedy and screwed up his career.

Agreed. Hungry to join Saints and made a good contribution to the team.

I guess he took bad advice from his agent and never showed the same form for Villa.

? not sure Dibden, seem to recall a story that he walked into the Dell and asked for a trial. ..I though the was quite useful, and was a good acquistion considering he was practically nil investment.

the story above (about his wages sounds pretty-Lowe-like to me) and came at the end of his short contract period when he was open to offers, and deserved better than 3K week.

Also .....he was set to join Ipswich - in Burley's time there but there was something about his agent changing his mind for him and selling him to Villa instead ??

He would have done better to have chosen the first option, he never fitted in at Villa Park, and so ended his real career.

Certainly would put him in the category of " money-grabbing anything " .....not at those cheapo wages. I think his agent was just greedy and did him no favours with that deal.

Lovely lad (although a bit biased as he was a friend and neighbour. Bender, I was in Ayia Napa that year atthe same time as Hass and all the others as well!!).

I think he was a half decent player who weighed in with a few important goals and contrary to what others said, always felt he gave his all. Always though he was better going forward than tracking back, but did also get stuck in at times.

Right at the end I know he was really disillusioned at being insulted by Lowe (whilst watching other "stars", pick up much bigger wages whilst sat in the treatment room!!).

Exit2 is spot on with the numbers. His demands to stay weren't outrageous (his initial contract was relative peanuts), but when Ipswich & Villa started waving stupid money he signed a deal which totalled millions!!!

One of the videos I uploaded to YouTube, one of my favourite Hassan performances....

Great video. Very poignant to see Gary Speed outmuscke Dean Richards to score at the end.

I got his autograph when I was about 9/10 years old-ish, upon him signing the bit of paper I said something about him being a quality footballer, and then he said thanks and signed the bit of paper again. Never understood that.
