Saint Garrett Posted 24 January, 2013 Posted 24 January, 2013 Forest would have been a good fit if they hasn't just brought in Mcleish.
captainchris Posted 24 January, 2013 Posted 24 January, 2013 Having lived near Huddersfield for a dozen years until last year I think he could do a lot worse. The chairman is relatively minted (no Liebherr mind you), they have some history, a decent 24k ground (albeit with c12-14k average crowds I think). http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21184105 Sorry but what is this thread about? Nothing to do with Saints or Adkins come to that. My next door neighbour hasn't been offered the Huddersfield job either nor have I or my mate down the road. Pointless thread which should not be on here.

All true except I suspect you don't have a mate down the road... or anywhere for that matter
maysie Posted 24 January, 2013 Posted 24 January, 2013 All true except I suspect you don't have a mate down the road... or anywhere for that matter Made me laugh
Dr Who? Posted 25 January, 2013 Posted 25 January, 2013 Probably not no. Interesting to see that Grayson was sacked after 12 games without a win though, that's pretty poor really. Amazing, as I think they were second after about 10 games or something, and everyone was signing his praises, for getting them promoted, and then as they said early season on sky sports ''looking like they could do a Norwich and Southampton'. Amazing how it changes so quickly!
The9 Posted 25 January, 2013 Posted 25 January, 2013 I find it difficult to believe Nige will take any job outside the Prem when he must know full well he'll be first on the list of any bottom half Prem team who don't currently have an English manager and plan on sacking theirs. Why would he gamble the reputation he's built by dropping into the Championship and face having to repeat his success, which can only make him look potentially worse if he fails and prove nothing if he succeeds ? Having said that I'd laugh a lot if Brighton sacked Poyet and appointed him...
mickyp Posted 25 January, 2013 Posted 25 January, 2013 I bet Blackburn are kicking themselves they didnt wait a week, Sheffield Weds be another good club
Turkish Posted 25 January, 2013 Posted 25 January, 2013 I bet Blackburn are kicking themselves they didnt wait a week, Sheffield Weds be another good club Forest is the one. perfect fit for them. My Forest mate at work is absolutely gutted that firstly O'Driscoll got sacked, secondly that the got McCleish and thirdly that they missed out on Adkins but about 3 weeks.
trousers Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 @reluctantnicko: Huddersfield will make an approach for the man they want to be manager today. This should start moving.
SaintBobby Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 If I was Adkins, think I'd have my eye on Leeds United.
trousers Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 @reluctantnicko: Huddersfield....approach for Robins. He wants it. Should progress later tonight and tomorrow. @dankiz1: @reluctantnicko Adkins never in frame? @reluctantnicko: @dankiz1 If Adkins had been interested he would be sitting at a desk with a blue and white tie on. Think he is waiting for something
positivepete Posted 11 February, 2013 Posted 11 February, 2013 Forest would have been a good fit if they hasn't just brought in Mcleish. O'Driscoll is reported as saying he should have done his due diligence on the new owners at Forest. He said if he had he would not have joined. I would expect Adkins would have been aware of that comment.

Window Cleaner Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 He'll wait for Villa He'll only get the Villa job if they go down. They won't get fooled again, if they stay up they'll either keep Lambert or get an experienced manager in, I'm thinking Martinez cos if Villa stay up Wigan will go down..Under those circumstances I could see Adkins at Wigan though.

Having chatted with a few Pie eaters after the game they'd happily have him back at their club.
DT Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 He'll wait for Villa This. Although might be a bit miffed by their recent win. He probably needs time at a club rather than being brought in as a quick saviour.
ART Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Wigan is a potential club for Nigel if they are relegated or Martinez moves to another club. In fact they might be in the strongest position seeing past links and being in the Adkins country.
student Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Dont know why people are suggesting villa or wigan, as far as im concerned their fans will expect too much from him when the championship is so competitive. Leeds are the team, big support new owners so he'l be their man, money to spend and a big team too. Cant see him getting a PL job without getting the team promoted

Would be a great job for Nigel and I am certain he would get them promoted.

Would be a great job for Nigel and I am certain he would get them promoted. I still have my doubts about him as a top class manager. Leeds just don't have the nucleus that Nigel inherited from Pardew and it would be nigh on impossible to buy it. He could buy players that are good but would he find at least 5 players who are capable of stepping up their game to a new level every time it's asked of them ? Clubs coming down from the PL this season may be getting whacking great does of PPs and to me they'll be among the favourites for promotion again.
saintbob40 Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 He'll wait for his pay off from Saints first. If he gets a job in the meantime he will mittigate a lot of his losses arising from the Saints termination and his compensation payment from Saints will be much lower. Cortese will probably drag this payment out to get the best deal for the club as Adkins will I am sure want to get back into management quickly.
ART Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Leeds are in Yorkshire, Adkins is a Lancashire lad.!!!

Cortese will probably drag this payment out to get the best deal for the club as Adkins will I am sure want to get back into management quickly. That will depend what was in his contract or what had been subsequently agreed. When an employer terminates a fixed term contract he is normally liable to pay it up to it's full extent unless it's been agreed otherwise. We don't know the details for early termination so just can't speculate on what will happen. Plenty of managers have been sacked by a club and obtained full payment even if they've got a new job a few days afterwards. Adkins had a contract until 2015, normally the club owes him for all of it. It cost us over a million to sack Pardew even though he only had a year and a bit on his contract. Saint Fan CaM Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 I'd like to see Adkins wait until Warnock gets sacked (which might be soon) and then go for the Leeds job. Can't see Warnock being sacked now, however I believe his contract is up in the summer and that will be the time I would imagine.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Can't see Warnock being sacked now, however I believe his contract is up in the summer and that will be the time I would imagine. Think he's retiring in June anyway. Still think Leeds will go for a bigger name than Adkins.
student Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Who is the bigger name with any sort of proven record?
Thedelldays Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Who is the bigger name with any sort of proven record? All Leeds fans will care about is promotion to the prem Which has been done by countless average managers Not that Adkins is average but he is not god like at other clubs
Window Cleaner Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Who is the bigger name with any sort of proven record? someone from elsewhere who your average UK fan hasn't heard of, you know like Pochettino or Laudrup. If Wigan should go down Martinez will be on top of many wanted lists as well. Then again I'm not a big big Adkins fan because I still maintain that he inherited the nucleus of our side from the Pardew era, a nucleus that would be difficult to buy..
RobM Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Let's be honest, as much as Saints fans may love Adkins, he hasn't suddenly turned into the next Sir.Alex or Mourinho, he isn't quite a 'big name'. But equally, you'd hope that should a team like Leeds appoint him their fans would be able to see that his promotion record and style of football is decent and he is a very good long-term shout. That's what Leeds need IMO, a long-term vision and some patience to allow somebody to build something great. Much like we needed...
student Posted 12 February, 2013 Posted 12 February, 2013 Im not sure there are many coaches with better stats for getting promoted than him, plus when you consider he's done it at two clubs plus kept one in touch in the premiership then he'd be quite tempting. He's certainly done better than Warnock. Martinez would be joining a premiership job over a championship anyway, he's turned down Liverpool before perhaps even Chelsea might get tempted by his credentials. For me Martinez is the successor to Moyes or a big club if they give him assurances of time. I'd say Adkins is the biggest name going who is a realistic prospect for any championship team. If any manager got sacked in the Championship right now I'd imagine Adkins is the first man they try and sound out. Also he has the pro of not being too expensive so he's the kind of bloke you can take a punt on getting you into the Premiership and then get rid as and when. Add to that he's a free agent so no pay off and he's about the best managerial risk going.
Pamplemousse Posted 17 February, 2013 Posted 17 February, 2013 http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/378201/Nigel-Adkins-lined-up-for-Leeds According to the Express, off to Leeds. Would be a good move for both IMO.
Appy Posted 17 February, 2013 Posted 17 February, 2013 Leeds would be the perfect job for Adkins. You can see why he didn't fancy Blackpool or Huddersfield.
hasper57saint Posted 17 February, 2013 Posted 17 February, 2013 Leeds are in Yorkshire, Adkins is a Lancashire lad.!!! He's from CHESHIRE actually!!!!
RobM Posted 17 February, 2013 Posted 17 February, 2013 Leeds would be the perfect job for Adkins. You can see why he didn't fancy Blackpool or Huddersfield. If their owners were solid and secure I think you'd be 100% right, but the fact Leeds are rumoured to be changing hands yet again must worry any manager.
