We started the season far far too open, and I'm worried that Adkins was maybe sacked because he went against Cortese's principles of attacking football. Cortese did mention in his interview that Pochettino matches Cortese's way... we started the season with an inadequate team, the style of football has very little to do with our results in those matches. Fox,Davis,Davis,Jos in the starting line up is what did for us. Plus of course some very strange substitutions.

Buying a slow defender in the window, probably wasn't the best idea either. Did the committee know about the high pressing game before they signed him or did they read this and go "Oh Sh!t, best pull out of the Carnavaro deal as well". Boruc Clyne Forren Yoshida Shaw Cork Morgan Davis Ramirez Puncheon Lambert Davis Fox Hooiveld Lallana JWP Chaplow Rodriguez is this with ramirez on the left? coz he's been lost there for us every time he's played there, first half of monday night he was exceptional in the free role in the middle. play him there again i say, if u want the CMs then I'd play jay and SRL with him in the hole. both of them drift wide and give us width, and with gaston, davis and cork coming through the middle to support. if you want wingers, and to get the best out of gaston you've got to drop Davis and play 2 CMs, would be a no brainer if lallana was fit but will be interesting to see how we shape up. hopefully we will see something different, if lallana is able to play the last 45-30 minutes would be nice to give shaw a go at LW, and who knows, fox could be a new player under MP

If fit, he'll play there in every game. I reckin Adkins benching of Gaston, and his playing him "out of position", were the beginning of the end for him. It's the wide area where any shock will come. MP likes to blood youth and Cortese expects that. Our squad (bench in particular) will evolve throughout the season imo. Chambers, Reeves, Stephens, JWP and perhaps someone from leftfield will come to the fore.

edprice1984 Posted 30 January, 2013 Share Posted 30 January, 2013 I always assume the worst when playing against the big clubs. My new tactic is to avoid all coverage until last 5 minutes, then see the damage. It means I don't p off the wife/wake the baby/annoy the neighbours with loud swearing. Probably a regulation 3-0 defeat, hopefully with no injuries - rest up Ricky for the main event on Saturday.

He's brought this new fella in and going to go back to being ridiculously open again. Cortese did mention in his interview that Pochettino matches Cortese's way... I agree with you. Against Everton, for me the evidence was there with Yoshida getting caught out more than 3 times by Anichebe after he came on and was playing just inside the channel, when Clyne was out of position. This seemed a very weak area for me, so i suspect we'll get caught out by that tonight if we are as open as the second half against Everton. If we are going to push the wide boys further forward more often, they really need to make sure they don't give away possession cheaply. Will be interesting tonight but i think an early goal for manure will set the tone and we'll go down fighting 3-1!
