Nick Harvey pretend Assistant Manager

Horton Heath Saint

Recommended Posts

His English isn't as bad as is being made out. The assistant manager does speak good English, but watched the game from the stands in order to have a better view of the pitch from higher up.

how do you know? How bad has it been made out to be?

Poche who cant speak English, has to send our fitness coach to send out tactics to players????

Well, it seems our 'Poche' can speak better English than maybe he's letting on (did you see him chatting with Rickie last night?) just not enough to avoid getting tied up in knots by the English media. His side-kicks can also speak very good English, maybe our fitness coach was just a familiar go-between with the players on an important night?

Because Adam Blackmore mentioned it during the commentary on BBC Radio Solent and I saw it on the Saints Player extended highlights earlier today.

mentioned what? I dont recall anyone apart from people on here saying he cant speak English, in fact the fella from Sky Spain said he can speak it. I dont recall it being "made out" to be bad at all.who said it was?

I was referring to the assistant being in the stands. Lots in the media are making a mountain out of a molehill about his level of English.

Did they? Like who? Who "made out" his English was bad? What mountains were made out of molehills? Cant remember any.

Mauricio do you want to talk in English?"

MP: "I understand English, but I still need to work on my vocabulary and confidence. Okay, lets talk in Spanish."

Primary non-anecdotal evidence doesn't win any points on the Saintsweb forum thank you very much ;)

That Peter Simon chap on Bid TV got a bit flustered about it last night. He was selling pots and kettles at the time so understandable he lost his composure a little I guess. Preferred him on kids TV myself.

I will readily state that I was under the impression that he didn't speak a word of it, so I must have got it from somewhere.

In fact last night I was wondering why he was yelling stuff at the touchline if he couldn't communicate with most of the players, until after the game where my mate who sits near the dugouts said he was speaking (and shouting) in English throughout.

As for the pre-match interview with interpreter and note-taking on Sky, that was an absolute bleeding debacle, and he must have known how bad it would look.

Probably from here The 9. I dont recall anyone in the meida "making out" it was or "making mountains out of molehills" Apart from on here obviously. A few people might have mentioned it briefly, but there was no media wide "the Argie cant speak the lingo" bandwagon like MLG is making out. As I said, his mate on Sky Spain said he speaks the language so he would know.

As it happens, I saw a comment from Matthew Le Tissier (not that one, the poster on here) saying "my only criticism is that he can't speak English" in another thread just now.

I didn't come on here that much last Friday so not sure I did get it from here - and also I know better than to believe anything on here.

Pretty sure the translation element of the press conference on Friday is where the "myth" was built.

So it was little more than a mongboard rumour then. No one "making out" it was bad or "making mountains out of molehills" as MLG states.

Yet everyone chose to ignore his mate in Spain who said he can and instead chose to believe a load of helmets on the radio who are know for spouting bollo cks and anti Saints stuff. Mongboard logic strikes again.

I think the consensus was that he didn't speak English and it came from him not speaking English in the press conference. I'm not bothered enough to go and track down a load of press reporting from Friday about it, as I don't really care. I had assumed he didn't speak English from the press conference and I'm sure many people from the media who didn't already know him may have thought the same and could have reported it as such.

HIs Spanish pal said he speaks English, surely he is the one who should be listened too. Yet every seems to have taken ALan friggin Brazils word for it over someone who has know the guy for years.

Same people who "thought" there would be all out mutiny by the supporters last night. Got that wrong too!

And here's Sky Sports saying "Speaking in Spanish, Pochettino insisted that his inability to communicate in English would not limit his immediate impact at Southampton, saying "Sometimes the language of football is more gestural than vocal".

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8425896/Mauricio-Pochettino-looks-to-La-Liga-to-achieve-ambitious-project-at-Southampton

Two sources from a quick Google basically saying he doesn't speak English (or that there are "fears" he doesn't speak it, to cover the Mail's ar5e).

His lack of speech was probably down to the (as the Solent 'tater put to him after last night) "tumultuous welcome" he got from the fans. "Tumultuous welcome"? he was probably speechless at how sh*te the atmosphere is at English grounds these days, last night was shocking again.

When you come from a country where the support is like this...

(miles from the pitch and no roof - nice to see River Plate wearing our old kit btw)

...England's gonna come as a bit of a disappointment.

No, there were only ever a couple of ex-SISA members, max, who were going to do the hankie thing.

As far as I could tell everyone else thought it was going to be a pointless idea and as they couldn't even be ar5ed to use the white paper towels in the Northam loos which were RIGHT THERE, it was obvious on arriving that nothing was happening regarding that other than in McMillan and his mates' (mate's?) mind.

So now we believe the "Daily Fail" (PMSL) do we? Only a couple of days ago this was a sh*t paper full of lies. Now we take it as gospel.

I've never said anything about the Mail's accuracy, but it certainly meets MLG's criteria of the media (the Mail is part of the media, as are Sky Sports), "making out" that he couldn't speak English. And the Mail itself is most definitely making a "mountain out of a molehill" by mentioning "fears" and using language of panic, and as even you have pointed out, they're not known for their accuracy.

So you'll just have to accept you're wrong on this one and MLG is right.

I'm sure you can be the bigger man and step away from the discussion.

Well his ability / inability to speak English is being mentioned, referenced in basically every article (sometimes just casual and factual, and sometimes more critically). Unless you are being deliberately obtuse, it is plainly obvious that much has been made of this.

Examples:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21132250

"There are 20 minutes to kick-off at St Mary's. Mauricio Pochettino is probably reciting a rousing speech to his new troops now, only to have to wait for 30 seconds after each stanza for his translator to convey the emotion in English. I never thought that as an Englishman I would be able to hold the upper hand on languages, but Mauricio Pochettino needs to raise his game and get enrolled at the local college."

"Pochettino is now having a tete a tete with Rickie Lambert in the middle. I think he speaks more English than he lets on. Pochettino that is, not Lambert..."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21081886

"Every answer, other than a brief hello in English was provided by an interpreter, but Pochettino said communication would be no issue with his players. "Football is an international language," he said."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21079956

"What does he know about the dressing room, does he speak English?" (quoting Lawrie Mac)

If a "mountain out of molehill" is one line in an article then yes they did do that. Although it seems you've all be fooled into believing bullsh*t stories in papers where it is known they have an anti Saints agenda and not trusting his mate in Sky Spain who confirmed he can speak it. Shame on you all.

From the BBC report on the game...

" On the sidelines communication seemed a major issue, as Pochettino does not speak good English. Strength and conditioning coach Nick Harvey appeared to be helping to pass on instructions to the players. Towards the end of the game it appeared to become a signficant problem."

So the BBC specualte on what might be going on in the Saints dressing room and Lawrie Mc comments on the lingustic ability of a man he confesses he has never heard of. Yes compelling evidence.:lol::lol:
