dubai_phil Posted 25 January, 2013 Share Posted 25 January, 2013 Thanks for the complement but I'm no different to most of the other posters on here. Like everybody else, I have my contacts and they tell me things. Sometimes they are spot on, other times they are a country mile wide of the mark. But again, like most people, I am not a WUM and post the information on here in good faith based on whether or not I feel it should be in the public domain and available for debate. You probably wouldn't be that surprised to find out how many people on here either work in the media or have close friends who do and have information they feel should be shared. The problem is that there is so much management and manipulation of the news agenda - and I don't just mean Saints here - that the traditional role of the media in being a watchdog to provide check and balances on those who are accountable or in positions of influence and power, is being eroded. Journalists are becoming increasingly frustrated that, for whatever reason, they are unable to use a lot of the stuff they know, in their own outlets. So they turn to forums like this to get information out there that would otherwise remain under wraps. A sign of the times. Have heard very similar from the guys who come down here for the golf, so much they want to be able to say but they have their hands tied. (On a bigger picture not Saints related in this case although will check later next week) The only snippet I ever had was a simple one and been done to death on other threads which was the inadmissable in court stuff for 'Arry's trial, all anyone can ever say is that it was no surprise he never got the England job. But, you have to look at all the pics in training and the crossbar challenge Lickie Rambert stuff to see how "bothered" the team appear to be

bender Posted 25 January, 2013 Share Posted 25 January, 2013 Yep. Gordon Watson was commentating on the game and was really frustrated that we didn't go at them from the start, saying that it was a good point but we really could have gone for all three. There's something awry when you have by far your most expensive, most creative midfield player and by far your best striker on the bench as a tactical decision. That's how we got a result. We let them think we were sh1t then brought them on. Had they been on from the start we may have got an early lead but Chelsea would have fought back. OldNick Posted 26 January, 2013 Share Posted 26 January, 2013 It doesn't bear it out at all in my eyes; it shows me what might have been had he been on the pitch for longer. Lambert IS 30, and he's perhaps the most influential player we have and should be on the pitch as much as possible. If you're suggesting he can only play an efficient 30 minutes every game due to lack of fitness I'm going to have to disagree. The decisions previously to rest Lambert at the starts of games were questioned at the time. That news of the players not necessarily going along with is seemingly drifting out wouldn't be a surprise to me. Lets see if Pochettino gives the same tactic a go; if its worked so well in the past he'll surely be encouraged to try it further. I have a feeling he won't, but we'll see. Lambert has been made captain, if MP has been watching us for a while as the media suggest then I assume he will be expecting RL to play 90minutes. I think it was AP who said he needs to play the whole game every week to keep him fit. It still bewilders me how NA took RL AL and JP off with 25 minutes to go when we were leading against Man u. It not only took the initiative away but left us without the ability to make subs at the end to slow the game down, complete madness

It completely torpedoes the argument that NA was learning as patently he was not. Rio and Vidic could not believe their luck when RL was taken off, he had made mugs of them. Wes Tender Posted 26 January, 2013 Share Posted 26 January, 2013 Well, Pochettino only has to look at this website for the best possible advice regarding which players to pick in a match and for how long they should play. Take note MP, not starting certain players, or taking them off the pitch before the final whistle will be a cardinal sin and bring down on you the derision of the fans, because it will prove that you are as clueless as Adkins was on such matters. It doesn't matter whether these players are tiring from their exertions, whether the changes were tactical to counteract the oppositions changes, whether they are carrying injuries, etc. You are not to do it. Wes Tender Posted 26 January, 2013 Share Posted 26 January, 2013 And what an idiot that Ferguson is, eh? Fancy leaving three of their best players on the bench until the last 10 minutes. Just think what Scholes, Giggs and Nani could have achieved had they played the full 90 minutes.

And you bet I wasn't happy with the decision to get shot of Adkins in that way.
Wes Tender Posted 26 January, 2013 Share Posted 26 January, 2013 what has ferguson got to do with anything.....? It's called a comparison between two managers and what they do tactically. And how one's tactics are applauded and the other's similar tactics enable him to be labelled as out of his depth.
sadoldgit Posted 26 January, 2013 Share Posted 26 January, 2013 But Adkins picked gazza time and time again. Now, he can't even make the bench.. Adkins picked fox time and time again Adkins moved Ramirez round We were very gung Ho at times. The keeper situation was a joke IMO I know not every loss was down to the manager. But too many points dropped were because of him early on...well, not early on, even up to stoke You have wanted Adkins out for some time now and you have your wish. I wonder how long it will be before you go after MP or whether the players mistakes will be down to them rather than the manager because this manager has a more exotic name than Pardew or Adkins? Giggs, Scholes and Nani are not regular first choice players for Man United; they've only started 17 league games between the three of them this season.
