Adkins to Villa....?

Could it happen? As much as I'd love to see him back in football sooner rather than later, it'd be horrible from our point of view. Surely Lambert doesn't have much time left there now after tonight though?

On the bright side, what little confidence Villa had will be gone now hopefully!

Adkins would be first name on Villa's wish list if they dispense with Lambert IMO, but I actually think they'll keep faith in Lambert. He's a good manager that's playing around with a young team that are desperately short of experience. If anything, this will spur them to spend a bit on players before the window shuts.

I hope not, I think Adkins would be better suited to a club with a longer-term vision and some decent owners. I agree with SNSUN though, I think they'll stick with Lambert, they just need to add some experience which I'm sure they could find for the same price as sacking Lambert.

I think Nigel will sit it out until the Summer. Bound to be a bit shattered by recent events.

I can't remember where I read it today but he apparently hasn't been returning Karl Oyston's calls at Blackpool. With the money he'll get as a pay off from Cortese, he could take some decent time off and still have the pick of jobs in the summer. I actually think he'll just wait until one comes along that he really fancies.

Villa have got a decent owner. He's made some duff managerial calls that's all. Personally thought Lambert was a good appointment - nothing suggested it wouldn't work. It just hasn't.

If Villa came calling I think Nige would bite their hand off. Bigger club than we are for a start.

Though there's no money to spend - MON spent it all. Lambert was brought in on the understanding that he would do a poortvliet and blood the youth in, so its not surprising that he's hit a wall.

How do you define bigger?

We have a pretty similar attendance average (in fact we have a better % then them).

I define it as Aston Villa are a bigger club than Saints. I'm not debating it and I don't care what you think, or what MLG or any other forum div wants to come up with.

So have fun reeling off little factoids amongst yourselves.

Don't need to reel off facts or anything like that. Simply asked you how you defined what makes a club "big" and you felt you didn't need to explain because your Cb Fry and anyone who doesn't agree with you is instantly wrong.

If anyone has to query whether or not AV are bigger than Saints they're either a WUM or a complete and utter moron. End of. Get back to Skatesville.

Poison chalice, Nige would be better to wait for someone in a better position than Villa.

They are going down and need a faith healer, not a manager to stay up at this rate.

He should wait for either a prem club that can give him a whole season OR a champ club that looks like it's going places.

Would hate to see him squander his good work at SFC on a rusting, sinking hulk like Villa.

Paul Lambert is an idiot and Villa wont get rid of him yet.

Adkins can do a lot better than that sinking ship (massive wage disparity to ability in the squad hence why they are stuck playing so many terrible youth players).

I would expect Adkins to take a break till the summer and see what proper teams turn up needing him.

wouldn't think he'd get the job in front of Di Matteo for the time being but if they leave it too late and it's an NPC job that needs doing I don't think Di Matteo would be interested. Probably a couple of better jobs coming up anyway. I'm thinking Fulham.

Would be potentially the ultimate f-you to Cortese if he kept Villa up and we went down, got to say gutted though I'd be if this happens I'd still feel a warm glow knowing that Adkins had the last laugh!

It would. But equally, there could be every chance Adkins could go the way of Paul lambert

Both have very similar records

Lambert did have a reasonable PL season with Norwich last year though. Looks to me as if that may have been down to the players more than the manager. Players adapted to the PL but the manager didn't quite really. Some of his player choices this season have been abysmal .

Do you not think Villa are a bigger club than Saints?

Of course they are.

The point is how do you define a big club. The way some talk I.e the guy who called me a skate....imply that this is a parameter that cannot change. It stays the same forever.

So by that logic clubs that are smaller cannot become big and clubs that are big cannot become smaller.

Villa are a club which has done very well in the past. They won a European cup. But does that mean if you win that cup you then become a big club?

Cortese obviously has high expectations for Saints. Say his plans come to fruition and say in 10 years time we get a cl place. In that time Villa do what we did and get relegated for the first time and free fall. Because they would be in a lower league does that then stop them being a big club?

So I asked a question how do you define being a big club. I didn't say they were not a big club. Some seem to think winning a cup/league is what defines a big club. Which in some cases is true. But if someone won something nearly 40 years ago does that still matter today? Football has changed a lot in that time and continues to change.

In 1982 Man Utd had won only 6 league titles. Villa had equal titles and equal European titles. The clubs were pretty much on par. But since then Man Utd have gone on to win 13 league titles, 4 European titles, 7 fa cups, 4 league cups, and a world club cup.

Villa have in that time won 2 league cups. Leicester have won it twice in that period. Does that then also make them a big club?

In my view as shown Man Utd are a big club. A giant if you will. But winning trophies is not an indicator of how big a club is. Newcastle have won jack **** for 50 years so by that logic they wouldn't be a big club. Which would be stupid.

Football changes as time goes by. Teams that did well and were well supported in one era can be a shadow of themselves in the next. Smaller teams become bigger as they progress and expand. Look at us, Brighton and Reading all along the south coast. 10 years ago we were playing in a 15k stadium. Now we are in a 32k stadium. That shows the club is growing. The same goes for Brighton and Reading.

So if we continue to grow at what point do we go from average club to big club?

In 10 years time who knows what will happen. But if we progress at the rate we have over the last three and Villa continue at their rate over the last three then you would imagine we would be more successful in terms of league position, attendance, quality of players etc then them.
