Man Utd Away Build Up

If I was you I'd much rather Yoshida and Forren in the middle, can't say I rate Hooiveld at all. Seemed to get away with looking good last season because he scored quite a few goals. RVP and Rooney will tear him a new one.

Maybe its time to give De Ridder a start, its a relatively low pressure game and it can be hard to find rhythm coming off the bench every game. Plus he'd offer you pace on the counter, which seems the best way to beat united.

The way to beat united seems to be high pressure in the middle of the park, every team that get in at their midfielders seem to win quite easily. Newcastle completely overran their midfield last year in the 3-0. MP tactics could prove to be very useful in this game. IF you sit back you'll get picked off.

I would dare to predict that should De Ridder actually start this game he will get sent off before half-time. Our LMF player needs to defend, De Ridder can't do that. In fact I'd rather have anyone from the first team group than De Ridder.

I really don't think De Ridder is Premier League quality.

Paul Merson....

Man Utd v Southampton

PAUL PREDICTS: 4-1

I thought Southampton played very well in the first half against Everton in Mauricio Pochettino's (pictured) first game in charge. They were holding on a bit at the end but in the first 45 they were outstanding. I didn't think it was fair for Nigel Adkins to get sacked but fair play to the Southampton fans who got behind the team from the start. They'll go to Old Trafford and have a go and I think they'll score a goal but with Robin van Persie back Man Utd will have too much for them. But it's so tight down the bottom it could come down to goal difference, so Southampton will hope they don't get ripped to shreds.

Pr!ck.

if they score early...it will be a walk in the park for them

if we dont concede 5 we would have done well IMO

I swear I could tell this post was you without even looking at the poster (or the avatar). Same f**king crap in every game's build up thread since the start of the season. "Lucky if we don't get thrashed", "We will lose", "Can't see us getting anything", "Another defeat", "We are woeful", etc.

Give it a f**king rest will you. The kind of defeatist attitude you display is disgusting and not in the least bit befitting of a Saint. Go and support Pompey if you want to be negative but this constant bringing down of our team and playing down our prospects for the next game p!sses me off, and you can be bloody certain I'm not the only one. The fact that you often are the starter of these build up threads to open up with a "woe is us" statement and spread your negativity around the forum shows you deliberately want to bring us down and wipe away all confidence and excitement we have for the upcoming fixture. Why do you insist on making us all miserable? It's about f**king time you gave it a rest.

So please do us all a favour and don't post on these threads in the future. Blimey you're worse than Dalek and Alpine combined.

Why get so wound up? Is what he's posted all that wrong? We all hope to nick something up there, most expect to get beaten though, that's not really unusual for Man Utd away is it?

I'm no history buff and I'm not even buff, but according to the link below it was Jan 16th 1988

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/southampton-manchester-united-preview-182625985--sow.html

I was married in Jan 88 so that must have been a belated wedding present for me. It was my 25th anniversary a couple of weeks ago and going up tomorrow with the nippers (22 and 23 now ye gods), missus will have to cook her own tea. Win tomorrow, what a lovely 25th anniversary present for Saints and for me, if Carling did wedding anniversaries .... .

considering puncheon didnt start or even get a second on the pitch...that is quite an achievement....;)

  • 12 Gazzaniga
  • 02 Clyne (Reeves - 81' )
  • 03 Yoshida
  • 06 Fonte
  • 22 Richardson
  • 08 S Davis
  • 10 Ramirez
  • 16 Ward-Prowse
  • 20 Lallana (Chaplow - 90' )
  • 07 Lambert
  • 09 Rodriguez (Mayuka - 81' )

Oh. Fair enough. I'm going mad I'm sure I wasn't that drunk!!

Rodriguez Ramirez and lambert definitely played as a 3 up top anyway, maybe Lallana played just in front of the midfield two however I remember him playing left.

At some stage in the first half we switched to a 4-4-2 with JWP playing right midfield! I don't remember us being that gung-ho that day but it was back when our defence was appalling so it didn't take too much effort from Everton to score 3.

More like 4-2-4 for a lot of it, our most 'wide open' display of the season?

We had J Rod RW, RL high, Ramirez up near him, and AL on LM/LW, add in Richardson, Fox, JWP, Davis and Gazzinga (no MS or Cork or Punch or Shaw or Clyne) and 1-3 was probably one of our best results of the season!

It's clear to see how far we've come since then.....

J-Rod and Lambert were almost playing as 2 wide strikers that day (I'm assuming we did this to combat their full backs) and Ramirez was in behind then pretty much playing as a CF. it was a shambles and our defence was a mess. Like mentioned....without Clyne/Shaw/Morgan/Cork/Punch, we struggled and rightly so.

If we started any game at this level with Davis and JWP as CM's then we'd lose to anyone.

Can see Forren starting, not after what MP said in the press conference.

Ferguson spoke to Adkins the day before he was sacked apparently to talk about Adkins' situation...Adkins definitely knew he was on his way out on the Thursday then.

"Regarding Adkins, the United boss added: "I spoke to him the day before he was sacked. He phoned me about his situation there. I mean I can't understand these things. I think their form had picked up. Was it two defeats in 12 games? That's not bad for a team at the bottom of the league."

Lets get this quite accurate here - The way to beat Utd is to play De Ridder - Did I get that right? ......................That's given me quite a laugh on a dreary day - Thank you for that anyway.......I think Potties job is quite safe for the time being............

Perhaps they'll all fall about laughing and we can stick them for 3 or 4 goals whilst they're doing that.

So is Ferguson saying that Adkins knew he was going to be sacked the day before it broke in the media? Paints a different picture to the one some of the media were portraying.
